  • 27、It’s always easier to say “Yes” because most of us want to please other people. Somebody asks you to go for a party but you have tests the next day, or to help them although you are busy at the moment, or to join the activities you have to interest in at all! Even though your heart is crying NO, you find the word “Yes“ coming out of your mouth. However, it usually results in anger-not only for the person who asked you, but also for yourself for not being strong enough.

Lisa Messenger, the Collective Hub CEO, said in her first few years of business, many people asked her to talk over a coffee. Actually, she usually ended up having 20 coffee meetings a week and that stopped her from doing business because she didn’t have time to do her own work.

Messenger finally learned to refuse like “No, I’m sorry, but I don’t have time. ”. She believes if you say“Yes”, you will regret later. Or your heart will be filled with guilt, fear or anger because you feel bad for agreeing to do something you never want to. So you need to be brave enough to say “No”when you’re asked at first.

Janine Garner, CEO of The LBD Group, believed we need to get very clear about our goals. Unless we work towards our goals, nobody else will care about our time. Garner said, “We may end up saying “Yes’ because we feel sorry for somebody who needs us. But we end up having that awful feeling in our heart. You can only achieve the best of you by stopping doing the things that take up your time and don’t add anything towards your goals. Take a good look at the time spent on others, which you really should spend on yourself. ”

【1】How does the writer lead in the topic?

    A.By giving examples.

    B.By telling a story.

    C.By making a survey.

    D.By asking questions.

A.She always agrees to help her workmates.

B.She knows how to refuse others politely.

C.She likes drinking coffee in her work time.

D.She feels angry when she can’t help others.

【3】Which opinion would Janine Gamer probably agree with?

A.Offering help is the key to making friends.

B.Helping others may make you successful.

C.You’d better say “No” bravely if necessary.

D.People who need us will care about our time.

【4】What’s the structure of the passage?

    A.

  • 28、A British friend told me he couldn't understand why Chinese people love eating sunflower seeds(嗑瓜子) so much. "I've met a lot of older Chinese and many have a crack in their front teeth; I believe that's from cracking the seeds," he said.

I had never noticed the habit, but once he mentioned it, I suddenly became more aware. I realized that whenever I'm watching TV or typing a report, I always start mindlessly cracking sunflower seeds. My friend doesn't like sunflower seeds, and, to him, it seems unnecessary to work so hard just to get one small seed.

When we were young, the whole family would usually get together for Chinese New Year. Then, we all lived close to one another, usually in a small city, and sometimes even neighbors would go door-to-door on Chinese New Year's Eve to check out what every household was making.

I remember my parents would be in the kitchen cooking. In the living room, a large table would already be laid out, complete with a fancy tablecloth, ready-made dumpling fillings, and dishes full of candy, fruits and sunflower seeds.

Some of the dishes were to be offered to our ancestors later, while others were for neighbors and children to eat before the evening feast. I must have learned how to crack sunflower seeds back then.

I don't think it's right to criticize one's choice in food or eating habits, no matter how strange they may seem.

It's not only in China. When I went abroad, I found people had all sorts of strange habits when it came to food. In Denmark, they put salted red fish on bread and eat it for dinner, no matter how much it ruins their breath. They think it's a delicacy, and it's connected with their culture. I think it's a wonderful tradition.

【1】What did the writer become aware of?

A.She had ever typed a report about sunflower seeds.

B.She ate various snacks while watching TV.

C.She has a habit of cracking sunflower seeds.

D.She damaged her teeth by eating sunflower seeds.

【2】What does the writer prove by mentioning Chinese New Year?

A.The traditions of celebrating it disappear.

B.Children can eat delicious food on that day.

C.The families would get together for it.

D.Eating sunflower seeds is related to it.

【3】What's the writer's attitude to Denmark's way of eating bread?

    A.Approving.

    B.Critical.

    C.Neutral.

    D.Doubtful.

【4】What lesson can we learn from the passage?

A.One kind of food doesn't necessarily suit everyone.

B.Eating habits come from a certain culture.

C.It is good to form healthy eating habits.

D.Changing your eating habits will change your life.

  • 29、He may be still young, but he may surprise you! If you ask around, many would say that the music world has a new leader—the real king is Jay Chou. As a child, Jay Chou was never too good at his subjects, and when he didn’t get into any college, a lot of people said that he won’t be very hopeful in life. His mum always worried about his future, but he never did. “I knew I still had music to depend on. For everything else, I always believe in myself, but it is for my musical talent that I’m so sure of myself,” he said. Growing up in a single-parent family, Jay lived a lonely childhood. Without many friends, he had a habit of day-dreaming, dreaming into his world of music.

So how did Jay get into music? At the age of three, he started learning to play the piano. His mother was very strict to make sure he practised hard. Later, he learned to play the cello (大提琴).

With all the musical talent, it isn’t surprising that Jay started out as a song writer. Since the age of sixteen, he has been writing songs for many of the most popular singers. Today, he has already written for some of the most popular Asian singers, including Coco Lee, Jacky Wu, etc.

It was only in 2000 that Jay put out his own album Jay. Jay’s soft and smooth voice is especially gentle and calm, making this first album an immediate hit. Each song in the album has its own, different style, and skillfully, Jay used his voice to suit each song’s character.

Lyrics of Jay’s songs all have a special touch. In his song Dad, I am Back, the subject is a broken family. “I heard that after war there is peace. Why do I always see my dad beating my mum? Since I was young, you told me to learn from you, use you as a model. So much pretense (借口). How do you expect me to be like you!”

【1】Which of the following statements is TRUE about Jay Chou?

A.He didn’t do well at school.

B.He worried about his future at school.

C.His father died when Jay was young.

D.He had many friends around him.

【2】Jay Chou got into music .

A.after he learned to play the piano

    B.at the age of sixteen

C.after he put out his first album

D.when he began to write songs

【3】The underlined word “touch” most probably means .

    A.an act of touching

    B.feeling by touching

    C.style or manner in art

    D.communication

【4】What do you know about the song Dad, I am Back?

    A.It’s about Jay’s own family.

B.It’s about a war which the father took part in.

C.It’s about a man who has a son back from a war.

D.It’s about a son’s demand for peace in the family.

五、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 32、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一个完整的短文。

It was 11 p.m. when Alex Conrad saw the woman on the Main Street Bridge. She was standing by the railing staring down at the rushing Chippewa River below. At her feet was what appeared to be a backpack.

Maybe she’s fishing, Conrad, then 20, thought as he continued driving his car to his home a short distance away. His friend’s car had been broken down in an accident with seriously damaged feet, so Conrad was making a quick stop to grab some tools before heading out to help.

Tools in hand, he climbed into his car. Instead of taking a shortcut, though, he chose to head back over the bridge. Something wasn’t right about that woman. Why would she be fishing this late at night-in May, when it’s still cold in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin?

As he crossed the quarter-mile-long bridge, Conrad saw the woman standing in the same spot. He pulled a U-turn and parked some 20 feet away with his hazard lights flashing, blocking one of the four lanes. In case there was trouble, he hoped another driver would take notice of it and help.

He stepped out of this car and got a clearer picture of the scene. The woman was in her 20s, dressed in pants and a heavy coat. What he’d thought was a backpack was in fact a rope by her feet. One end was tied to a bridge post. The other, around her neck.

“Hey, what’s going on?” Conrad called out. He didn’t recognize the rope because he didn’t want to show her that he knew exactly what was going on.

She spoke in a silent voice, but he kept asking for more details, eventually learning from her that she was going through a particularly rough time. She was jobless, not doing well in school-in short, life wasn’t working out as she’d hoped.

“Not everything goes as planned,” agreed Conrad. He started talking about the ups and downs he’d faced in his life. As he talked, he got closer with his every comforting word to the desperate woman.

    注意:

    1.续写词数应为150左右;

    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

When she mentioned that she was most sad about her car broken down, Conrad laughed.
