21、This holiday, I decided to go to Paris. My flight was at 6 in the morning, and I barely slept the night before. Instead, I was checking my luggage again and again, worrying about whether I had brought everything. My mom drove me to the airport at 3 am. 【1】I took a deep breath and walked into the terminal.
Then I got onto the plane. When I smelled the fuel of the airplane and fastened my seat belt, all of my memories of traveling came flooding back. After the initial excitement, I then started figuring out how I could kill the 22 hours ahead. The seats next to me were empty, so I removed the armrest and lay down. I now had a couch on the plane!【2】
What about the 15 hours left?【3】 Luckily, I soon discovered a better way; on board Wi-Fi. It was not cheap, but I would then get access to the internet.【4】It was a wise choice. The minute I logged into the Wi-Fi, messages started popping up. I texted back my friends, scrolled through my social media and read articles on my phone.【5】Also, access to the internet gave me a feeling that I was still on the ground with my friends.

22、“Best space tacos(玉米卷饼) yet,” American astronaut Megan McArthur wrote on social media Twitter on Oct 30, with a photo of her smiling from ear to ear. The taco feast celebrated the first time peppers were successfully grown on the International Space Station.
Life as an astronaut is exciting, but that doesn’t include food. Astronauts have endured packaged food for decades. “If you store packaged food for a long duration, the quality, flavor and nutritional quality decrease, the vitamins degrade,” Gioia Massa of NASA Kennedy Space Center in the US told The Guardian. Growing food in space could be crucial for astronauts on long-duration missions.
“Growing colorful vegetables in space can have long-term benefits for physical and psychological health,” said Mat Romeyn, project scientist at NASA, in a statement. The benefits of growing vegetables in space are obvious, but how are they grown?
Though astronauts have been growing plants in space for decades , cultivating edible(可食用的) food without the benefits of gravity and natural light has been difficult . A plant growth system called Veggie has been used to grow plants on the space station since 2014, according to The New York Times.
The Veggie garden is about the size of a piece of luggage and typically holds six plants. Each plant grows in a “pillow” filled with clay and fertilizer. The “pillows” are important for distributing water, nutrients and air in a healthy balance around the roots.
In the absence of gravity, plants use other environmental factors, such as light, to guide growth. LEDs above the plants produce a light suited for the plants’ growth. According to NASA, Veggie typically glows pink, which enables plants to use both blue and red wavelengths more efficiently. Other spectrums(光谱) of light, like greens, yellows or oranges, are less useful for plants.
So far, US astronauts have successfully grown 10 different crops, including lettuce and radish, on the space station since 2015, according to CNN.
【1】Which word can best describe the food consumed by astronauts in space?
A.Low-nutrition
B.Tasty-flavor
C.Poor-package
D.High-calorie
【2】What makes it difficult to grow plants suitable to eat in space?
A.The shortage of crop varieties
B.The objection of the International Space Station
C.The lack of gravity and natural light
D.The long-duration missions
【3】What can be learned about The Veggie Garden?
A.It can hold 10 different crops for a piece of garden.
B.It has been used to grow plants on the space station for nearly six years.
C.The “pillows” can provide plants with balanced water, nutrients and air.
D.Blue, red and orange lights are important for the growth of plants.
【4】What is the best title for the text?
A.Life of American Astronauts on the Space Station
B.Success of Planting in Space

23、There’s fresh evidence that eating a healthy diet, one that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables and limits highly processed foods, can help reduce symptoms of depression.
A randomized controlled trial published in the journal PLOS ONE finds that symptoms of depression dropped significantly among a group of young adults after they followed a Mediterranean-style pattern of eating for three weeks. Participants saw their depression “score” fall from the “moderate” range down to the “normal” range. 【1】 Alternatively, the depression scores didn’t change for those who didn’t change their diet.
These participants continued to eat a diet higher in refined carbohydrates, processed foods and sugary foods and drinks. Their depression scores remained in the “moderate” range. 【2】
There is a highly consistent evidence base linking healthier diets to reduced depression risk. For example, a 2013 analysis of 22 previously published studies showed that the Mediterranean diet was associated with a lower risk of depression. 【3】 It suggested that a diet rich in fruit, whole grains, vegetables, fish, olive oil and low-fat milk was associated with a lower risk of depression while a diet rich in greater amounts of red meat, refined grains, sweets and high-fat dairy products was linked to a higher risk of depression.
【4】 They could be education, income, body weight and other health behaviors. Most of these studies show an association and “can’t indicate cause and effect”. In other words, the studies don’t prove dietary changes directly cause the improvement or decline in mood. 【5】 it is unlikely to be a cure for all mental diseases.
A.A 2017 study had similar findings.
B.People are quite surprised by the findings.
C.And they reported lower levels of anxiety and stress too.
D.Because it is hard to assess participants’ mental health,
E.So, while diet may be important to your mood and mental health.
F.We need further research to understand how our brain works to stay healthy.
G.Actually, these links between diet and depression are independent of some relative aspects.

26、阅读下面的材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Last year at Christmas time, my wife, three children and I were on our way from Paris to Nice.Somehow everything went wrong. Our hotels were “tourist traps” and our rented car broke down. On Christmas Eve, when we checked into a dirty hotel in Nice, there was no Christmas spirit in our hearts.
It was raining and cold when we went out to eat.We found a small restaurant poorly decorated for the holiday.Only five tables in the restaurant were taken. There were two German couples, two French families, and an American sailor, by himself. They were eating in stony silence except the sailor. He was writing a letter, and a halfsmile lighted his face. In the corner a piano player was listlessly (无精打采地) playing Christmas music.
All of us were interrupted by an old French flower woman through the front door. She had a worn overcoat and her old shoes were wet.Carrying her basket of flowers, she went from one table to another. No one bought any. Exhausted and frustrated, she sat down at a table.
The sailor finished his meal and got up to leave. Putting on his coat, he walked over to the flower woman's table.
“Merry Christmas, ” he said, smiling and picking out a handful of flowers.“How much are they?”
“Two francs, Sir.”
The sailor put a twenty franc note in the woman's hand.
“I don't have change, Sir, ” she said. “I'll get some from the waiter.”
“No, ma'am, ” said the sailor, leaning over and kissing the ancient cheek.“This is my Christmas present for you.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
Then the sailor headed for our table with the flowers in his hand.
