24、Daniel Scali, an Australian man with CRPS(复杂性局部疼痛综合征), has broken the world record for the long time in the abdominal plank position(平板支撑)(male) with a time of nine hours 30 minutes and one second, according to the Guinness World Records.
Scali set the record on August 6, 2021, in Adelaide, Australia. His time beat the previous record of eight hours 15 minutes and 15 seconds, which was set in February of last year by George Hood, who was 62 years old at the time.
“When I was 12 years old, I fell off my trampoline(蹦床)causing a serious break in my left arm. As a result, I live with a condition called CRPS, ” he explained to Guinness.

25、If you watch the sky for about an hour after the sun goes down, you may see some “moving stars”. But they’re not really stars. They’re man-made satellites. And the biggest of all is the International Space Station(ISS). From May to July is the best season to watch the ISS flying over the earth. And people can see it with their eyes.
The ISS is the biggest satellite(人造卫星)and scientists want to live on it. They think that the best way to learn more about space is to live there.

Laboratories, living rooms and power stations are being built. The ISS is the most expensive space program. Billions of dollars are being spent on it every year.
Scientists hope that the ISS will be a stepping stone for future space exploration(探测). “The ISS will help us understand the human body better, explore space and study the earth. It can help us make life on the earth better,” said Kathryn Clark, an ISS scientist.
Sixteen countries are part of the program: the US, Russia, Canada, Japan, Brazil and 11 European countries. China isn’t an ISS country, but it has helped with some of the experiments. In 2003, China sent some rice up to the ISS to find out what space would do to it.

26、One afternoon I toured an art museum while waiting for my husband to finish a business meeting. I was looking forward to a quiet view of the art works.
A young couple viewing the paintings ahead of me chatted nonstop between themselves. I watched them a moment and decided the wife was doing all the talk. I admired the husband’s patience for putting up with her continuous talk. Distracted by their noise, I moved on.
I met with them several times as I moved through the different rooms of art. Each time I heard her constant burst of words, I moved away quickly.
I was standing at the counter of the museum gift shop making a purchase when the couple came near to the exit. Before they left, the man reached into his pocket and pulled out a white object. He extended it into a long stick and then tapped his way into the coatroom to get his wife’s jacket.
“He’s a brave man.” The clerk at the counter said, “Most of us would give up if we were blinded at such a young age. During his recovery he made a promise that his life wouldn’t change. So, as before, he and his wife come in whenever there’s a new art show.”
“But what does he get out of the art?” I asked, “He can’t see.”
“Can’t see? You’re wrong. He sees a lot. More than you or I do.” The clerk said, “His wife describes each painting so he can see it in his head.”
I learned something about patience, courage and love that day. I saw the patience of a young wife describing paintings to a person without sight and the courage of a husband who would not allow blindness to change his life. And I saw the love shared by two people as I watched this couple walk away hand in hand.

27、Walking certainly isn’t the safe activity it was when many of us were school children. There are the normal safety risks such as speeding vehicles and errant(错误的, 不定的) bicycles. Here are a few tips for dads of children who are early morning and late afternoon pedestrians.
Know the routes (路线) your children take. Develop a safe walking route to school and insist that your children follow it. Avoid having them cross busy streets except where there is a signal or a crossing guard. If your child does not make it to school or home and if you have a standard route, it will be easier to track them down.
Have your children walk with others. This may seem a simple rule, but it is one that is often disregarded. A boy or a girl alone is a much easier target for a predator(掠夺者). Make sure the children walk in a group. And besides, it is a lot more fun for them.
Follow generally smart pedestrian rules. Remind them to use sidewalks where possible. If there are no sidewalks, walk on the side of the road as far to the right as possible.
