  • 24、   China's national anthem, March of the Volunteers, is a song that we learn at the beginning of primary school and sing at every flag-raising ceremony. And now, there's even a law to protect it. Last September, the government passed the National Anthem Law, which became effective (生效) from Oct. 1, 2017. It states how we should sing or play the song, requiring all of us to behave towards it politely.

Primary and middle schools must teach the anthem to their students and make them understand the song's spirit and history. Moreover, the law requires us to be serious when we are singing the song. We can’t joke about it or change the song's words or music. If someone breaks the law, he or she can be detained for up to 15 days, or face further punishment in more serious situations. The national anthem is different from other songs—it is the symbol of our country.

Many foreign countries also have laws for their national anthems. For example, American school children should put their right hand over their heart while singing their country's anthem at school. In Russia, the national anthem must be played on television and radio before the start and end of broadcasting. And in the Philippines, people are required to sing the national anthem with feelings when it's played in public.

  • 25、The power of word became clear to me when a couple of years back, I ran into a great trouble in my work. It was my first job, and I didn’t have a very good time in the company. There were some unclear words from a certain customer, and I completely misunderstood them, which brought some troubles for my company. And then what happened? I had a “serious” talk with my boss and you know what kind of talk it was. Everything seemed so difficult and boring, and I felt like the biggest loser on earth.

And just when needed it, came the strength in these words “You need to lean back a little to leap further”. These words came from Jessie, an old friend of mine. They made me feel better rapidly and I realized what power encouraging words from a friend held.

Soft, sincere and encouraging words from friends can give you strength in hard times. They can act as the light of hope in your time of darkness. They can make you smile and help you forget your worries. Using encouraging words is an art and it is a symbol of one’s “emotional intelligence”.

Words which come from the bottom of the heart can make your friend realize that what he is thinking as “the end” is not an end, but just “a beginning”. You must have read the famous poem “Don’t Quit(放弃)”. It says that sometimes, things go wrong but you should not quit. A few words of encouragement can really raise one’s spirits and hence make a difference.

【1】Why did the writer get into trouble in her first job?

A.Because it was her first job.

    B.Because she misunderstood a customer.

    C.Because her boss was serious.

D.Because she did not like her customer.

【2】How did the writer feel after finishing the talk with her boss?

    A.Sad

    B.Serious.

    C.Strange.

    D.Surprised.

【3】What can we infer from the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2?

A.Jessie asked the writer to be braver.

B.Jessie asked the writer to jump further.

C.Jessie wanted the writer to go home.

D.Jessie wanted the writer to take it easy.

【4】Which is NOT the power of encouraging words?

    A.To improve intelligence.

    B.To give people strength.

    C.To leave worries behind.

    D.To remain hopeful.

【5】What is the main idea of the passage?

A.A good friend can always cheer you on.

B.A boss had better encourage his workers.

C.Friends can raise our spirits in hard times.

D.Words can be the light of hope in darkness.

  • 27、It is true that people with better education are usually able to get better paying jobs. In other words, they have more chances to choose a good job while people with little or no education don’t. It seems that the purpose of education is to make people get jobs. But this isn’t accepted by all people.

Some people may think that a person should spend the best years of his life getting education only for a way of living. This was probably one of the earliest reasons of education. In fact, if education is just a way of making a living, people don’t need to spend so much time in school. People can get education for a living in a short time. Subjects like history and geography need not be taught to everyone. Even language and math need not be taught in detail (详细地), either. Here it is clear that education is much more than teaching a man to get a way of living.

Education is well-rounded and it is mainly for improving a man. It is not only to teach him to speak, read and write, but also to develop his creative thinking and other abilities. After that, it is to make him a wise man and thankfully enjoy the achievements of human. Education is to make a man lead a better life. Educated people are expected to be able to listen to good music, read good books, watch plays and most of all take an interest in the world.

I would agree that making a good living is an important reason for education, but certainly not the most important or the main reason.

    【1People with little education usually_______.

    A. spend a long time in school

    B. have a good chance to get a job

    C. spend the best years to choose jobs

    D. have fewer chances to get a good job

【2The earliest education was probably to_______.

    A. make a man lead a better life

    B. teach a man to write and think

    C. make people get a way of living

    D. teach people to read good books

【3The underlined word “well-rounded” in the passage means “_______” in Chinese.

    A.现成的   B.崭新的   C.公平的 D.全面的

【4It is expected that educated people will be able to________.

    A. accepted education as a way of living

    B. take an interest in the world

    C. develop their abilities to watch plays

    D. learn subjects like language and math

【5The passage mainly tells us that______ .

    A. education is mainly for improving a man

    B. people can get education in a short time

    C. people should be able to get better paying jobs

    D. all subjects are so important for a way of living
