Noreen handed the stone to her husband, who took it to the park's Diamond Discovery Center to verify the identity. After examining the stone, park staff informed Michael that Noreen had found a large yellow diamond.

“When I first saw this diamond under a microscope, I thought, ‘Wow, what a beautiful shape and color!’” Park director Caleb Howell said. “Mrs. Wredberg's diamond weighs more than 4 carats, almost the size of a jelly bean, in the shape of a pear and the yellow color of lemonade.”

Park staff said the weather conditions were perfect for the Wredbergs because the rain can clear off dirt and it is easy to spot the diamond.
