Do you like traditional classics (经典作品)? Are they difficult for you to understand? Here is a program called China in Classics. It is a large cultural program. It’s produced by CCTV-1 and creative media. Sa Beining is the contemporary scholar (当代学者), Wang Jianing is the program host, and Tian Qinxin is the artistic director.
The program focuses on excellent Chinese cultural classics and uses the creative form of space-time dialogue. It tells the shining stories in books in the long river of 5, 000 years of history. The program was first shown on CCTV-1 at 20: 00 on February 12, 2021.
The production team of China in Classics feels that it is a good starting point to spread traditional culture from excellent classics. However, no matter how excellent the culture is, once it loses its inheritance, it will die away little by little. CCTV has an important communication position and has the duty to pass on the traditional Chinese culture.
The program uses new methods to bring traditional classics to the screen and make “classics live”. It sets up two stages of “historical space” and “real space”. It invites some actors to present the stories of classics in the historical space. It also tells the stories through space-time talks between the scholar and the actors in the real space. In this way, the program brings the audience (观众) closer to each classic. When the audiences watch the program, they seem to go on a journey with the ancient people. Up to now, the program has produced 14 classics, including Shi Ji (史记), Travels of Xu Xiake and so on.

On a Saturday afternoon, when you are enjoying ice cream in front of the TV or playing on the computer, what are kids at your age doing on the other side of the planet? Are they at school? What do they do for fun every day? Find out here:
1. Education
School is expensive for many African kids. Lots of families can’t afford school uniforms or exercise books even if they don’t have to pay for school.
For those are lucky enough to go to school, they have a lot to learn. Some take two language classes: English or French and their native language. There is also Math, Science, History, Social Studies, and Geography. Plenty of housework takes up much of kids’ time after school. They have to get water and firewood for the family every day. Then, there’s cleaning, washing and helping Mum with the meal.
2. Daily fun
It’s not all work and no play. Sports are very popular. Sport is great because kids do not need money to play.
Kids can make goals with twigs (嫩枝) and their own footballs with plastic and bits of strings (绳子). They play in the desert dust and the streets of old towns.
There’re many football teams for teenagers in Africa. The first kids’ football teams were set up in Kenya (肯尼亚) in 1987.
3. Internet
Egypt and South Africa are the top two users of the Internet in the continent. All of the capital cities in Africa can get on the Internet.
But fewer than one out of every 250 people in Africa can get on the Internet. It’s really expensive. To surf the net for 20 hours costs over 600 yuan. This is more than the average monthly pay per person.
Some schools offer computer lessons but few students can enjoy computer fun at home. South Africa Lesley Harrison, 12, wishes he had the Internet at home. “I could show my family lots of stuff. No one where I live even knows what the Internet is.”

26、On Oct 11, a robot history was made when Ai-Da, a humanoid (人形的) robot artist talked at a meeting in the UK. The meeting was about “A Creative Future”. It looks at challenges for today’s artists and how they can paint as robots develop, said Sky News.
Ai-Da paints using cameras in her eyes and robotic arms. She “thinks” and answers questions using AI algorithms (算法). She has painted the late UK queen and her work was on show in the museum.
Describing herself, Ai-Da told us that “I depend on computer programs and algorithms” and “although not alive, I can still create art”.
Surprisingly, at the meeting, Ai-Da “slept” and had to be restarted. But her ability to draw pictures and answer questions is real time shows the huge developments of AI. These are developments that will continue.
One person who seems interested in this is Elon Musk. He is planning on making his own AI robots for his company, TESLA (特斯拉). TESLA’s humanoid robot, named Optimus, came to our world at Tesla’s AI Day on Sept 30. TESLA showed videos of their robot doing simple tasks like carrying boxes and watering plants, said CNN.
With robots becoming more and more part of our daily lives, we may have to learn to live with them. But will people be happy to have these robotic friends or will they feel threatened (威胁的) by them? As Ai-Da said in the meeting, “Robots can be both a threat and an opportunity.”
