21、 One afternoon I visited an art museum while waiting for my husband to finish a business meeting. I was looking forward to a quiet view of the art works. A young couple viewing the paintings ahead of me chatted nonstop between themselves. I watched them a moment and found the wife was doing all the talk. I admired (赞赏) the husband for putting up with her continuous talk. Because of their noise, I moved on.
I met with them many times as I moved through the different rooms of art. Each time I heard her continuous talk, I moved away quickly. I was standing at the counter of the museum gift shop when the couple came near to the exit. Before they left, the man reached into his pocket and pulled out a white thing. He extended (展开) it into a long stick and then tapped (敲打) his way into the coatroom to get his wife’s jacket.
“He’s a brave man.” The salesman at the counter said, “Most of us would give up if we were blind at such a young age. But he said his life wouldn’t change during his recovery (恢复). So, as before, he and his wife come in when there’s a new art show.” “But how does he enjoy the art?” I asked, “He can’t see.” “Can’t see? You’re wrong. He sees a lot. More than you or I do.” The clerk said, “His wife describes each painting so he can see it in his head.”
I learned something from the couple that day. I saw a young wife describing paintings to a person without sight (视力) and a husband who would not allow blindness to change his life. And I saw the love shared by two people as I watched this couple walk away hand in hand.

Then he’d have to get a job and get married. He’d heard all of the stories. That life wasn’t interesting to him.
“I’m going to go back to Neverland.” said Peter. “I’ll live with Tinker Bell in the house that we built for Wendy.” Mrs. Darling saw that Wendy wanted to go. So she made a wise offer. “Wendy may come and visit you once a year. She can do the spring cleaning,” That made Peter happy again.
All the lost boys went to school. Soon, they lost the power to fly. Then they stopped believing that they had ever been to Neverland.
At the end of the first year, Peter came back. Wendy looked forward to talking to him about the old times. But Peter had had new adventures. The next year, Peter didn’t come. He did come the year after that though. Even though she didn’t want to, Wendy grew up. She became very busy at school. She made new friends. As the years passed, her memories of Neverland grew dim. She started to doubt if she had ever been there. That was about the time that she became an adult. She met a nice man and got married, Then one day, she had a baby girl. She named her “Jane”.
One warm, spring night, Jane was asleep in her bed. Wendy was in the other room mending socks. Suddenly, she heard a noise. The window blew open, and in flew Peter Pan! He was still a boy! “Hello, Wendy,” said Peter. “Have you forgotten? It’s spring-cleaning time” “I can’t come,” she said softly. “I’m an adult now. I grew up a long time ago.” He sat down on the floor, and he began to cry. His sobs woke Jane. Jane rubbed her eyes. “Boy,” She said, “Why are you crying?” And so the story began again.
Wendy’s daughter went to Neverland and came back again. And when Jane grew up, she had a daughter as well. And she went off to that beautiful world. Wendy Darling lived a long time ago.
