21、The National Postal Museum is divided into galleries that explore America's postal history. Visitors will have a full picture of the creation and fantastic varieties of postage stamps.
World of Stamps
Video images bring stamps to life and attract visitors who explore the surrounding displays. Visitors encounter the world’s first postage stamp — the 1840 Penny Black and learn how it revolutionized communication. Stamp images, including Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech and the stamp that helped raise almost $72 million dollars for breast cancer research, explain how stamps have shaped history and honored people and places worldwide.
Gems of American Philately
Visitors have the opportunity of examining 13 of the most rare and highly valued stamps in the world of the stamp collection, including the most famous American stamp of all, the 1918 Inverted Jenny. A video explains why the Inverted Jenny and other stamps displayed here are the most valuable. The treasures in this area are rarely available for public viewing. Each tells a story about an important event in US history.
Mail Marks History
The markings on mail provide valuable clues to the surprising ways mail has been transported over time, including challenges and even disasters encountered along the way. You will understand these markings by following the journeys of three historic letters.
Connect with US Stamps
Visitors explore their own connections with stamps. At three touch screen tables, they create their own stamp collection based on the topics that interest them most. They can also create their own stamp designs. Visitors have the chance to view videos in which stamp designers talk about their craft, stamp collectors explain what they collect and why, and footage(片段) shows the process of making stamps.

22、There are many things to consider when discussing the matter of e-books vs. printed books, but eventually, it boils down to the reader’s preference. 【1】 They also believe the rustle(沙沙声) of the pages as they flip(翻动) gently through a printed book with their fingers cannot be obtained from a cold, electronic version.
On the other hand, those who prefer e-books often say that a whole lot of weight is removed from their shoulders.【2】 However, it becomes doubly so when it comes to the task of choosing which books to bring. The problem is solved when a reader can put hundreds of books in a single device(设备) that takes up only a few square inches of a bag.
【3】 A recent study found that literacy(读写能力)building in children is more effective with a printed book than with an e-book. The reason is printed books provide the centralized focus on the story and the opportunities for interaction(互动) between the child and a parent reading the book with the child. Of course, e-books also deliver the story, and encourage the child to participate with interactive add-ons. 【4】
Manc Slater, director of 7 Speed Reading, weighs in on the debate. “Clearly, the winner in this round is none other than the person doing the reading, no matter which method they choose. 【5】 After all, there are so many books to pick up and read out there—both in printed and e-book versions—that we should be concentrating on reading as many as we can, in whatever format suits us best.”
A.Packing for trips is bad enough as it is.
B.But these are only physical considerations.
C.There simply is no way to not enjoy reading.
D.When it comes to this, printed books are still a better choice.
E.What people should be focused on is learning how to read faster.
F.Fans of printed books claim that there is still nothing like the smell of paper.
G.However, there is no conversation and nothing to encourage the child to use language.
23、We often hear that 60 is the new 50. Just check out the images of your grandparents or greatgrandparents and notice their stooped (曲背的) bodies, their wrinkled faces when they were barely pushing 60. What a contrast with energetic, gymgoing sexagenarians (六十几岁的人) of today !
The research overseen by gerontologist(老年学专家)Taina Rantanen, compared adults born in 1910 and 1914 with those born roughly 30 years later. Both birth groups were examined in person at age 60 and again at 70 with the same set of six physical tests and five measures of cognition(认知).
According to the research, the laterborn group could walk faster, had a stronger hand grasp and could use more force with their lower legs. On cognitive tests, the laterborn group had better verbal fluency, and scored higher on a test matching numbers to symbols. But not everything changed across the generations: measures of lung function were surprisingly not changing, and there was no improvement in the shortterm memory task of recalling a series of figures.
There are many reasons why people are aging better, including improved medical care and a drop in smoking, but the key factor shown in the study of physical function was that the laterborn adults were more physically active and had bigger bodies, which suggested better nutrition. For brain function, the key seemed to be more years of education.
“Education is a powerful influence on aging and health,”says Luigi Ferrucci, scientific director of the U. S. National Institute on Aging. “With more education, you are probably going to have a larger income, which means you are more likely to go to the doctor, and have good nutrition.” He also points out that the average lifespan is seven years shorter in a poor state such as Mississippi than in a wealthier one such as California. “Here we still have lots of people who cannot take the drugs they need because they cannot pay for them,” he says. In short, 60 may be the new 50 for many of us but not for all.
【1】How does the writer begin the passage?
A.By imagining a scene.
B.By presenting an image.
C.By raising a question.
D.By making a comparison.
【2】Which of the following is true about the research?
A.The laterborn group could hardly grasp things tightly.
B.Everything didn’t change across the generations.
C.The laterborn group did worse in matching numbers to symbols.
D.There was a little improvement in shortterm memory in both groups.
【3】According to the research, what contributes most to better physical aging?
A.Better nutrition.
B.Education.
C.Improved medical care.
D.Energetic images.
【4】What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Many reasons contribute to people’s better physical function.
B.Today’s energetic sexagenarians have much better images.
C.Education is the key to people’s better aging.
D.People today are aging better than people born earlier.
24、Choosing the right job is probably one of the most important decisions we have to make in life, and it is frequently one of the hardest decisions we have to make. One important question that you might ask yourself is: “How do I get a good job?” 【1】.
There are people who can answer an insignificant advertisement in the local paper and land the best job in the world; others write to all sorts of places all over the country, and never seem to get a reply at all. Still others believe that the in person, door-to-door approach is by far the best way to get a job; and then there are those who, through no active decision of their own, just seem to be in the right place at the right time. 【2】. He used to spend a lot of his free time down by the sea watching the tall ships, but never thinking that he might one day sail one of them. His father was a farmer, and being a sailor could never be anything for the boy but an idle dream. One day, on his usual wandering, he heard the captain of the ship complaining that he could not sail because one member of his crew was sick. Without stopping to think, the lad(少年) offered to take his place. 【3】.
【4】. If the lad had gone home to ponder(考虑)his decision for a week, he may have missed his chance. It is one thing to be offered an opportunity; it is another thing to take it and use it well.
Sometimes we hear stories about people who break all the rules and still seem to land plum jobs (美差). When you go for a job interview or fill out an application, you are expected to say nice things about the company to which you are applying. 【5】. And within a year this person had become general manger of the company.
A.People find jobs in an infinite number of ways
B.Take for example the young man who wanted to be a sailor.

E.It’s almost impossible to find a good job by answering advertisement in newspapers.
F.This story also illustrates the importance of seizing an opportunity when it presents itself.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
For years, Levinson, an experienced teacher in a severely disadvantaged neighborhood, knew that her young students had it rough—some were homeless, many were in foster care, others were jammed into garages or single rooms with eight to ten other family members—so she made sure that she was good to them every holiday season.
It was hard to do on a teacher’s salary, but from the post-Thanksgiving return until the Christmas break, every day Levinson managed to bring the kids some little holiday gifts—a packet of sweets, a pencil, or something. No matter how small the gift, her students were always grateful. And there was a good chance it would outshine whatever their families could afford to give them.
Then the pandemic hit and the district switched to online learning. Zoom(视频会议软件) opened the educators’ eyes to many other physical hardships their students faced. For Levinson, it was a peek (窥视) behind the curtains into her students’ home lives—and what she saw broke her heart.
One kindergartner spent her daily six hours of Zoom squatting(蹲着) at the back of a store while her father worked. Others attended virtual class in the rooms where their families were temporarily sheltering. On screen, some students had several brothers and sisters in the background, all sharing one bed and doing online school for various grades. Levinson began to hear a common complaint that they’d be trying to type on the computer, and that their little fingers were cold. In the winter, the temperatures dropped to 14 degree below zero, and a lot of the kids were working in unheated spaces.
Levinson knew she had to do something. But on her limited means, how could she possibly keep all her students warm? She created a simple wish list on Amazon: a blanket for each student to drive away the cold. “Help Keep My Students Warm and Bundled on Zoom,” she wrote. Her plea (请求) had spread rapidly.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
