四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)

    Kathy: an animal doctor

What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened in your job?

Probably the dog that bit me. It wasn’t a big one—I’m not afraid of the big ones. The small ones are the worst. It gave me a very nasty(凶狠的)bite.

Have you ever done any other jobs?

Yes, I did many kinds of jobs when I was a student. One summer I did fruit-picking in Spain.

What’s the worst job you’ve ever done?

In order to improve my English, I worked for a rich family in New York. I never had a day off and I had to do everything—cooking, cleaning, shopping—and look after their bad children. I left after two weeks and managed to get a job as a waitress in an Italian restaurant.

    Peter: an actor

What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened in your job?

So many bad things have happened—but I think my worst moment was when I read my first bad review in the newspaper. They wrote terrible things about me, and I was so angry. After that I didn’t read my reviews any more.

Have you ever done any other jobs?

Oh yes, it’s hard to make a living as an actor. So I’ve done lots of part-time jobs over the years. For example, I’ve worked in a shop, sold ice cream at the beach.

What’s the worst job you’ve ever done?

The worst job I’ve ever done was at an egg-packing factory. Working conditions are terrible—you stand for hours at the end of a belt(传送带), putting eggs into boxes. You can’t have a break, and if you want to go to the toilet, you have to ask for permission. And worst of all, the smell was terrible—I’ve never eaten an egg since then.

【1】Kathy has done the following jobs EXCEPT ________.

    A.picking fruit in Spain

    B.working for a rich family

    C.looking after sick animals

    D.cooking in an Italian restaurant

【2】What did Peter hate most when working at an egg-packing factory?

    A.No breaks.

    B.Standing for too long.

    C.The bad smell.

    D.Putting eggs into boxes.

    A.An Animal Doctor

    B.Terrible Job Experiences

    C.How to Find a Part-time Job

    D.Reviews of Kathy and Peter.

Being a fit and healthy person is very important for lots of people today. In fact, some people like running and exercising so much that they become obsessed with keeping track of it.

Thanks to fitness apps and gadgets (小玩意), people can measure every step they take, what they eat and every calorie (热量) they burn. They might wear a special watch on their wrist, shoes on their feet or use different apps on their phone to measure their movements. Importantly, once they have done that they post it on social media. All of their friends can see where they've run, what workout they've done or what they had for lunch.

Doctor Daniel Kraft from the United States makes gadgets for people like this. He told the Digital Health Summit that these people, known as "trackaholics" (追踪狂), would become the norm (常态) in the future.

And I think he's right. I can see the world of health and fitness changing around me every day. One of my friends, named Anna Palmer, is always using the latest fitness gadgets. Her favorite is an app called Argus. She uses it on her phone to measure her steps, heart rate (心率) and amount of calories she has burnt. She always posts these things, and pictures of herself exercising, on social media. "It's nice to know how much exercise you have done, rather than guess," she said. "That way I can keep pushing myself to improve." Also, my friends in China use WeChat (微信) to compare how many steps they've taken each day. They are very competitive about this!

However, companies can use the personal information they collect for marketing or telecommunication fraud(电信诈骗). Researchers did a survey of 5,458 people on personal information leak(泄露) in 2021.
