21、 The secret to living longer could be as simple as picking up your walking pace, according to a new study. Researchers from the University of Sydney found that walking at a brisk(快的) or fast pace was associated with a risk reduction of 24 percent for any cause of death.
This effect was even more obvious in older age group, with fast walkers over the age of 60 reducing their risk of death by a surprising 53 percent. Professor Emmanuel Stamatakis, who led the study, explained, “A fast pace is generally five to six kilometers per hour, but it really depends on a walker’s fitness levels; an alternatives indicator is to walk at a pace that makes you slightly out of breath or sweaty.”
In the study, the researchers looked at the results of 11 surveys from 1994 to 2008, in which participants recorded their walking pace, as well as age, sex and BMI. The analysis showed that walking at an average pace was associated with a 20 percent risk reduction for all-cause mortality(死亡率) compared with walking at a slow pace, while walking at a brisk or fast pace was associated with a risk reduction of 24 percent.
The researchers hope the findings will encourage the development of public health message about the benefits of walking pace. Professor Stamatakis added, “These analyses suggest that increasing walking pace may be a straightforward way for people to improve heart health and risk for premature mortality--- providing a simple message for public health campaigns to promote.
“Especially in situations when walking more isn’t possible due to time pressures or a less walking-friendly environment, walking faster may be a good option to get the heart rate up--- one that most people can easily add to their lives.”
【1】Who benefit most from walking fast?
A. Cancer sufferers. B. The elderly.
C. Those who have heart problems. D. Those who have high BMI.
【2】What decides how fast a person can walk according to Professor Stamatakis?
A. His/Her fitness levels. B. His/Her ages.
C. His/Her will. D. His/Her BMI.
【3】Why can walking fast reduce death rate?
A. Most people like doing it. B. It benefits the heart.
C. It reduces cancer mortality. D. Most people can do it easily.
【4】What is the main idea of the text?
A. Walking is easy exercise for people to do.
B. Walking has received little attention until now.
C. More and more people are walking fast for health.
D. A fast walking pace can benefit people’s health.
22、I have to say autism (自闭症) is something that many people know about. For example, some people think that autistic people do not know right from wrong, avoid attention and usually say the wrong thing at the wrong time and even be socially awkward and lack humor and empathy.
I do have my own obsessions with things like electronics and public transit, but that does not define me. Each of us is different and unique in our own way. People see it as a negative thing, as a disease, but it’s just another way of thinking and looking at the world. Think of it like comparing an Xbox and a PlayStation. They’re both highly capable consoles (主机) with different programming. But if you put your Xbox game in a PlayStation, it won’t work.
But the question is, am I really diseased if I just think differently? The main problem with living autistic in today’s society is that the world just isn’t built for us. There’re so many ways that we can get overwhelmed. We’re forced to hide our autistic traits (自闭症特征) like this, and it’s called masking. I mask so well sometimes that people don’t even know I’m autistic until I give them the big reveal.
I have to mask it in order to appear normal, but you may just smile. Because of that, I was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD自闭症谱系障碍). This diagnosis helps me and my friends and family to know how my mind works. My mother, my dad and my brother are all non-autistic. Despite all that, we respect each other as equals.
In his book “Neuro Tribes”, author Steve Silberman states that autism and other mental conditions should be seen as naturally human, naturally part of a human spectrum and not as defects. And this is something that I agree to completely.
I am not ashamed of my autism. The world could be designed to work better for autistic people. And I may not think like you, or act like you, but I am still human and I am not diseased.
【1】Why does the author compare an Xbox and a PlayStation in the second paragraph?
A.Because he wants to gain the difference between them.
B.Because he wants to say autism is not a negative thing.
C.Because he tries to deal with autism via Xbox and PlayStation.
D.Because he tries to find out the cause of Autism.
【2】What is Steve’s most likely attitude if he finds himself with autism?
A.He will refuse to face it.
B.He will ask a doctor for help.
C.He will feel sorry for himself.
D.He will take it easy.
【3】What can be learnt from the passage?
A.All the people with autism cannot be easily identified.
B.Autism exists with quiet people more often compared to active ones
C.Wearing masks is a good way to hide one’s autism.
D.The author desires to be equally treated in the family.
【4】What might the text come from?
A.An autobiography.
B.A survey report
C.A speech draft.
D.An anecdote.
23、 September is the month for fashion, with four international cities hosting the fashion week. All eyes will turn to New York, London, Milan and Paris this month to see which city puts on the best show.
New York
New York Fashion Week, or NYFW, kicks off on September 5th and runs for approximately eight days. NYFW is considered the most commercial and casual of the four. It is also the only event to allow some fashion school students to participate, bringing a fresh look to the runway.
London
London Fashion Week (LFW) comes on the heels of NYFW, starting on September 13th, and running through September 17th. Once considered a minor player among the Big Four, LFW can now command a list of big names as well as promising new designers. London fashion houses have a reputation for being very experimental and open to new ideas.
Milan
Fashion Week moves to Milan on September 17th. This beautiful Italian city is home to some of the biggest fashion houses and designers in the fashion world, including Armani and Prada. Milan’s fashion houses are known for offering glamorous(有魅力的), yet practical, options.
Paris

24、 Taking an afternoon nap could keep your brain sharp, a new study has found. Adults ages 60 and older who took afternoon naps showed signs of better mental mind compared to those who didn't nap, according to a study published in General Psychiatry earlier this week.
Researchers analyzed napping habits in 2, 214 Chinese people aged 60 and older and measured their cognitive abilities using several cognitive tests. Participants took the Mini-Mental State Examination and the Beijing version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, both of which test for memory, language and other cognitive abilities. In every category listed in the study, nappers scored statistically higher on average compared to those non-napping people. Researchers did not gather data from people under 60, so a correlation cannot be drawn between napping and younger generations.
Sleeping behaviors can be affected by a variety of factors, said Dr. David Neubauer, associate professor at Johns Hopkins University. Daily routines, medication use and sleep disorders can all play a role in how frequently someone takes a nap, he said.
Neubauer recommended taking a shorter “power nap" of up to 20 minutes to decrease the chances of transitioning into slow-wave sleep, which makes people feel dizzy when they wake up. Napping can be a healthy part of an older adult's day, Neubauer acknowledged, but make sure sleepiness isn't due to a treatable nighttime sleep disorder. "Older individuals who want to do all they can to preserve their cognitive functioning should put nighttime sleep in the first place."
【1】What is the age range of the participants?
A.Under 60.
B.From 60 to 70.
C.At 60.
D.60 and above.
【2】What has the participants tested in the research?

B.It Is No Good for the Young to Take a Nap
