四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Heavy snow arrived in Hefei, Anhui, at the beginning of January. Although people found the snow beautiful at first, it quickly started making problems for them.

After a whole night and day of heavy snow, the city was covered in white. The thick snow covered everything. At first, people enjoyed looking out of their windows at the beautiful snow-covering city and parks. But safety soon became a problem and troubles came.

The snow made the roads very difficult to walk on, making it dangerous for people to drive. To fix this, the local government asked workers to clear the snow off the roads overnight. Thanks to their hard work, traffic was able to goback to normal.

The snow also brought some problems to the city's trees. The snow that fell on the trees' branches (树枝) got heavier as it continued to fall, causing some of the trees to break and fall down near roads. People were asked to go outside and shake the snow off the trees to protect them. My family and even myschool's headmaster went out and helped to shake the snow offthe trees.

But for me there was some good news, too. We didn't have to go to school because our roads to school might be too dangerous. I went outside to enjoy the beautiful snow and take pictures.

Although the heavy snow caused many problems, we still enjoyed it quite a bit.

1When probably did it snow heavily in Hefei, Anhui according to the passage?

    A.About December 27th. B.About January 5th.

    C.About January 13rd. D.About January 26th.

2What does the underlined word " this" refer to?

B.It's dangerous for people to drive on the road.

C.It's exciting for people to walk on the road.

D.It's relaxing for people to drive on the road.

3What is not mentioned in the passage?

A.The policeman helped the old cross the road.

B.Workers cleared the snow off the roads overnight.

C.People shook the snow off the trees to protect them.

D.The students didn't need to go to school.

4What can we infer from the passage?

A.The heavy snow only brought troubles to people.

B.People don't think snow is beautiful all the time.

C.The heavy snow did no harm to the trees in the city.

D.Maybe the writer thinks the snow is not a bad thing.

  • 25、A group of frogs (青蛙) were travelling through the bush when two of them fell into a deep hole. The other frogs tried to help them. When they saw how deep the hole was, they told the two frogs that they could not be saved and that they were almost dead. The two frogs didn’t listen to their words and tried their best to jump out of the hole. But the other frogs kept telling them to stop. Finally, one of the frogs listened to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died.

The other frog, however, continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs shouted at him to give up and wait for death. He jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the other frogs asked, “Didn’t you hear us?” The frog explained that he had poor hearing. He thought they were encouraging him the whole time.

Words have the power of life and death. An encouraging word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it through their difficulties. A destructive (破坏性的) word to someone who is down can befatal. So always be careful of what you say.

  • 26、Christmas Eve means a warm get-together with friends, a candlelight dinner, or perhaps a celebration at a pub(酒馆)for students. But, for Cai Yingjie, the night has a different meaning: helping beggars(乞丐) and the homeless(people without homes).

Cai, who is a student in journalism at Tsinghua, could be found at Beijing’s Wudaokou Light Railway Station that special evening. When she saw an old beggar, she took the cold, rough hands of the woman with her warm, clean hands, and gave the woman some warm bread and helped her put on a pair of new gloves(手套).

Cai was one of 14 Tsinghua students spending Christmas Eve among the poor. They walked in the cold wind along the streets from 4 to 7 pm on Friday, visiting 15 beggars in Beijing’s Haidian District.

They brought bread and gloves with them, and stopped to greet beggars and offer them some of the warm food. Each beggar greeted them with a look of surprise.
