四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、Dear Dad,

Today I was at the shopping centre and I spent a lot of time reading the Father's Day cards. But as I chose and read, it seemed that not a single card said what I really wanted to say to you.

You'll soon be 84 years old, Dad, and you and I will have had 56 Father's Days together. I didn't think that you were too old. But the sad thing happened last week. I watched as you turned at the corner in your car. I didn't realize at once that it was you because the man who was driving looked so elderly.

Fifty years ago this spring, we planted carrots together in a garden in Charles City, Iowa. This week, we'll plant carrots together again, perhaps for the last time but I hope not. I don't understand why planting carrots with you is so important to me. Well, I don't quite know how to tell you this, dad. I don't like carrots…but I like planting them with you.

I guess what I am trying to say is exactly what every son and daughter wants to say to their dad today. Praising(赞扬) a father on Father's Day is not just about a dad who brings home money or shares a dinner. It's also about a dad who deeply loves children. He knows everything about his children and won't listen to anyone. It's about love that can't be expressed(表达) in words, and I wish that it would never end.

    Love,

    Jenny

    1Where did Jenny go today?

    A.A garden. B.A shopping center. C.A cinema. D.A hospital.

    2How old is Jenny now?

    A.84. B.56. C.50. D.34.

3What does the underlined words “the man” in Paragraph (段落) 2 refer to()?

A.An old man. B.A car driver.

    C.Jenny's father. D.Jenny's husband.

4What can we learn from Paragraph 3?

A.It's the last time for Jenny to plant carrots with her father.

B.Jenny and her father plant carrots together every year.

C.Both Jenny and her father like eating carrots.

D.Jenny would like to stay with her father.

5What does Jenny talk about in the last paragraph?

A.Deep love for Dad. B.Best wishes for Dad.

C.The importance of Dad. D.The beginning of Father's Day.

  • 25、   Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi for a living. One night, I went to pick up a passenger at 2:30a.m. When I arrived to collect my passenger, I saw a small woman in her eighties standing before me. I took her suitcase to the car and then returned to help the woman. She took my arm and we talked slowly toward the car.

She kept thanking me for my kindness. “It’s nothing,” I told her. “I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother treated.”

“Oh, you’ re such a good man,” she said. When we got into the taxi, she gave me an address, and then asked, “Could you drive me throughout the downtown?”

“It’s not the shortest way,” I answered quickly.

“Oh, I’m in no hurry,” she said, “I’m on my way to hospice. I don’t have any family left. The doctor says I don’t have very long time.” I quietly shut off the meter(计价器). For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked, and the neighborhood where she had lived. Sometimes she asked me to slow down in front of a special building and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.

As the day broke, she suddenly said, “I’m tired. Let’s go now.”

We drove in silence to the address she had given me.

“How much shall I give you?” she asked.

    “Nothing,” I said.

“You have to make a living,” she answered. “Oh, there are other passengers,” I answered.

Almost without thinking, I bent down and gave her a hug. She held onto me tightly and said, “You gave an o ld woman a little moment of happiness.”

C.Because she wanted to find an excuse to ask sympathy from the writer.

D.Because she couldn’t live long and wanted to see the city with the last look.

3Which is Not true according to the passage?

A.It took them about 2 hours to drive through the city.

B.The writer made a living by driving a taxi.

A.He wanted to help her. B.He shut off the meter by mistake.

C.Others had paid for her. D.He was in a hurry to take other passengers.

5What can we learn from the story?

A.Giving will always be rewarded. B.People should respect each other.

C.An act of kindness can bring people pleasure. D.We should help the old.

  • 26、   Every morning my father buys a newspaper on his way to work. Every evening my mother looks through magazines at home. And every night, I look at the posters with photos of Lee MinHo on my bedroom wall before I go to sleep. Can we imagine life without paper or print?

Paper was first created about 2,000 years ago, and has been made from silk, cotton, bamboo, and since the 19th century from wood. People leaned to write words on paper to make a book. But in those days, books could only be produced one at a time by hand, As a result, they were expensive and rare (稀有的), And because there weren't many books, few people learned to read.

Then printing was invented in China. When printing was developed greatly at the beginning of the 11th century, books could be produced more quickly and cheaply. As a result, more people learned to read. After that, knowledge and ideas spread quickly.

Today information can be received online, downloaded from the Internet rather than found in books, and information can be kept on CDROMs or machines such as MP3 players.

Computers are already used in classrooms, and newspapers and magazines can already be read online. So will books be replaced(替代) by computers one day? No, I don't think the Lee MinHo poster on my bedroom wall will ever be replaced by a computer two meters high!

A.He reads books. B.He reads newspaper.

C.He looks through magazines. D.He looks at the posters on the wall.

A.People could not read. B.People could not write words on paper.

C.People could not find silk, cotton or bamboo. D.People could only produce books one at a time by hand.

4What happened after books became a cheaper?

A.People didn’t want to buy books. B.Printing was invented in China.

C.Knowledge and ideas spread quickly. D.The Internet was introduced to people soon.

5What is the writer’s opinion about books and computers?

A.People won’t need books any more. B.Books won’t be replaced by computers.

C.People prefer to find information in books. D.Computers have already replaced books.
