四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   “Which is the right bin for my garbage?” This may be the most-asked question in Shanghai since it started a new garbage-sorting program on July 1, 2019. When learning about the four types of garbage — wet, dry, recyclable and harmful — many people might be confused about how to properly sort it.

To help people figure this out, China’s tech companies are giving a hand. For example, if you want to know which bin your wet wipes (湿巾) should go in, you can just open a mini app (小程序) in WeChat or Alipay and look for “wet wipes”. The app will give you the answer right away. Soon, you might do it in an easier way. Maybe you can just take a photo of the garbage and then be told where it should go.

This kind of technology is called image recognition (图像识别). It uses artificial intelligence (AI, 人工智能). Many companies around the world are making garbage-sorting robots that use this technology. For example, AMP Robotics in the US has made a robot that can sort food and drink packages . By “seeing” pictures on the packaging, the robot   will pick up the trash and put it in the right place.

The future of garbage-sorting looks good. But it’s not the best way. The best thing we can do is to make less garbage in the first place.

Four kinds of garbage in Shanghai

1Why is the question “Which is the right bin for my garbage?” the most asked one in Shanghai?

A.Because Shanghai has the most garbage in China.

    B.Because Shanghai started a new garbage-sorting program in 2019.

C.Because people in Shanghai are fond of asking questions.

D.Because people in Shanghai don’t know about garbage.

2Which of the following is true?

A.Dog waste and paper are wet garbage.

B.Peel and batteries are harmful garbage.

    C.Lamp and plastics are recyclable.

D.Clothes and glass bottles are recyclable.

3If you are confused about how to sort garbage properly, you may ________.

A.Go to China’s high tech companies and ask for help.

B.Take a photo of it and send it to the high-tech company.

C.Open a mini app in WeChat or Alipay and look for answers

D.Buy a robot and ask him to do it for you.

4According to the writer, the best way to deal with the garbage problem is ________.

    A.to make less garbage

B.to sort garbage in a proper way

C.to educate people to know the types of garbage

D.to develop high technology to sort garbage

  • 25、One day while driving from my home to work. I noticed a car in front of me had a wobbly(不稳定的)wheel. It was clear that the wheel had been changed recently and had not been fixed correctly. On a slow road this would not show much of a problem but I knew a highway was coming soon. There the traffic would move much faster and the driver would be in danger as the wheel could come off at that speed.

I was driving a large jeep at the time and the car in front was a small one driven by a young lady on her own. So as I tried to flash(闪)my lights and wave her to pull over,  I was worried that she wouldn’ t pull over on the road side when she found in her mirror a single man chasing(追) her down in a jeep and waving for her to pull over.

Thankfully. she trusted more in the good nature of people and pulled over where I could explain the problem. She said the wheel was changed only the night before and that she would pull into the nearest garage(修车间)where the repairman had tools to fix the wheel correctly.

My belief is that the act of kindness was hers and not mine. How so? Well,  it was she who chose to believe in the possibility that people are good over the belief that bad things would come from being waved over to the side of the road by strangers.

I am glad I was able to wave her down in time and so a serious accident might have been avoided. But I am even happier that she believed in a stranger.

【1】The writer worried about the lady because .

    A. she was driving a second-hand car

    B. a traffic accident might happen to her

    C. a single man was chasing her down

    D. she drove faster than any other car

【2】Why did the lady pull over on the side road ?

    A. Because she found something wrong.

    B. Because she thought the road not safe.

    C. Because the writer shouted at her.

    D. Because the writer gave her some signs.

【3】What would be the best title for the passage?

    A. Trusting in the Kindness of Strangers

    B. A Wobbly Wheel of a Car

    C. A Lady Who Was Saved

    D. Accident That Didn’ t Happen

  • 26、   Do you remember where you were when you heard about a traffic accident of involving (牵涉) a close friend? The answer is probably yes. Do you remember what you were doing on your birthday that year? You may have to think a little harder.

People remember bad memories more easily and in greater detail (细节) than good ones. Why is that? A new study found that people do this because of evolutionary (进化的) reasons.

Elizabeth Ken Singer and her partners at Boston College, US, did a study looking at this. They found negative feelings like fear and sadness cause an increase in brain (大脑) activity. This activity happens in the part of the brain that controls memories. So memories caused by negative feelings are kept in greater detail than other kinds of memories.

For example, after seeing a man on a street holding a knife, people remember the knife clearly, but they forget the details of the street.

According to Ken Singer, it is easy to understand this from an evolutionary (进化论的) point of view. She said that people pay attention to dangerous information so they can use that information to guide their actions and save their lives. They can also use it to plan for similar events in the future.

The scientists say more studies are needed on how we remember bad memories. This line of research could help solve stress disorders (失调).

1According to the passage, good memories are remembered ______ than bad ones.

    A.more in detail B.less often C.longer D.more easily

2The underlined word "negative" in the third paragraph means "______" in English.

    A.simple B.bad C.unforgettable D.similar

    3When a girl breaks into tears, ______.

A.she probably has a stress disorder.

B.she can control her memories well.

C.her brain activity will be kept in greater detail.

    D.her brain activity will increase.

4What does the writer want to tell us by using the example of a man holding a knife?

A.People pay more attention to dangerous information.

B.People can learn from bad memories.

C.People can plan for similar events in the future.

D.People have the ability to save themselves from danger.

5What would be a good title for the passage?

    A.Brain activity controls memories.

    B.How we remember bad memories.

C.Bad memories are easier to remember.

D.Bad memories can cause stress disorders.
