21、Want a glance of the future of health care? Take a look at the way the various networks of people about patient care are being connected to one another, and how this new connectivity is being exploited to deliver medicine to the patient — no matter where he or she may be.
Online doctors offering advice based on normal symptoms(症状) are the most obvious example. Increasingly, however, remote diagnosis(远程诊断) will be based on real physiological data(生理数据) from the actual patient. A group from the University of Kentucky has shown that by using personal data assistance plus a mobile phone, it is perfectly practical to send a patient’s important signs over the telephone. With this kind of equipment, the cry asking whether there was a doctor in the house could well be a thing of the past.
Other medical technology groups are working on applying telemedicine to rural (countryside) care. And at least one team wants to use telemedicine as a tool for disaster need — especially after earthquakes. On the whole, the trend is towards providing global access to medical data and experts’opinions.
But there is one problem. Bandwidth(宽带) is the limiting factor for sending complex (复杂) medical pictures around the world, —CT photos being one of the biggest bandwidth users. Communication satellites may be able to deal with the short-term needs during disasters such as earthquakes or wars. But medicine is looking towards both the second-generation Internet and third generation mobile phones for the future of remote medical service.
Doctors have met to discuss computer-based tools for medical diagnosis, training and telemedicine. With the falling price of broadband communications, the new technologies should start a new time when telemedicine and the sharing of medical information, experts’ opinions and diagnosis are common.

【3】The“problem”in the fourth paragraph refers to the fact that ________.
A. bandwidth isn’t big enough to send complex medical pictures
B. the second - generation of Internet has not become popular yet

22、My students often tell me they don’t have “enough time” to do all their schoolwork. My reply is often brief –You have as much time as the president. I usually carry on a bit about there being 24 hours per day for everyone, and suggest that “not enough time” is not an acceptable explanation of not getting something done.
Once in graduate school, I tried to justify myself to one of my professors by saying that I was working. His answer to me was, “_________What’s important is the quality of your work.” Since then I have had time to reflect on the “hard worker” dodge(伎俩), and I have come to some conclusions – all relevant to the issue of how much time we have.
If you look at the matter analytically, you can identify two parts of the problem. There is, of course, the matter of “time”, which we can think of as fixed. Then there is the issue of “work” during that time, which can vary in intensity. But, as my professor suggested, it’s not diligence but the quality of the product that is important.
That led me to a new idea, the quality of work. That concept is perhaps best explained by a sign I once saw on the wall in someone’s office – Don’t work harder but work smarter! There’s a lot of sense in that idea.
If you can’t get more time, and few of us can, the only solution is to improve the quality of work. That means thinking of ways of getting more out of the same time than we might otherwise get. That should lead us to an analysis of our work habits. Since “work” for students usually means “homework”, the expression “work habits” should be read as “learning habits”.
Then, as a smart student, you will seek to improve those skills that you use in study, chiefly reading and writing. If you learn to read better and write better, there are big benefits that pay off across the board in all your studies.

23、Flying the friendly skies has been, well, not quite as friendly these days. If you’re looking not just for the best prices, most convenient times and most direct routes, but also for an airline that will treat you right, you’ll want to check these latest rankings.
We got our hands on the 2017 Airline Satisfaction Study, released this month, from J.D.Power North America, a global research firm. Here’s what they discovered about the best airlines.
Alaska Airlines take home the top honor for the 10th time. Flying anywhere and Alaska Airlines is an option? Jump on that deal! Why? For the past decade, they’ve ranked the highest among traditional carriers, with the score of 765 on a 1, 000-- point scale. Delta took home the silver but only with a seven-- point gap from its competitor Alaska Airlines. American Airlines came in for the bronze.
For budget airlines, Southwest is second to none. Since the research was divided into parts, Southwest got an honor of its own in the “low﹣cost carrier” part, defeating Jet Blue Airways by four points. This small margin (差额) is significant, since Southwest officially ends Jet Blue Airways’ winning this category constantly for 11 years.
The full list of the top 10 airlines, either in traditional carriers or the budget ones are below:
Best traditional airlines: • Alaska Airlines • Delta Airlines • American Airlines • United Airlines • Air Canada | Best low-cost airlines: •Southwest Airlines • JetBlue Airways • United Airlines • WestJet • Frontier Airlines |

24、 Some people think that success is only for those with talent or those who grow up in the right family, and others believe that success mostly comes down to luck. I’m not going to say luck, talent, and circumstances don’t come into play because they do. Some people are born into the right family while others are born with great intelligence, and that’s just the reality of how life is.
However, to succeed in life, one first needs to set a goal and then gradually make it more practical. And, in addition to that, in order to get really good at something, one needs to spend at least 10,000 hours studying and practicing. To become great at certain things, it’ll require even more time, time that most people won’t put in.
This is a big reason why many successful people advise you to do something you love. If you don’t enjoy what you do, it is going to feel like unbearable pain and will likely make you quit well before you ever become good at it.
When you see people exhibiting some great skills or having achieved great success, you know that they have put in a huge part of their life to get there at a huge cost. It’s sometimes easy to think they got lucky or they were born with some rare talent, but thinking that way does you no good, and there’s a huge chance that you’re wrong anyway.
Whatever you do, if you want to become great at it, you need to work day in and day out, almost to the point of addiction, and over a long period of time. If you’re not willing to put in the time and work, don’t expect to receive any rewards. Consistent, toil (苦干) won’t guarantee you the level of success you may want, but it will guarantee that you will become really good at whatever it is you put all that work into.
【1】Paragraph 1 mainly talks about ________.
A.the reasons for success B.the meaning of success
C.the standards of success D.the importance of success
【2】Successful people suggest doing what one loves because ________.
A.work makes one feel pain B.one tends to enjoy his work
C.one gives up his work easily D.it takes a lot of time to succeed
【3】What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
A.Successful people like to show their great skills.
B.People need to achieve success at the cost of life.
C.People sometimes succeed without luck or talent.
D.It helps to think that luck or talent leads to success.
【4】What could be the best title for the text?
A.Success ― the child of talent and luck
B.Success ― altitude rather than attitude
C.Time and tide wait for no man
D.Time and toil make for success
