26、 Time, wars and natural disasters have a bad effect on the artistic and cultural objects in the world. More than 1,000 years ago, a fire destroyed the Library of Alexandria in Egypt. In 1755, an earthquake destroyed Ribeira Palace in Lisbon, Portugal, along with artworks inside. In modern times, the Taliban destroyed the huge Bamiyan Buddhas in Afghanistan.
As we all know, museums play an important part in our daily lives. They keep evidence of culture and history and exhibit great works. A major goal of most museums in the world is to make sure that important historical objects do not disappear forever. The Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy, holds 1,250 pieces of ancient Greek and Roman sculptures. These objects have inspired artists and historians for many years. So the museum is working to make a complete and permanent(永久的) record of the artworks.
The project is an effort of both the museum and the scientists from Indiana University in the United States. The team is using technology to create digital copies(数字复制品) of the Uffizi’s ancient sculptures.
The process is called photogrammetry. At one time, this process was slow and expensive. But not anymore, said Professor Robert Frischer. He said photogrammetry is now much faster and cheaper. Now they can gather 3-D data(数据) on a life-size sculpture in half an hour and they can process the data just in a couple of hours.
The images allow the viewer to examine the sculpture from all sides. And when the viewer zooms in(用变焦距镜头放大), the image becomes clearer. The Uffizi hopes to have the collection completed and available on the Internet by 2020.

27、Fairs and theme parks never seem to lose their attraction. My kids love them as much as I do. Not everyone will agree with me though. My wife is terrified of anything more exciting than the merrygoround. So why do I love Blackpool’s Big One while she goes white on hearing the word “rollercoaster(过山车)”?
According to psychologists, it comes down to something called a “Type T” personality. Type T’s are thrillseekers who welcome the uncertainty of activities that most people would find hairraising. It seems some of us enjoy the physical sensations associated with fear: the adrenaline(肾上腺素) rush and the beating heart. Scary rides make us feel alive. Terrifying experiences encourage a sense of excitement once we’re back on solid ground though we only enjoy them, experts say, when we’re within a “protective frame” that assures us that deep down, we’re still safe.
Recent research has found certain genes(基因) which may be responsible for those of us with Type T personalities. Biochemists have separated a gene called DRD4 which seems more common in rollercoaster lovers like me.
New technologies have allowed engineers to design coasters that change speeds quickly, shoot up hundreds of feet into the air and make all sorts of twists. Research suggests that extreme fairground rides tend to appeal particularly to those of us who lead stressful, structured or controlled lives. It’s certainly true that roller coasters are a way of breaking out of the humdrum(乏味的) expectations of everyday life. Theme parks allow us to act like children again, to experience true excitement and behave a little wildly. Where else as an adult can you scream at the top of your lungs and throw your arms in the air without being sent for psychological evaluation?
If you’re looking for a great place this summer where you can get in touch with your inner risktaker, head for the nearest theme park. It’s a scream!

29、 Life can sometimes go_haywire rather like the feeling you get when you've lost control of your moving car. It's a feeling of complete helplessness and panic that makes us feel overwhelmed (被压垮的).
In most cases, there is a difference between our expectations and reality. The greater the difference, the greater the feeling is of being overwhelmed. This difference is often created when our expectations are too demanding or when reality changes in a way we did not expect. Think of the weather ruining your carefully made travel plans to get across the state. Think of that illness that made you stay in bed. While we may be feeling overwhelmed with everything going on in our lives right now, there are some steps we can take to regain a sense of control of our lives.
We all know we should control our emotion properly and we can be affected greatly when we are overwhelmed, but feeling overwhelmed is part of life. When we're feeling overwhelmed, it only means we are living, breathing human beings. For life is like a roller coaster ride with its ups, downs and turns. It's also like the season with its alternating periods of relative calm and periods of varying degrees of stress and anxiety. Sometimes we forget this.
No matter how much we try, we may not be able to control reality. But we can adjust our expectations to match reality. This may mean revising our goals and tasks or quitting projects. It may feel like failure in the moment, like giving up, but this ability is an opportunity to create success in the long term. Working with reality rather than against it can give us hope.
When we're feeling overwhelmed, we can easily fall into an allornothing (孤注一掷). We may overlook the things we manage to accomplish when we feel overwhelmed. But celebrating our small wins creates space for gratitude to take hold in our hearts. Trade our expectations for appreciation and our whole world changes in an instant. Celebrating wins (whatever size!) allows us to clearly see the progress we are making. Acknowledging our small bites and celebrating our wins however small makes us have a more accepting attitude toward the opportunities, the gifts and the joys in our lives.

A.Accept our failure and quit. B.Change our goal based on reality.
C.Try our best to change reality. D.Find a better way to realize our goal.
【4】What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Small bites are better than big wins.
B.We should show gratitude to others.
C.Celebrating small wins helps us make progress.
D.We should appreciate even small achievements of ours.

32、阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
Is early childhood education really necessary? Early childhood education primarily pays great attention to learning through playing to develop the child's physical, sensory, communicational and social development. Early childhood education has become a concern of the government, who pushes poor children to be formally trained before they are old enough for kindergarten.
There are good reasons for the government to push early childhood education. Studies have shown that orphaned (成为孤儿)children who did not receive good care and education become developmentally delayed causing failure in school, and even in life. Further studies show that poor children who take part in Head Start programs are more prepared for school, with much less possibility of ending up in Special Education classes, receiving public help or going to prison.
There are also negative parts to put a child in formal education programs too early. Time Magazine online explains that "the younger the child, the less his chances of catching up with first grade work. " I have personally witnessed (见证)many children of my generation who went to Head Start programs become frustrated and bored with school before they finished high school.
Actually, while early formal education of poor children does show great gains in the early primary years, studies also show that this head start is really a "false start", as the gains are lost in middle and high school years. It seems that environment is a bigger factor on life's success than early education. Head Start programs have not achieved its original goal in closing the achievement gap (差距) in poor and middle school children. Perhaps it is time to find other ways to close that gap.
