二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   Aron Lee Ralston was born in a middle class American household. His family moved to Colorado when Aron was 12 years old and this move laid the foundation for his love for hiking around the canyons (峡谷).

Aron’s life changed on April 26th, 2003, upon facing the event that threatened to take his life, and almost took it. He was hiking through the Blue John Canyon and he accidentally displaced a huge rock he was climbing down from. The rock caught his right hand in between itself and the canyon wall.

Aron had decided to go on the adventure alone and hadn’t informed anybody about it. So, when he was unable to free his right hand, he felt he would be stuck forever in there. He tried hard to get his hand out but failed, and screaming for help was of no use either. Moreover, he didn’t want to wear himself out as shouting for help would take a lot of energy, which was essential (重要) for surviving the unfortunate event for a long period of time.

After a couple of days, he knew it was impossible for him to set himself free from an 800-pound rock. He decided to cut off his right hand. He had a blunt (钝的) pocket knife with him,  which wasn’t sharp enough to cut through the bone. Some time passed and his water and food supply ended. He carved his name, date of birth and a possible date of death on the stone.

But luckily he got a strange idea that he could use the torque (扭转力) and his bones to separate his arm from his body. With the help of his very limited tool, he finally succeeded and walked out of the canyon, bleeding in large amounts. Fortunately, a holidaying family saw him and gave him food and water, and then took him to a hospital.

After the accident, Aron got a prosthetic limb (假肢) and continued mountain climbing,  considering the accident as a “turning point in his life”.

【1】What happened to Aron while he was hiking?

A.He was too tired and unable to climb

B.He suffered a knife wound in his right leg

C.He accidentally fell down the mountain.

D.He got a hand stuck between a rock and the canyon wall

【2】Why did Aron stop calling for help?

A.He found a way to save himself.

    B.He needed to save energy.

C.He gave up hope for survival

D.He met a family on vacation.

    【3】How did Aron save himself?

    A.He removed the huge stone.

B.He cut off his arm with a knife.

C.He was pulled out of there by his family.

D.He was rescued by people from a hospital.

【4】Which of the following words can best describe Aron?

    A.Enthusiastic and kind.

    B.Independent and generous.

    C.Adventurous and determined

    D.Responsible and professional.

  • 27、   Do you feel your life is losing its passion (热情)— as though everything you do, like work and study, is boring and empty? A life passion isn’t something that drops on you from the heaven or appears from thin air.1If you want to begin today to display your true self and regain your own passion in life, here are some measures you can take to get started.

    2

Get a small pocket notebook and keep it with you. Keep the memory of times when you feel happy and fulfilled. What are you doing when you feel good? Write it down in your notebook. Pay attention to what feels good to you.

    Let go of shoulds

3 I should stay in this job because I cant’s find a better one. I should became a teacher because my parents want me to. I should not try something new because I’ll look foolish. Throw away this word from your vocabulary while on your passion search.

    Appreciate your skills.

Maybe you aren’t an artist at something, but you have many skills. 4Ask your friends and parents what you are good at---no matter how small. Make a list of your skills, and make note of the skills you really enjoy.

    Keep trying

The process of finding your passion may take a couple of years. You may have to try a few and give up a few things before you discover what you feel great. It may gradually surround you rather than knock you in the head. 5

    A.Recognize your joy.

    B.Have patience and keep digging.

C.You may not recognize them, but others do.

D.Discovering your passion is a process of self-discovering.

G.Many people hold themselves back from happiness because of the word “should”.

  • 28、   The world’s first hydrogen-powered (氢动力的) trains have begun running in Germany. They began carrying passengers on Monday in Germany’s northern Lower Saxony state. The new trains will run 100-kilometre trips and can travel up to 140 kilometers per hour.

A French railroad company called Alstom built the two trains. Teams in Germany and France worked together on the project, which was supported by the German government. The new train model, called the Coradia iLint, signals the beginning of efforts in Germany and other nations to move away from pollution-producing diesel (柴油) trains.

The Coradia iLint is designed to run on non-electrified train lines with low levels of noise. It uses a process that combines hydrogen with oxygen to produce electrical power. If the system produces more energy than the train needs at that time, it can store the extra energy in batteries. The only emissions (排放物) are water and steam.

Hydrogen-powered trains cost more than diesel trains to build. But Alstom officials say the operating costs are much lower. The company plans to provide another 14 Coradia iLint trains to Lower Saxony by 2021.

The head of railroad operations in the area, Carmen Schwabl, praised replacing diesel trains with hydrogen-powered trains. She said the move was an important first step in using clean-burning technologies to reach climate protection goals.

Alstom says several other European countries have also expressed interest in developing hydrogen train systems. France have already said it wants its first hydrogen train to be on the rails by 2022.

1Why did Germany build the new trains?

    A.To replace diesel trains.

    B.To carry more passengers.

    C.To make traveling much faster.

D.To improve the relationship with France.

2What is one advantage (优势) of hydrogen-powered trains over diesel trains?

    A.They are cheaper to build.

B.They cost much less to run.

    C.They don’t use electrical power.

D.They run without making any noise.

3What can we know about hydrogen trains?

    A.They are widely used nowadays.

    B.They are environmentally friendly.

C.They can contribute to air pollution.

D.They can produce water and oxygen.

4Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?

    A.Saving Natural Resources

    B.Efforts to Reduce Emissions

C.A New Way to Make Electricity

    D.The World’s First Hydrogen Trains

  • 29、   As US firm launched (发行) a “smart lock” that can let you into your home using a mobile phone and you don't even need to take the phone out of your pocket to open the door. The August lock costs $249 and can even be set to automatically let in friends or workmen.

The makers claim that it takes just 10 minutes to install. To allow keyless access to friends, family and other visitors, the homeowner must send them an invitation. This can be done using existing contacts from the homeowner's phone's address book, but other persons must have the August app to receive the unique code of the lock from the homeowner.
