21、Graham and his friends preferred to shoot up in their arms, necks and legs. A dealer once said Graham was the type who would never be able to turn back and that he expected him to die from the drug. Wendy feared the same, but didn’t know how to save her son. “ Once, after he’d disappeared for more than a month, I found him at a friend’s house with a bunch of other users,” she said, “I got down on my hands and knees, begging him to come home. He did, but the next morning he was gone. I don’t know what made him do it, but I drove 20 miles to the nearest train station. Graham was headed for Seattle, his pockets full of drugs. If I hadn’t gotten there in time, I would never have seen him alive again.”
The turning point came in 2007, after Graham was arrested yet again for possession. Wendy got a call from the Montana Drugs Project, which works with local law enforcement(强制执行) to keep track of youth-related crimes so it can help families in trouble. Following a counselor’s advice, Wendy hired two men to come to her home in the middle of the night, tie Graham and take him to a treatment program in Thompson Falls, Montana. “I was high when they came and really angry with my mom,” he said, “But if she hadn’t done that, drugs would have killed me.” After six months of treatment, Graham, now 19, came back to Kalispell, where he’s grown close to Wendy once again. “I still have the desires every day and attend support meetings every night,” he said, “But life is worth living again. My mom thinks that’s a miracle. I guess she is right.”

22、Disturbed by reports of rising domestic violence under coronavirus lockdown, a Polish high school student launched a fake online shop to offer a lifeline to victims trapped in their homes. Her idea won a European Union prize that came with € 10,000($12,120).
"I heard about a French initiative(计划), where people go to the pharmacy(药房)and ask for a special mask that lets the pharmacist know they are a victim of domestic violence, " Krystyna Paszko explained. "I thought it was so brilliant! " In April, she decided to open her shop " Camomiles and Pansies" to sell those cosmetics. When a victim writes asking to buy a cream, a psychologist responds instead of a salesperson and asks how long the "skin problems" have been going on for. If someone places an order and leaves an address, it is actually a code asking for authorities to visit their home.
After Krystyna openly wrote about her plan on her own Facebook page, she was flooded with questions. "I thought it would only be for my friends, but the shares on Facebook were big and it became a hit, " she said. With so much interest, she contacted the Women's Rights Centre, a Polish NGO(Non-Governmental Organization), asking for assistance. In response it provided psychologists and lawyers to work with the website. Since its launch, more than 350 people have contacted the website. Most of the victims are young, under 40, and about 10% are male. The president of the Women's Rights Centre, Urszula Nowakowska, said she was "very impressed" by Krystyna's project. "There are around 70,000 domestic violence cases annually in Poland, of which 56,000 are treated as family conflicts rather than crimes. "
Krystyna credits her interest in human rights to her role in the scouts(童子军)— she leads a Warsaw scout group and created its Facebook page. After she won the prize, she claimed to put the money to good use and was pleased that a spotlight was being shone on the problem of home abuse.
【1】What might have inspired Krystyna with the idea?
A.The advice from a professional psychologist.
B.The urge to win the European Union prize.
C.The French initiative to sell special masks.
D.The decreasing domestic violence cases.
【2】How can a victim get help from Krystyna's project?
A.By purchasing a specially-made cream.
B.By going to her shop for skin problems.
C.By visiting her online shop to place orders.
D.By requesting support from psychologists.
【3】What can we know about the website from paragraph 3?

【4】Which of the following words best describe Krystyna?

23、Everyone knows that fish is good for health. 【1】 But it seems that many people don’t cook fish at home. Americans eat only about fifteen pounds of fish per person per year, but we eat twice as much fish in restaurants as at home. Buying, storing, and cooking fish isn’t difficult. 【2】This text is about how to buy and cook fish in an easy way.
【3】 Fresh fish should smell sweet: you should feel that you’re standing at the ocean’s edge. Any fishy or strong smell means the fish isn’t fresh. 【4】When you have bought a fish and arrive home, you’d better store the fish in the refrigerator if you don’t cook it immediately, but fresh fish should be stored in your fridge for only a day or two. Frozen fish isn’t as tasty as the fresh one.
There are many common methods used to cook fish. 【5】First, clean it and season it with your choice of spices. Put the whole fish on a plate and steam it in a steam pot for 8 to 10 minutes if it weighs about one pound. (A larger one will take more time.) Then, it’s ready to serve.
A.Do not buy it.
B.If you like it, you can buy more.
C.The easiest is to steam it.
D.The fish will go bad in a few hours.
E.It just requires a little knowledge.
F.When buying fish, you should first smell it.
G.The fats in fish are thought to help prevent heart disease.
24、 Atoms and molecules in the air move constantly. 【1】 In high-pressure systems, the molecules inside the system move faster than those that surround it. The opposite occurs in low-pressure systems, where the air inside the low is moving more slowly than in the surrounding area.
Air flows around a high-or low-pressure system in much the same way as water swirls (旋涡) around a hole. In the Northern Hemisphere, air that moves into a high-pressure system flows outward in a clockwise pattern. Air flowing upward in a region of low pressure moves counterclockwise. 【2】
Air is more dense (密集的) in a region of high pressure, so the air pushes out toward less dense regions. The air mass begins to warm as it goes down, which prevents the formation of clouds. The presence of clouds indicates that rain may be present in the air. 【3】 In a region of low pressure, the air rises. As it does, the air mass cools and clouds form from the humidity (湿气) inside the air mass.
【4】Once the droplets are heavy enough, they fall to the ground. When temperatures are warm, rain is the result. If temperatures are low? the result is snow. When water droplets fall through relatively warmer or colder air masses on the journey to Earth, the low- pressure system may bring snow or ice.
Rain associated with low-pressure systems holds true in much of the Northern Hemisphere. 【5】 So in tropical areas, rain association with highs or lows is less predictable.
A.This movement creates air pressure.
B.So we can predict rain from the clouds.
C.But the air pressure changes little in tropical climates.
D.The higher the air pressure is, the faster the winds blow in and outwards.
E.Humidity in the rising air of a low-pressure system becomes water droplets.
F.This swirling air results in winds around or near the high-and low-pressure boundaries.
G.High-pressure systems have light or no clouds, indicating fair weather without rain.
