二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   On July 24, 2020, Mike Stout launched his kayak(皮筏艇)just before 8:30 a.m. About 56 miles and 16.5 hours later, he landed on the sandy Michigan shore. It was his second time crossing Lake Michigan.

By chance, Stout said, he gave kayaking a try in 2016. Already in good physical condition, he considered kayaking a weekend escape. Then he was challenged by a client of his firm to think bigger. He did go big quickly. Weekend kayak trips were 40, 50 and 60 miles long over the next few months. Then his goal was to cross Lake Michigan that year. On August 3, Stout completed his first crossing of Lake Michigan in 15.5 hours. Since then, he’s finished countless long-distance trips on Minnesota rivers and lakes.

In heading back to Lake Michigan last summer, Stout thought he could become the first kayaker to make a round-trip crossing of the Great Lake. He felt capable. He’d put in 800 miles since March 1, 2020-when ice was still on the Minnesota River.

Stout wanted to do with manageable winds. Possibilities rose, only to become worse, the lake showing its mercurial nature. Stout realized a single crossing was his best hope. With local police informed of his plans and plenty of food aboard, Stout launched. His plan was to land on the Michigan shore 12.5 hours later. The lake thought otherwise. The winds and waves were working against him, too. Still, he was resolute. Finally he could hear waves crashing on shore.

“Never did I have a sense of doubt or fear or worry,” Stout said. Despite the constant, forceful wind, he said the crossing was easier than his others because of his experience. But no less meaningful. The stars, the chance to speak to the heavens, and the hope that his adventure would inspire others-all were fuel to finish.

【1】What can we infer about Stout from paragraph 2?

    A.He challenged his client.

B.He intended to escape real life.

    C.He was organized and determined.

D.He set a goal bigger than his capability.

【2】What forced Stout to change his journey into a single crossing in 2020?

    A.His physical state.

    B.The weather condition.

    C.The freezing water.

    D.Warning from local police.

【3】What does the underlined word “mercurial” in paragraph 4 mean?

    A.Changeable.

    B.Merciful.

    C.Perfect.

    D.Balanced.

【4】In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?

    A.Weather.

    B.Adventure.

    C.Geography.

    D.Entertainment.

  • 22、We know from research that putting pen to paper has many benefits that can support wellness in this time of digital overload. It has been scientifically proven to reduce anxiety, lift your mood and strengthen your immune system. 【1】 Close your laptop, grab a notebook and pen, open to a blank page, and write down whatever comes to mind.

I’ve been journaling for more than 25 years. When I write by hand, I release feelings and emotions that roll down the tip of the pen and onto the page. Turns out that the art of formatting each letter on the page helps you better keep the information you are recording. 【2】

【3】 There’s no need to worry about the device I am working on being charged up, or being distracted away from the very thing I am working on with the endless noise of incoming messages, or getting the required signal from the Internet.

One weekend, I sat for over an hour and hand wrote three birthday cards. I found myself lost in the writing space and totally engaged in the hand-lettering design that I created on the envelopes. 【4】That was a sharp contrast to the concentration of multitasking. Writing by hand builds your creative muscles, which don’t get stimulated in the same impactful way when you work on a keyboard.

The wise words of Nancy Olson show the benefits of writing by hand: “【5】 It transports us to unexpected places, on wings that require only a small amount of ink to keep them high, destination unknown. And in the process, the mindfulness that writing creates encourages calm and creativity.”

A.So why not give writing by hand a try?

B.Perhaps this is the true magic of the pen.

C.It can also help you organize the thoughts.

D.The act of journaling takes many people offline.

E.The power of focus in that moment was charming.

F.Writing spaces, no matter how short, are like a mindfulness.

G.I love the directness of putting pen to paper without being interrupted.

  • 23、   The minimalist lifestyle needs to be considered only after we own more than we need. Nowadays, the rapid development of the society has brought a lot of wealth and material possessions, which has become a burden for many. In addition, the fast-paced life we have today makes us busier than ever. Therefore, I think a minimalist lifestyle is necessary to help people ease their burden and focus on the best part of life.

Although I'm not a strict practitioner of minimalism, I do benefit a lot from a simpler life. When I got employed in 2018, I wasted my salaries on lots of clothes, shoes, cosmetics, books and food to enrich my life. However, piles of things made my room messy and a lot of stuff things had to be thrown away unused.

About one year ago, I laid my hands on a book named Danshari, which encourages people to cut out or throw away unnecessary things. Following the instructions, I started to change my lifestyle and surprisingly found out that my life is much better with less.

Another bad habit I have worked hard to change is spending too much time on my phone and iPad as a means to free myself from the work stress. A lot of my valuable time was wasted on various time-killing apps which didn't do much good to my self-improvement.

Adopting a simple life can be a bit challenging and needs constant effort. Here are some tips I find helpful. First, concentrate on things that are really important and meaningful. Second, access to information should be simple and well-targeted; reading books is a good alternative to meaningless social interaction and time-killing apps. Third, purchase fewer goods with better quality and tidy up your room regularly.

A minimalist lifestyle isn't equal to austerity (朴素).It's a habit we can form to simplify our life. With less desire both materially and mentally, there will be more room for self-improvement, happiness and inner fulfillment.

【1】What does the underlined part mean in Paragraph 3?

    A.recommended

    B.remembered

    C.wrote

    D.read

【2】What does a minimalist lifestyle mean?

A.Buying a lot of things we like.

    B.Concentrating ourselves on the jobs.

C.Forming a habit of simple life.

    D.Spending more time using apps.

【3】What would be the best title for this passage?

    A.Wealth Is Less

    B.Mess Is Simple

    C.More Is Happiness

    D.Less Is More

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Last April, Taylor got an unusual package in the mail. The postman carried the box to the door and handed it to Taylor directly. The box was peeping!

“What have you got there?” asked the postman.

“These are my chicks,” said Taylor.

The box was full of six small, fluffy chicks. They were each just one day old. When Taylor opened the box, the peeping got louder. Carefully, Taylor held one yellow chick in his hand. The chick was quiet and then closed its eyes to sleep. Taylor placed it gently under the heat light so it would stay warm. Taylor did this for each chick, and soon they were all sleeping together in their special box.

Taylor kept the chicks in his bedroom with the heat lamp running all day and all night. He would watch the chicks for hours when his homework was finished. Soon the chicks learned to peck at each other and to jump up and down. They also began to grow feathers, first on their wings and then on their tails. When all of their fluff was gone and their feathers in place, it was time to move the chicks to the hen house outside.

The hen house had three doors. There was a small door at the top of a slide that was just for the chickens. There was a big door in the back that was for people. Taylor used this door when he cleaned the hen house or filled the chickens’ food and water dishes. There was also a small door on the side of the hen house that led to the nesting boxes. These were small boxes that the chickens could sit in to lay their eggs. The special door would make it easy for Taylor to pick up the eggs without disturbing the hens.

Taylor checked the nesting boxes every day. Many times he saw the chickens sitting in the boxes, but there were no eggs. It would be many months before the chickens were old enough to lay eggs. Taylor was getting impatient. But his mother always taught him the importance of being patient, so he decided to wait.

    注意:

    1. 续写词数应为150左右;

    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

One day when he opened the door to the nesting boxes, Taylor saw one of the hens inside.
