四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、If you imagine the top of Qomolangma, you might think of a quite, snowy place far away the noisy world. But a surprising photo, taken by mountaineer Nirmal Purja, shows in face it was much crowed. Mr. Purja’s photo has shocked the world—along with the tragic(悲剧性的)news that seven climbers died when climbing Qomolangma in the past week.

“Normally, it’s crowded,” says one local guide, and he added that in order to reach the top, climbers sometimes will have to wait in a line between 20 minutes and 1.5 hours. “If the weather is good for a whole week, then the top isn’t crowed,” he continues, “but when there’s only two or three days that are safe to climb, the top gets very crowded.

Getting crowded means danger. First of all is the danger of falling, “there can be two lines of people—one going up, and one going down the top,” he says, “Everyone’s life depends on this one rope.” Another danger is when you have to wait in line, it is possible that you will run out of oxygen so you can’t breathe or won’t have enough oxygen when you go down the mountain.

Professional climbers say that crowds on Qomolangma have increased in recent years mainly because expeditions(探险)have become more popular. Andrea Ursina Zimmerman, an expdition guide who reached the top of Qomolangma in 2016, says that many “traffic jams” are caused by climbers who are not well prepared or do not have the physical condition for the journey. This not only puts those climbers’ own lives in danger, but the lives of the guides taking them up the mountain. However, it is on May 25th, 1960 that the first 8 Chinese climbers reached the top, which became the pride of our great mother country, China.

  • 26、Punishments you set should be reasonable, without violence or threat (暴力或威胁). For example, if you find your son smoking, you may limit his social activities for two weeks. You should punish your kids only in ways you have discussed before the rule is broken. A study shows that the most popular punishment is to limit kids’ TV time.

It’s understandable that you’ll be angry when rules are broken. Punishment is a way to express your anger, but it’s not a very good one. Sharing your feelings of anger, disappointment or sadness with your kids can have a better effect (效果) on them. Try to do that. When your kids know what they have done has made you sad, they will feel guilty. When they know their actions influence you greatly, they will obey rules better.

Rules are made to help your kids behave better. If your rules or ways of punishment make them unhappy or under a lot of pressure, are they helpful?

【1】Which of the following is the most popular way to punish kids?

    A.Beating them.

    B.Telling them empty threats.

    C.Limiting their TV time.

D.Using punishments which are not mentioned in rules.

【2】In the writer’s opinion, which is thought to be the best way to express anger to kids?

    A.Punishing them

    B.Keeping silent.

C.Asking them to do some housework.

D.Telling them how disappointed you are.

【3】The underlined word “guilty” in the passage means “________” in Chinese.

    A.激动的

    B.无聊的

    C.刺激的

    D.内疚的

【4】Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A.Punishment is the best way to educate kids.

B.Breaking rules is common, so we don’t need to pay too much attention to it.

C.Parents set ways of punishment in order to make kids know the price for breaking rulers.

D.More pressure should be given 10 kids.

    【5】The passage mainly tells ________.

    A.how to make rules useful

B.why to make rules in a family

    C.why to punish kids

    D.how to educate kids

  • 27、Thirty years ago, Lake Ponkapog in Hartwell, New Jersey, was full of life. Many birds and animals lived beside the water, which was full of fish. Now there are few birds, animals, and fish.

The lake water is polluted (污染的). It is in a color of dirty brown, and it is filled with strange plants.

How does this happen? First we must think about how water gets into Lake Ponkapog. When it rains, water comes into the lake from all around. In the past there were forests all around Lake Ponkapog so the rain water was clean.

Now there are many homes around the lake. People often use chemicals (化学品) in their gardens. They use other chemicals inside their houses for cleaning or killing insects (昆虫). There are also many businesses. Businesses use chemicals in their machines or shops. Other chemicals fall onto the ground from cars or trucks. When it rains, the rain water picks up all the chemicals from homes and businesses and then carries them into the lake. They pollute the water and kill the animals.

Boats on the lake are also a problem. Lake Ponkapog is a popular place for motorboats. But oil and gas (油和汽)  from boats often get into the lake. So more bad chemicals go into the water this way.

People in Hartwell are worried. They love their lake and want to save it. Will it be possible? A clean lake must have clean rainwater going into it. Clean rainwater is possible only if people are more careful about chemicals at home and at work. They must also be more careful about gas and oil and other chemicals on the ground. And they mustn't use motorboats any more on the lake. All these may change people's lives. Only then can Lake Ponkapog be a beautiful, clean lake again.

1In the past, the water in Lake Ponkapog was made clean by ______.

    A. forests   B. rain   C. birds   D. fish

2Chemicals from homes and businesses ______.

    A. are always clean

    B. can help the animals

    C. are good for the lake

    D. get into the rainwater

    3Cleaner rainwater will mean ______.

    A. more boats on the lake

    B. more dirty things in the lake

    C. a cleaner lake

    D. a dirtier lake

4To save Lake Ponkapog, people need to ______.

    A. be more careful about chemicals

    B. use less water

    C. grow fewer plants in the gardens

    D. use more motorboats on the lake

    5The passage is about ______.

    A. boats on Lake Ponkapog

    B. why the water is dirty in Lake Ponkapog

    C. clean rainwater

    D. dirty lakes
