二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、Writing Movie Reviews

Whenever a new movie comes out, people will check the film reviews to decide if they should see it. Movie reviews can make or break a film’s box office sum. Therefore, you should be honest with your criticism or praise of the movie when writing a review.【1】No one likes to read long reviews that don’t stick to the subject. Of course, general movie knowledge is also a must.

【2】You should take a notebook with you and take notes about your impressions of the movie. Afterwards you can write a rough draft (草稿) of your review including the names of the director, actors and any other related information about the film.

After finishing writing a brief plot (情节) summary and a short opinion of the film, you can set about typing the details of each paragraph.

When you are typing the first paragraph, you should pay attention to the detailed information such as the name of the film, its stars, setting and genre (体裁).

However, in the second paragraph, your aim is to write a short plot summary.【3】Cover a major event, but be sure not to give the ending away.

In the third paragraph, you’d better focus on one element of the film, for example, acting, directing or cinematography (电影艺术). 【4】

While you are writing the fourth paragraph, the other aspect of the film mentioned in the rough draft is a must. The key of the last paragraph is to show your overall opinion of the film and your reaction to it. 【5】

A.It is important to express your support for the film.

B.You must search for the information about the film.

C.Before writing a review, you should first see the movie.

D.Analyze this aspect and discuss what is good or bad about it.

E.Your review should be specific and brief.

F.It should include details that give the audience an introduction to the film.

G.Here is where you recommend—or not recommend—the audience to see the movie.

  • 27、Running and walking are both excellent forms of exercise. Those who regularly do either usually have healthier hearts, stronger bones and lower body weights than those who do little exercise. But does it matter whether you spend time walking or running? Arguments can be made for both, and which is right for you depends on your goals and your present fitness level.

“The key difference between running and walking is how many calories you are burning—not per mile, but per minute of exercise says Paul D. Thompson, a doctor at Hartford Hospital.” “Running is a more-efficient (高效的) movement and it’s more demanding on the body, so it bums more calories per minute,” Thompson says. “But if you’ve got the time to walk long enough to bum the same amount of calories, then walking is fine.” That said, if your final goal is to lose weight, chances are that neither running nor walking alone is going to do the trick. Research has shown that it needs to be done along with calorie control.

In a recent study that analyzed data from nearly 50,000 people, researchers found that runners’ risk of heart disease was 4.5 percent lower than that of those who were inactive. But walkers who burned the same amount of calories daily had a risk level that was 9 percent lower than those who were inactive.

“Running gets the reputation (名声) for causing injuries because many people who are just starting to run try to do too much too quickly,” says Carol Ewing Garber, a professor at Columbia University. “And they often get injured as a result. If you want to progress from walking to running, do it slowly, gradually increasing your speed, distance and the frequency of your rums.

Running may be more highly-intense (高强度的) and calorie-burning than walking, but walking is a great way to ease into exercise and make sure you are staying physically active every day. The bottom line is that getting exercise of any kind is beneficial—if you keep doing it.

“The best exercise is the one you are going to do,” Thompson says. “There are extra benefits to be gained from running, but what’s most important from a public health point of view is that everyone gets out and does some kind of exercise?”

【1】What can we infer from Paragraph 2?

A.Exercise on its own is not enough to lose weight.

B.Walking is better than running for busy people.

C.Running can reduce people’s fat quickly and safely.

D.Walking is more demanding on the body.

【2】What can we learn from the recent study?

A.Running bums fewer calories than walking.

B.Walkers are more likely to get heart disease than runners.

C.Walking can reduce the risk of having heart disease.

D.Inactive people are free from heart problems.

【3】Which of the following would Thompson most probably agree with?

    A.We’d better walk slowly.

    B.Just walk before you run.

    C.We’d better choose to run.

D.Any exercise is better than none.

  • 28、It can be a real struggle trying to learn a new language. I had always enjoyed learning languages in school, but only recently did I start learning German. I found that I could understand and learn individual words easiIy, but when it came to literature, I really struggled. That was when my tutor at university suggested reading some children's books printed in the target language.

At first, I felt a bit silly going on a hunt for a book designed for someone half my age, lout then I realised that everyone has to start somewhere. As children, we are given these basic texts to familiarise our brains with certain vocabulary and writing structures, and from there, we can learn and develop. I started with books which are taught to us as children in the UK.1 managed to find Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens and James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl.

The beauty of reading books that were introduced to you as a child is that you are already familiar with the plot. As a result, you can work out some of the definitions of words with your prior knowledge of the story. At first, I used to read with the book in one hand and a dictionary in the other, but this method did not work well for me. The method I would recommend is to read a chapter of your chosen children’s book and at the end of that chapter, highlight the words you do not know and then look up the definitions. If you can wait a bit before you use a dictionary, you may be surprised what you can get merely from the context of the sentence in the story. Additionally, a lot of children's books have pictures which may give you a clue as to what or to whom the passage is referring.

【1】Why was the author advised to read children’s books?

A.Because she was weak in reading great works.

B.Because she was slow to learn language.

    C.Because she liked children's literature.

D.Because she couldn't remember any words.

【2】What can kids get from childrens' books according to the passage?

    A.Vocabulary and listening skills.

    B.Learning methods.

    C.Words and structures.

    D.Designing skills.

【3】What causes the author feel surprised while reading childrens’ books?

A.Grasping the context from the pictures.

B.Looking up the definations of words from a dictionary.

C.Getting familiar with the plots of the story.

D.Understanding the words simply from the context.

【4】What can be the best title of the passage?

    A.Reading Children's Books

    B.The Way of Learning Languages

    C.The Method of Using Dictionary

    D.My Good Reading Habits

  • 29、   Your body, which had close relations with the food you eat, is the most important thing you own, so it needs proper treatment and proper nourishment (营养). The old saying “ An apple a day keeps the doctor away” is not as silly as some people think.

In Times of Crists, We Need Classical Music

It’s still lying in front of me on my desk. The booklet, entitled Time for Outrange(愤怒) , was written by the 93-year-old French diplomat(外交官) Stephane Hessel. “The power of money,” Hessel says, filled with anger, “has never been as great and selfish and 1 as it is now.”

But what does the outrage of this Frenchman have to do with classical music and , ultimately, with me, music director of the Orchestre Symphenique de Montreal(蒙特利尔交响乐团) ?

A lot, I, too, am outraged by the direction of industrial society, with materialism and consumerism leading the way. I want to show that, because of its powerful impact, classical music can play a(n) 2 role right now.

We all sense that our society is experiencing an almost revolutionary 3. Life is getting faster, competition is fiercer and social cohesion(凝聚力) is reducing. Like most people, I have no idea how liberty and civil rights would develop in the era of globalization and ever-evolving technological advancement.

But I see this as an opportunity for a(n) 4 to classical music. The great symphonies of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven are not museum pieces we should listen to only if we want to 5 ourselves with some music history. Now are they a decoration or a relaxation exercise for the quickened pace of life.

They are more than what a radio station for classical music once promised - “your oasis(绿洲) of well-being.” They are timeless compositions that 6 all the uncertainties and insecurities of this new period. They can support us in our search for meaning. Beethoven, for example, was convinced that man had the capacity to change for the better and to go throughout life. This is why there is so much hope in his music. His symphonies was mean to 7 people forward.

Classic music 8 our senses and emotions in such a way that we were thrown back onto ourselves. It 9 to listeners to make use of their own reason and reflect on their actions. Music’s sole purpose is to be experienced. That experience, in turn, is why music can change our perceptions(认知) of ourselves and thereby our interactions with others.

10 to explain this powerful impact of music will always remain unsatisfying, but this much is certain: aesthetic(审美的) experiences can transform people.
