四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、Type in “A cat wants to go to space” and ask the robot to write a bedtime story. Just one second later, you’ll get the story of Max, who got over many difficulties to sing among the stars.

    This robot writer is called ChatGPT. US company OpenAI developed it. The technology chats in a conversational way, answering questions from the Internet user. It can translate languages, talk with people and write songs, poems and even jokes.

    The power of ChatGPT lies in its speed and understanding of complicated (复杂的) matters. We may spend hours researching, understanding and writing an article on the theory of evolution (进化论). But ChatGPT can produce a well-written one in seconds. Another good thing about it is that if you ask dark, dangerous questions, it will not give you an answer.

    However, there are also some issues about ChatGPT. The texts they create are difficult to tell from those made by humans. This causes many problems, such as the copyright (版权) problem. It could also result in many translators and writers losing their jobs or being paid much less, as their skills are no longer something companies need. The tool also makes it easier for students to cheat on homework, which is bad for their development.

    It’s too soon to say what kind of influence ChatGPT will have on our lives. Let’s hope that, if we make good use of ChatGPT, it may turn out to be a strong tool!

    【1】The cat story in Paragraph 1 was written to ________.

    A.show what ChatGPT can do

    B.show how robots create stories

    C.introduce a series of bedtime stories

    D.introduce a cat that wants to go to space

    【2】What do we know about ChatGPT?

    A.It can only write songs.

    B.It can do a lot of work in space.

    C.It can give an answer to any question.

    D.It can chat with the Internet user.

    【3】What does the underlined word “issues” in Paragraph 4 mean?

    A.Mistakes.

    B.Worries.

    C.Experiences.

    D.Suggestions.

    【4】What is not mentioned in the passage?

    A.The power of ChatGPT.

    B.The inventors of ChatGPT.

    C.The price of ChatGPT.

    D.The problems of ChatGPT.

    【5】Which can be the best title for the passage?

    A.A Bedtime Story by ChatGPT

    B.Superfast Writing Robot ChatGPT

    C.Good Things Robots Can Do

    D.A Guide to the Use of ChatGPT

  • 25、   For most people, it is easy to read faster. Your reading speed is just a matter of habit. At first, however, you may need to change your bad reading habits. It is important to pay attention when you read. Some people read books and watch TV at the same time. They can't concentrate on the reading material as well as the TV programs. A teacher once told me that I could learn anything well if I did three things: pay attention, pay attention and pay attention.

      There are some simple things that you can do to pay better attention and get more from reading. Many researchers say that you will improve your reading ability if you preview the passage before you actually read every word of it. Previewing is a good way to improve your ability to pay attention.

      To do a preview you should:

      ● spend 30-60 seconds;

      ● look at the title of the passage;

      ● look at the headings and subheadings. They are usually underlined, in italics (斜体字) or in dark print;

      ● look at the pictures, forms and explanations;

      ● read the first and last paragraphs quickly and glance(扫视) at the first sentence of each paragraph;

      ● close the book and ask yourself:

      What is the main idea?

      What kind of passage is it?

      What is the author's purpose?

      You might not think that you could do all these things in so little time, but if you do the preview correctly, you will have a good general idea of the passage. If you have a general idea, you will be able to understand and  remember the passage better.

      If you can preview better, your ability to pay attention will be better.

    1The writer tells us how to preview in order to  .

    A. improve our ability to pay attention

    B. help us read books as well as watch TV

    C. make us read faster than before

    D. teach us how to write a passage

    2According to the passage, how many things should we do when we preview a passage?

    A. 3. B. 6. C. 9. D. 12.

    3What is the best title for the passage?

    A. Reading Ability B. Habits

    C. Pay Attention D. Preview

  • 27、Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary reached the top of Qomolangma in 1953. It was an important event in the mountain climbing history. Also, it was a turning point in the lives of Sherpa people.

    Before 1953, Sherpa people led a very simple and peaceful life. Most of them worked on farms. They had very little connection with people from other parts of the world. Now things have changed, and thanks to technology, the Sherpa world is much better connected.

    Tourism (旅游业) is also a main force in changing the lives of Sherpas. After 1953, especially in the1970s, the number of tourists to Nepal increased greatly. Today, tourism is the biggest source of income (收入来源) for Sherpas. Many Sherpas now have a richer life.

    Back in 1953, education and health care in Sherpa villages were poor. These days, however, there are many schools and medical clinics (诊所). Changes have also come to Sherpas’ dinner table: they eat healthier food than they used to. They can also get food from other places. Besides, they are able to get and use quality building materials. The new buildings are much safer than they used to be.

    There are some Sherpas, however, who like the old way of living their lives. Some older Sherpas are upset that people seem to be moving away from the traditional way of life.
