四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、

A forest fire in south western China was under control. The fire killed 31 people. Among the victims, 27 were firefighters and four were local people.

The fire broke out on the evening of March 30 in Muli County(县), in the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture Sichuan. It began at a remote place in the tree—covered mountains at an altitude of about 3, 800 meters. The fire burned across 20 hectares as bad terrain(地形)—including the thick forest and limited water-stopped people from putting out the fire.

Following the fire in Sichuan, China issued a red alert, which is the highest level, for forest fire risks in dry northern and southwestern places. This was the first time since March 2016 that the country had issued a red alert for forest fires.

Forest fires, also called wildfires, are a worldwide problem. Wildfires are uncontrolled and can be caused by different types of weather, dry brush and wind. They burn land by the hectares and can take over everything along the way in just a few minutes.

Wildfires are either started accidentally by humans—such as a burning cigarette—or by natural causes like lightning. But these events don’t have a main effect on the scale(规模)of the fire. The warm climate from increasing greenhouse gas emissions(排放)is increasing. Studies show that over the past many years, the umber of wildfires has increased.

1How many firefighters died in the fire in Liangshan?

    A.31 B.27 C.3 D.1500

2Why is it difficult for people to put out the fire in Liangshan ?

A.Because the fire broke out at a remote place covered with grass.

B.Because there weren’t enough firefighters to put out the fire.

C.Because the forest was thick and water was limited.

D.Because the fire was caused by dry brush and wind.

3What mainly affects the scale of the fire according to the passage?

    A.Burning cigarette. B.Lightning.

C.The warm climate from greenhouse gas emissions. D.The number of wildfires.

4Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?

A.It took 31 people three days to put out the fire in Liangshan.

B.China issued a red alert to the highest level for forest fire riskd for the first time since 2016.

C.The wildfires can’t be controlled and can be caused by weather, dry brush and wind.

D.Greenhouse gas emissions increased the number of wildfires.

  • 25、“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” This is an old English saying. It means that when we go to bed early, we can get up early the next morning. Then we will become healthy. We will also become rich and clever.

This is true. To keep healthy, we must have enough sleep. Experts (专家) say that adults should get seven to eight hours of sleep a night. Teenagers need nine to ten hours. And school-aged children may need more than ten hours of sleep. Children who do not have enough sleep can’t do their work very well. They won’t be wise and they may not become wealthy!

We also need exercise. Walking, running, swimming and playing games are all exercise. Exercise keeps us strong. It also helps the blood to move around the body. This is very important. Our blood takes the nutrition (营养) from food to all parts of our body.

The head also needs blood. So exercise that moves the blood to our head helps us think better!

    B.have more time

    C.be healthy

    D.have more work to do

【2】Who needs most hours of sleep to keep healthy?

    A.Teenagers.

    A.can’t study well

    B.will be wise

    D.will be active in class

  • 26、Between eight and nine o’clock in the morning, a dark leaden-colored mass is creeping over the sky towards the sun. Red zigzags(之字形) of lightning gleam here and there across it. There is a sound of far-away rumbling. A warm wind frolics(嬉闹) over the grass, bends the trees, and stirs up the dust. In a minute there will be a spurt of May rain and a real storm will begin.

Fyokla, a little beggar-girl of six, with eyes wide-open and lips trembling, is running through the village, looking for Terenty. At last she finds Terenty in the vegetable garden: a tall old man with a thin face, long legs and bare feet.

“Uncle Terenty!” the beggar girl addresses him with a sob(抽泣),” Brother Danilka has had an accident! Come along!”

    “What sort of accident, darling?

“In the woods Danilka sucks his hand into a hole in a tree and he can’t get it out. Come along. Uncle, do be kind and pull his hand out!”

    “How come? What for?”

“He wanted to get a cuckoo’s egg out of the hole for me.”

“The day has hardly begun and already you are in trouble” Terenty shook his head. “Well, what am I to do with you now? 1 must come. I must, may the wolf gobble you up, you naughty children! Come, old girl!”

Terenty comes out of the garden and, lifting high his long legs, begins striding (大步走) down the village street. He walks quickly without stopping or looking from side to side, as though he were shoved(推搡) from behind. Fyokla can hardly keep up with him.

The clouds have by now covered the sun, and soon afterwards there is not a speck of blue left in the sky. It grows dark. The first raindrops, big and heavy, leave dark dots on the dusty road. A big drop falls on Fyokla’s cheek and glides like a tear down her chin.

“The rain has begun,” mutters(嘟哝) Terenty, kicking up the dust with his bare, bony feet. “But that’s fine, Fyokla, old girl. The grass and the trees are fed by the rain, as we are by bread.”

As soon as the rain begins, the wind drops. The only sound is the patter(噼啪声) of the dropping rain. It runs down their necks and they soon get soaking wet. Their feet are covered with lumps of heavy, wet clay. It is slippery and difficult to walk, but Terenty strides on more and more rapidly. The weak little beggar-girl is breathless and ready to drop.

At last, they arrive at the woods, where they see Danilka, a little red-haired fellow of eight, leaning against a tree with one hand hidden in an old lime tree. The wood had broken at the edge of the hole and jammed Danilka’s hand. Terenty snaps off the broken piece, and the boy s hand, red but complete, is freed, much to Terenty’s relief.

As they come out of the woods, the thunder gradually fades away, and its rumbling is heard far away beyond the village. A bright patch of blue appears in the sky.

【1】Which of the following is NOT used to describe a coming storm in Paragraph 1?

    A.The color of the sky.

    B.The shape of lightning.

    C.The sound of thunder.

    D.The smell of the wind.

When Amy _______ came home two and a half months later, she had lost both of her legs below the knee.

Soon Amy got her first pair of artificial (假的) legs. They were so painful and ugly. Amy wondered how she would ever be _______ again.
