二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、When my dad was first diagnosed with cancer and had radiation, I pushed my folks to start eating more fresh produce and preferably organics. My mom really improved her cooking from the roasted slice of pork and frozen-veggies dinners that I had fallen in love with. Dad said he had never eaten so well.

My dad had been an IBM guy, who often said, “People never change,” but he became skilled in overall treatments and began to take well-informed control of his own course of action. I wasn't thinking too much of his changes, but he had survived cancer for over 10 years, constantly learning, running his charity golf events, doing a bit of travel, and always looking pleasant and smiling.

My dad and I decorated a farmhouse in 2012, and I started taking care of the orchard, shaping rows for crops and a herb garden, and learning to care for four red hens. Bringing farm-fresh food to my folks was a way I could contribute to dad's health as well as his enjoyment of life, take a little work off my mom's hands, and sit and chat about something other than cancer.

The idea for this business came from what we learned about the role of food in health. My dad’s doctor told him that eating fresh produce could help resist cancer. Dad helped me set up the farm and worked till just a few days before he passed. But all of what I do here is based on experience, research, and strong values.

We learned more than I ever wanted to know. But the goals of this farm developed as we learned, and here we have it: Produce with a purpose—fresh produce, grown for disease-fighting and preventive health value, delivered with easy but crazy—delicious recipes as well as support, encouragement, overall thinking and even a bit of humor.

【1】What was the author's favorite food in the past?

    A.Organic food.

    B.Fresh vegetables.

    C.Barbecued meat.

    D.Fast-food meal.

【2】What did the author think of his dad?

    A.He was a stubborn senior.

    B.He was crazy about adventures.

C.He was indifferent to his disease.

    D.He was positive about challenges.

【3】What inspired the author and his dad to start the farm?

    A.The pressure of his mother.

    B.The suggestions of a doctor.

C.The deadly cancer of his dad.

D.The great harvest on the farm.

【4】What is the text mainly about?

    A.A farm with a purpose.

    B.A dream of my family.

    C.The cancer of my father.

    D.The value of fresh produce.

  • 22、Plastic is everywhere because plastic is an extremely useful material. It is cheap, strong and lightweight. What’s more, it can take on nearly any form or shape, from soft and stretchy (有弹性的) to hard and glasslike.

Plastic, however, is far from perfect. It may even be bad for us.Studies now suggest that poisonous chemicals can get out of some types of plastic, get into our bodies, and cause a variety of health problems, including cancer, birth defects and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (注意缺陷障碍).

Two types of chemicals in particular have raised special concern lately. They are called phthalates (邻苯二甲酸盐) and Bisphenol-A (二酚基丙烷), BPA for short. Not all plastic products contain them. But the ones that do are surrounded by controversy (争议).That’s because experts disagree on how dangerous these chemicals are.

Plastic is a single word, but plastic isn’t just one thing. What all plastics share in common are plasticizers -- special chemicals that allow the material to be changed into nearly any shape or texture.Plasticizers (塑化剂) are added to plastic during the manufacturing process.

Phthalates and BPA are two types of plasticizers that work in different ways.Phthalates add softness to things like shampoo bottles, raincoats and rubber. They are also used in perfumes and makeup.BPA, on the other hand, gives a hard, clear, almost glasslike feel to products such as infant bottles.BPA also appears in food and soda cans, DVDs and other unexpected places.

How do these chemicals get into us? When plastic is heated in the microwave or dishwasher, chewed on or scratched, the chemicals can seep (渗透) out of the plastic.Even though we can’t see them, we eat them, drink them and breathe them in.

Scientists and parents are especially worried about young children, who tend to chew on everything, including plastic.Dozens of countries, including the European Union, Japan, Canada and Mexico have already banned phthalates from products made for children younger than three.California and Washington have done the same. And a number of other states are considering similar rules. As for BPA, Canada became the first country to ban the chemical from baby bottles.A dozen states are considering it.

【1】What can we know about the plastic from the first paragraph?

A.Its characters and effects. B.Its wide use and bad points.

C.Its importance and chemicals.   D.Its popularity and advantages.

【2】Which of the following products contains BPA?

A.A soft plastic cup.   B.A pencil eraser.

C.A baby milk bottle. D.A new perfume.

【3】Phthalates and BPA can get into us __________.

    A.through mouth or nose

    B.through blood transfusion

    C.by feeling plastic products

    D.by heating in the microwave

【4】What is the passage mainly about?

A.A new ban on plastic products.

    B.Problems caused by the plastic.

    C.Good points of the plastic.

    D.The use of plasticizers.

  • 23、The concept of culture has been defined many times, and although no definition has achieved universal acceptance, most of the definitions include three central ideas: that culture is passed on from generation to generation, that a culture represents a ready-made principle for living and for making day-to-day decisions, and, finally, that the components of a culture are accepted by those in the culture as good, and true, and not to be questioned. The eminent anthropologist George Murdock has listed seventy-three items that characterize every known culture, past and present.

The list begins with Age-grading and Athletic sports, runs to Weaning and Weather Control, and includes on the way such items as Calendar, Fire making, Property Rights, and Tool making. I would submit that even the most extreme advocate of a culture of poverty viewpoint would readily acknowledge that, with respect to almost all of these items, every American, beyond the first generation immigrant, regardless of race or class, is a member of a common culture. We all share pretty much the same sports. Maybe poor kids dont know how to play polo, and rich kids dont spend time with stickball, but we all know baseball, football, and basketball. Despite some misguided efforts to raise minor dialects to the status of separate  tongues, we all, in fact, share the same language.

There may be differences in diction and usage, but it would be ridiculous to say that all Americans dont speak English. We have the calendar, the law, and large numbers of other cultural items in common. It may well be true that on a few of the seventy-three items there are minor variations between classes, but these kinds of things are really slight variations on a common theme.

There are other items that show variability, not in relation to class, but in relation to religion and ethnic background funeral customs and cooking, for example. But if there is one place in America where the melting pot is a reality, it is on the kitchen stove; in the course of one month, half the readers of this sentence have probably eaten pizza, hot pastrami, and chow mein. Specific differences that might be identified as signs of separate cultural identity are relatively insignificant within the general unity of American life; they are cultural commas and semicolons in the paragraphs and pages of American life.

【1】According to the authors definition of culture, ________.

    A. a culture should be accepted and maintained universally

    B. a culture should be free from falsehood and evils

    C. the items of a culture should be taken for granted by people

    D. the items of a culture should be accepted by well-educated people

【2】What can we learn from the passage?

    A. Baseball, football and basketball are popular sports in America.

    B. Different classes have different cultures.

    C. Playing polo is popular among kids.

    D. There is no variation in using the American language.

【3】It can be inferred that ________ will most probably be included in the seventy-three items.

    A. accent

    B. polo

    C. dream patterns

    D. table manners

【4】The authors main purpose in writing this passage is to ________.

    A. prove that different people have different definitions of culture

    B. warn that variations exist as far as a culture is concerned

    C. indicate that culture is closely connected with social classes

    D. show that the idea that the poor or the rich establish a separate culture is an absurdity

  • 24、The modern world is full of useful objects that were invented by someone, from spoons and  chopsticks in our kitchens to the Ipads in our handbags. Each invention is an example of the creative power of the human mind. Where do inventors get their inspirations(灵感)? The inspiration behind  each of these inventions varies.

Take the shopping cart as an example. Sylvan Goldman was a grocery store owner. Like most businessmen, he wished that his customers would buy more so that he could make more money. He knew what if they could carry more goods easily as they were shopping, when his sales would go up. While thinking about the problem one night, he had an idea. Working with a local handyman named  Fred Young, he designed the first shopping cart. Today, retailers who use shopping carts sell more goods and make more profits.

Nature has also inspired inventors throughout history. This is what happened to George de  Mestral one day. While hunting with his dog in the Swiss Alps, he noticed how the burs(剌球) of  certain plants stuck to his clothing and to his dog' s fur. After examining them under a microscope,

he found they had tiny hooks that could easily stick to the fibers of clothing or animal hide. For the next ten years, George de Mestral searched for the hest way to produce his idea. The result of his original inspiration was Velcro, which is used in many modem objects, including sportswear, shoes, automobiles, and even space suits.

These examples show us that there are at least two possible inspirations for human creativity in  the world of inventions profit and nature. No doubt, the future will continue to breathe new life into the economies of the world with fresh ideas and inventions. How many of their creations will be inspired by natural phenomena? The world's problems require creativity and we can expect best solutions from future generations.

【1】Why did sales go up in Sylvan Goldman's grocery store after he began providing shopping carts?

    A. Because grocery stores without shopping carts made less money.

    B. Because he lowered the prices of his goods.

    C. Because customers liked the shopping cart’s creative design.

    D. Because customers were able to carry more items when shopping.

【2】According to the article, which invention shows how nature inspires us?

    A. The bur.   B. The shopping cart.  C. Velcro.   D. Spoon.

【3】Which of the following statements would the author most likely disagree with?

    A. The future does not promise many useful inventions.

    B. There are many interesting inventions in the world today.

    C. Companies often invent things out of profit.

    D. Nature inspires creativity.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

She was dancing. My crippled(跛脚的) grandmother was dancing. I stood in the living room doorway absolutely shocked.

I heard her sing when I opened the door but did not want to interrupt the beautiful song, so I just tiptoed (用脚尖走)to the living room. I looked at how her body bent beautifully, her arms greeting the sunlight that was pouring through the window. And her legs.... Those legs that had stiffly (僵硬地) walked with a cane (拐杖)now obeyed her perfectly with beautiful dancing shoes! No limping! No stiffness! Just beautiful, fluid motion! She used to be the pet of the dancing world but later she’d had her accident and it was all over. I had read that in an old newspaper.

She turned around in a slow circle and saw me standing in the doorway. Her song and beautiful movements ended. The sudden silence rang in my ears. Grandma looked so much like a kid caught with her hand in a cookie jar that I couldn’t help myself, and a slightly nervous laughter escaped. Grandma sighed and turned toward the kitchen. I followed her, not believing my eyes. She was walking with no difficulties in her beautiful shoes. We sat down by the table and cut ourselves big pieces of her delicious peach pie.

“So ....” I asked “ how did your leg heal (治愈) ?”

“To tell you the truth --my legs have been well all my life ,” she said.

“But I don’t understand!” I said. “Your dancing career..... I mean.... You pretended all these years?”

“Very much so,” Grandmother closed her eyes and tasted the peach pie, “and for a very good reason.”

    “What reason ?”

    Your grandfather .”

“You mean he told you not to dance ?”

“No, this was my choice. I am sure I would have lost him if I had continued dancing. I weighed fame and love against each other and love won.”
