Because of his traditional professional training, Ruiz believed training made up copying of masterworks and drawing the human form from live models.

When Picasso died at age 91 in April 1973, he had become one of the most famous and successful artists in history. My life was like a river that never stops, with all kinds of rehabilitation exercises and doctor visits. There was so much I couldn’t do, like playing at the nearby playground when my dad and brother visited. And it was hard to make friends. As my body healed, things began to improve.
Recently, I’ve made big progress, like being able to stand for five minutes. I feel hopeful again and am dreaming big — I want to be a role model (榜样) for disabled kids to follow. I also joined in the Just Say Hi, an activity to encourage everyone not to be afraid to say hello to disabled people.
