27、Sasha Olsen went on a trip last summer with her family to Vietnam and Japan. She was frightened at the ocean’s pollution levels and dying sea animals.
“We went on this trip and I was so excited,” said Sasha. She is 10 years old and lives in Bal Harbour, Florida. “But when I saw the way the oceans had become, I got anxious. I wanted to know why things were this way but couldn’t find an answer.”
When she returned home to Bal Harbour, she grew even more disturbed. She learned how some of the beaches in South Florida had been closed by The Health Department because the water had too much bacteria in it.
Sasha sought the help of her cousin, Narmina Aliyev. Aliyev is 23 years old and a recent graduate of Nova Southeastern University with a bachelor’s degree in business. Together, they started a nonprofit Iwantmyoceanback in October.
Originally, the group started small, with friends coming together on the weekends to clean the beaches in Bal Harbour. Recently, however, I want my ocean back has hosted events to raise funds for beach cleanups and to donate to conservation groups such as the Sea Turtle Conservancy, Oceana and World Wildlife Fund, Aliyev said.
In January, Sasha organized “Kids Heal the Oceans” at Bal Harbour beach. There, she spoke about the oceans’ problems and guests made art out of microplastics gathered from the beach cleanup. “At first, our guests were a little shy, but now they’ve felt inspired to speak up! Sasha has inspired many other kids to join Iwantmyoceanback and show people that we’re able to make a change if we come together,” Aliyev said.
On February 16, the group threw a Plastic-Free Party. The party involved a beach cleanup and guests creating art from the plastic trash they collect. “It’s important to bring awareness not just through doing cleanups and meetings, but to show people they can come together through their hobbies and working together to a common goal,” said Sasha.

28、True friendship is like sound health; the value of it is seldom known until it is lost. — Charles Caleb Colton. Just like in any other relationship, arguments and fights are also a part of friendship. You will hardly find friends who have never fought with one another. Whatever the reason is, if a person feels that he is responsible for creating the differences, it is important that he apologizes to his friend. Though you can use the email, text messages or chat for expressing your apology, the good old way of saying sorry to your friend through a letter will surely have a great effect on him. This will make your friend realize that your efforts of saying sorry are genuine and you really care for him.
Points to Remember:
Timing: Write the letter at the proper time. It is not advisable to put off it for too long.
Words: While writing the letter, what matters the most is that you truly feel sorry.
Sequence: Always begin by apologizing and saying sorry for your mistake. Then explain to him your side of the story. In the third and last paragraph, talk about what his friendship means to you and make a promise of not repeating the mistake.
Delivery: You can either post it or deliver the letter personally or through someone else. You can also keep it at a location where your friend will be able to find it easily.
Some people may try to point out the friend’s mistake while writing the letter. Avoid this completely, as it can make matters worse. The letter has to be brief and should only talk about the subject that has led to your apology. Keep patient and do not expect immediate results. In some cases, it may take time for the person to forgive and forget.

29、Duncan Jurman has been fascinated by butterflies since he was 4 years old. Early on, he learned that butterfly populations were becoming smaller globally due to human activities so he developed gardens at his home, where he raised more than 5,000 butterflies to be released.
In 2018, Jurman developed a large butterfly garden at his high school, which has since attracted 28 species of butterflies, including two endangered species. The garden has also attracted other wildlife, including birds, lizards, and insects.
Jurman is devoted to protecting butterflies by reviving natural habitats. He travels to high schools to share his knowledge and encourage others to help in his quest. He’s now working with gardeners and local residents to rescue endangered butterfly species and create better habitats in general for wildlife.
“From teaching, I recognized that most students don’t know the important roles butterflies play in our nature—as pollinators of plants and key food sources for numerous animals, such as birds and lizards,” Jurman said. “Most don’t know that butterfly populations worldwide are in serious danger. Though equipped with advanced technology as a whole today, most students don’t know gardening, insects and nature in general compared with previous generations."
“I want to change this situation and realize there’s an opportunity to raise youth’s awareness of the importance of butterflies, the many threats facing them, and the relatively little effort necessary to have an immediate effect on the future of butterflies," he added.

I was a single parent of four small children. Money was always tight.
It was Christmas, and although there wasn't money for a lot of gifts, we planned to celebrate by holding parties with friends, driving downtown to see Christmas lights, having special dinners, and decorating our home. But the big excitement for the kids was the fun of Christmas shopping at them all. I have saved $120 for presents to be shared by all five of us.
The big day arrived and we started out early. I gave each of the four kids a twenty-dollar bill and reminded them to look for gifts about four dollars each.
Back in the car driving home, everyone was in high Christmas spirits, but my younger daughter, Ginger, was unusually quiet. I noticed she had only one small, flat bag with her. I could see enough through the plastic bag to tell that she had bought candy bars—fifty-cent candy bars! What did she do with that twenty-dollar bill I gave her? I wanted to yell at her, but I didn’t say anything until we got home.
