Imagine a dog you don’t need to train. Instead, you can program it to do whatever you want. Now, you don’t need to imagine it Meet Spot, a dog-like robot from US company Boston Dynamics.
In March, the Archaeological Park of Pompeii (庞贝考古公园) in Italy gave Spot a new job. Pompeii is a famous “time capsule (胶囊)” from the ancient world. Thousands of years ago, a nearby volcano (火山) covered the city in ash (灰). May people died, but the ash kept buildings safe until someone found it in 1748. So, what is Spot doing in Pompeii? It walks around the site with a 3D scanner (扫描仪). There are many narrow, underground tunnels (隧道) in Pompei. Thieves used the tunnels to steal things. The tunnels bring safety problems to the ancient buildings. Robot dogs are small enough to go through these tunnles and find any changes to the buildings.
According to Gabriel Zuchtriegel, the new director of the site, this is the first time anyone has used a robot to help protect an archaeological site. “It’s a break trough and it would allow us to protect the ruins (遗迹) with greater seed and in total safety,” said Zuchtriegel.
Spot will also work with a 3D-scanning drone (无人机). The two tools will check the site regularly. They will look for any damage that may need a repair. As at magazine ART news said, Pompeii is turning into a “Smart Archaeological Park”.

A.Protecting the park from damage is difficult.

22、There is a lot to see under the sea, but you need to remember that light behaves differently in water than in air. The objects (物体) appear closer to you than they exactly are. You might find yourself reaching out to touch something and completely missing it.
Objects under water will appear larger than they would on the surface, too. Be careful not to tell any stories about the big fish that got away. That fish might not be so big after all! It’s just because sometimes things can seem to be as much as about 33 percent bigger in water.
What’s more, in deeper water, colors just don’t seem as bright. In fact, it looks as if some colors are missing. Remember the color of an object results from the wavelengths (波长) of light that are reflected (反射) from its surface. And light is taken in as it moves down through the water.
Swimmers wear wet suits to keep warm underwater. Let’s take a bright red, yellow, and blue wet suit as an example. These colors are hard to miss on the surface of water. Watch carefully the changes in color as you descend in the water. The red part now looks almost black because the red light wavelengths, the longest among these three colors, are missing. As you go down deeper, the same thing will happen to the yellow part. Even at a place of about 6 to 9 meters underwater, you look terrible, like a ghost! And you have to wait for your return to the surface to enjoy the bright colors again.
【1】You miss the object underwater when you want to touch it because ________.
A.you are not quick enough
B.you can not see clearly
C.it is not as close as it seems
D.it disappears quickly
【2】The underlined word descend probably means ________ in Chinese in this passage.
A.上升
B.下潜
C.屏息
D.漂淨
【3】The example of the wet suit is used to explain the change of ________ of an object underwater.
A.the shape
B.the size
C.the weight
D.the color
【4】Which of the following is true?
A.The wavelengths of red light are longer than those of blue light.
B.A three-meter-long fish looks six meters long underwater.
C.You will become a ghost at a place of 8 meters underwater.
D.Wearing wet suits helps swimmers to keep away from objects underwater.
【5】The best title of this passage is ________.
A.The Direction of Light Underwater
B.The Behavior of Light Underwater
C.The Beauty of Color Underwater
D.The Brightness of Color Underwater

The watch was a gift from his wife when their first child was born. Joe treasured the watch very much. He was very upset about losing it.
Once his grandchildren came, they promised him they would find the watch.
One granddaughter asked: “Grandpa, do you remember when you saw the watch last before it went missing?”
“I guess when I was cleaning the barn (谷仓)!”Joe replied.
The children looked for more than two hours with Joe, but they could not find it. The kids were now also sad, but they tried to comfort their grandfather.
One grandson went back to the barn to search again. Joe asked why he was going there a second time. But the little boy just asked the others not to follow him and to remain silent.
He was there for about fifteen minutes and then rushed to his grandfather. He found the watch and happily gave it to Joe.
Joe was surprised and asked how he was able to find it. The little boy replied: “I sat there without making a noise, and the barn was so silent. After a few minutes, I heard the tick, tick sound and found the watch.”
