He really wanted to have them for his birthday.
He sadly walked away(走开) and thought how to tell his mother about it. He knew she would give him anything he liked if she could. But he also knew very well she had little money. He decided not to go home at once(立刻), as he looked worried and his mother would notice(注意) it. So he went to the park and sat on the grass. Then he saw a boy in a wheel chair(轮椅). 25、After my memoir (自传) Becoming came out, I heard something similar from strangers, friends and family. They said, “I just can’t believe you remembered that much.” In fact, when I think back to the days of writing my memoir, what I remember most is the feeling of trying hard to find back the old memories. What was her name? Did I make that decision before or after that talk with Barack?
I’d only kept a diary for a short period of my life, for a few years during my late twenties as I was getting more serious with Barack and thinking about a new job. It was a time filled with change, and I found writing down my thoughts helped me go through all the changes. Then I put it away and didn’t pick it up again until I began writing my memoir.
The experience left me asking myself, “Why didn’t I continue keeping a diary?” The answer, like for so many of you, I’m sure, was that I simply had a hectic life. I changed jobs. I got married. I had children.
Looking back, I wish I’d taken more time to write down what I was thinking and feeling. This isn’t an exercise to suger-coat your experiences, or write down something different from what you actually feel. You don’t have to keep a diary every day. And you certainly don’t have to feel like you have something important to say. One of my favourite pages was about a night at a restaurant where an old man added a perfect song to a jukebox (投币式点唱机).
The beauty of life is that an experience you have today might feel totally different after a few months, or years. We don’t have to remember everything. But everything we remember has value.

26、A well-known poem by Tang dynasty poet Du Mu tells of a sad scene in early April: “Rains fall heavily as Qingming comes, and passers-by with lowered spirits go.”
This scene takes place on Tomb Sweeping Day, also known as Qingming Festival. Tomb Sweeping Day is a traditional Chinese festival. It began in the Zhou dynasty, over 2500 years ago. Tomb Sweeping Day gives us a chance to show respect to our ancestors and family members who have passed away and show that we miss them. This tradition shows that family values are an important part of Chinese culture.
