Each $8.95 TreeGreetings e-card comes with a virtual tour of the actual location where the gift tree will be planted along with a full-color, personalized planting certificate. The greetings feature musical slide shows with nature photography and inspirational messages.

Individuals and organizations can easily send personalized TreeGreetings to their entire holiday lists at quantity-discounted rates, and distribution on a selected date can be scheduled days, weeks, or months in advance.

  • 22、   A new study suggests Earth could have lost up to 60 percent of its atmosphere in the collision of space objects that created the moon. Most scientists believe this event happened about 4 billion years ago when Earth was still developing. They think a massive object, possibly the size of the planet Mars, hit the Earth, sending vaporized particles (颗粒)into space. Gravity is believed to have brought these particles together to form the moon.

The study presents evidence that this collision might have caused Earth to lose between 10 to 60 percent of the atmosphere it had. A report on the study appeared in the publication Astrophysical Journal Letters. The researchers‘ impact assumption is one of three leading theories of how the moon was formed. The others suggest the moon was either created at the same time as Earth, or that it was captured by Earth's gravitational field as it traveled through space.

The researchers decided to explore how massive collisions of objects affected rocky planets with thin atmospheres. To do this, they carried out more than 300 “supercomputer simulations (模拟)The experiment considered the positions at which the objects hit the planet, the speed of the impacts, as well as the size and mass of the colliding objects. Earlier research suggested that impact collisions during the latter stages of the formation of a planet can affect its atmosphere. The computer models in this study expanded on this idea. They showed that a collision like the one that may have formed the moon likely took a large part of Earth's atmosphere.

    1What do most scientists believe?

A.Earth has lost its atmosphere in the collision.

B.The moon was created in the collision of space objects.

C.The planet Mars hit Earth about 4 billion years ago.

D.The collision of space objects caused the atmosphere to increase.

2What can we infer from Paragraph 2?

A.The collision of Earth and the moon affected gravity.

B.The atmosphere on Earth is the cause of the collision.

C.Scientists hold different points on how the moon was formed.

D.An agreement on the formation of the moon has been reached.

3What does the passage talk about?

A.The process of the moon's being formed.

B.The heated debate among different scientists.

C.The supercomputer experiment of planets’ collision.

D.The collision of space objects affected Earth's atmosphere.

4What is the purpose of the passage?

    A.To inform. B.To persuade. C.To debate. D.To warn.

  • 23、What Are the Limits of Human Endurance?

    Paragraph 1:______

When it comes to running, how far and how fast you can go is determined by a number of physical factors, including your VO2 max (the volume of oxygen you can pump round your body) and your lactate (乳酸盐) threshold, which is the point at which your body produces more lactate than it can break down (a build-up of this chemical makes you run less efficiently). Some of this is genetic, some of it comes from training. But in recent years, sports scientists have also come to recognise the importance of mental strength. The longer you run, the more important a well-thought-out mental strategy is. Common strategies for coping with pain include motivational self talk and distraction techniques to help block negative thoughts.

    Paragraph 2:______

Thirty years ago, scientists calculated that the fastest possible marathon, in perfect conditions and with the perfect athlete, would be 1 hour 58 minutes. And we’re getting close. This September, Kenyan long-distance runner Eliud Kipchoge set a new world record of 2:01:39 at the Berlin Maraton—a race ideally suited to fast times because of its flat course, few corners, and typically good weather conditions. Sports physiologists think that the two-hour limit could be broken in the next few decades, as a bigger talent pool of runners, plus advances in training technology, create ever more ideal combinations of athlete and running conditions.

    Paragraph 3: ______

Long-distance running stresses the body; recent research from the University of the Peloponnese in Greece found that post-race levels of inflammation(炎症) in the blood of ultra endurance runners (those who run races longer than a marathon)showed similar descriptions to people with cancer or cirrhosis. However, over the next few days, the runners’ levels returned to normal, suggesting that they have a remarkable ability to recover after an extreme workout. Good training is partly about helping you know when, for instance, you’ve crossed the line from ‘good pain’ into ‘bad pain’.

【1】Match each paragraph with one of the following questions, and then make the choice.

①Is endurance in the mind or in the muscles?

②Is endurance running bad for you?

③Will endurance running become a hit?

④Will anyone ever run a two-hour marathon?

    A.Paragraph l:①; Paragraph2:②; Paragraph3:③

    B.Paragraph 1:④; Paragraph 2:①; Paragraph3:②

    C.Paragraph 1:④; Paragraph 2:②; Paragraph3:③

    D.Paragraph 1:①; Paragraph2:④; Paragraph3:②

【2】According to the research, how can distraction techniques help long distance runners?

    A.By raising their VO2 max.

    B.By helping them concentrate.

    C.By lowering their lactate threshold.

    D.By preventing them feeling discouraged.

【3】What can be learned from the passage?

A.Good training can help you find out your limits.

B.The world marathon record is 1 hour 58 minutes.

    C.Marathon training technology hasn’t changed a lot.

D.Long distance running causes lasting harm to our health.

  • 24、Step into an American preschool classroom today and you are likely to fall into a so-called print-rich environment, every surface colorfully decorated with instructional posters, classroom  rules, chedules, and  mottos, few of which a 4-year-old can understand in fact.

Besides the confusing things on classroom walls, teaching methods and curriculums have changed recently,by which more time is spent on what’s called “seat work”一workbooks and worksheets—but less time devoted to music and art.School—readiness skills are essential for the youngest learners to move on to a subsequent stage. As a result, expectations that may arguably have been reasonable for 5-and 6-year-olds, such as bemg able to sit at a desk and using pencil and paper, are now directed at even younger children, who lack the motor skills and attention span to be successful.

However, parents of preschoolers tend to be on board with these changes, because they fear that the old—fashioned pleasures of unhurried learning have no place in today’s highly competitive world. The stress is obvious:Pick the “wrong” preschool and your child might not go to college. She might not be employable. She might not even be allowed to start first grade!

As preschoolers are learning so much academic knowledge at earlier ages, they seem somehow less curious and less engaged. Some teachers say that more children today seem to lack the language skills. The real focus in the preschool years should not be just on vocabularv and reading, but on talking and listening.By talking with adults, and one another, they pick up information, learn how things work and solve puzzles that trouble them. For our littlest learners, what could be more important than that?

【1】Which of the statements does the author probably agree with?

A.Younger children can fully understand the instructional things in classrooms.

B.3-and 4-year-olds shouldn’t be expected too much in school readiness skills.

C.More time should be spent on“seat work’’ instead of music and art.

D.Even 5-and 6-year-olds have good motor skills and attention span.

【2】The underlined phrase “be on board with” in the third paragraph most probably means   ”.

    A.accept   B.reject   C.doubt D.worry

【3】Why are parents so picky when choosing a preschool for their kids?

A.Because some preschools are too old fashioned.

B.Because a wrong preschool might ruin kids’ future.

C.Because the competitions between kindergartens are fierce.

D.Because it is easy for them to choose a right preschool.

【4】What’s the best title of the passage?

A.New Preschool Breaking down the Kids.

B.The Early Bird Gets the Worm.

    C.Preschool,the Gatekeeper to Elementary School?

D.Seat work,a Better Choice for the Youngest Kids?
