二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、Soft cries came from the back seat about halfway through road trip home. Allison heard her 2-year-old daughter’s voice asking: “Ruff? Ruff?” She suddenly realized her daughter’s favorite toy dog, Ruff, had been left behind at the Doubletree, a hotel in the capital. Allison said she felt terrible about forgetting her daughter Juniper’s comfort companion. As soon as the family unloaded the car that night, she called the hotel and learned that Ruff was in the lost-and-found and would be mailed to them in a day or two.

Three days later, a box arrived at the Allison’s home addressed to Juniper. Inside, next to Ruff, she found a tin of cookies, a note and some photos, which showed how Juniper’s toy dog had spent her solo vacation at the Doubletree. “Dear Juniper,” the note read, “thanks for letting us borrow Ruff for a day! Don’t worry, she didn’t work hard and we gave her plenty of playtime! Hope you and Ruff visit us again soon! Love, Doubletree Team.” The funny photos were taken by front-desk clerk Maria. The photos showed her talking on the phone, using a computer, hanging out at the hotel swimming pool and sleeping in the middle of a king-size bed.

“Juniper couldn’t stop laughing as she looked at the photos,” said Allison, who runs a photography business. “The love and care they put into doing this is unbelievable. A lot of times, when kids lose their toys or toy animals at a hotel, they might never see them again.”

She decided to write a post about the hotel’s kind deed on the Internet. She included photos she had taken of Juniper after she was reunited with her dog. “I wanted to do something to cheer people up during the pandemic (疫情), and it seems to have worked,” she said. “People started sharing it almost immediately.”

  • 27、Big Bubbles

We all love bubbles. They float through the air like little glass balls, shining with colors and light. You can make bubbles with dishwashing soap and a paper cup. Soap makes the water stick together in a round shape. The bubbles you blow will be really big!

    Here’s what you will need:

    • A large bowl • A spoon • 4 cups of water

    • 5 tablespoons of dishwashing soap

    • A pair of scissors

    • A paper cup

Follow these steps(步骤) to make big bubbles:

    1. Fill the bowl with the water.

    2. Add the dishwashing soap into the water and mix them together.

    3. Cut a small hole in the bottom of the paper cup. This is the hole that you will blow through.

    4. Dip the top rim of the cup into the soapy water. Slowly lift the cup out of the bowl. There should be a thin “window” of soapy water filling the open space of the cup.

    5. Slowly put your mouth up to the hole in the bottom of the cup. Gently blow air through the hole. A big bubble will rise into the air! For  a party, you can make a bowl of soapy water and a paper cup bubble-blower for each friend. If your friends do step 4 and 5 again and again, just think of how many bubbles you can make together!

1What is the passage mainly about?

A.People can make bubble-blowers. B.Bubbles are shining with colors.

C.It is easy to make big bubbles. D.Everyone loves big bubbles.

2Which step tells you to add dishwashing soap into the water?

3To blow more bubbles, which two steps should you do again?

    A.1 and 2. B.2 and 3. C.3 and 4. D.4 and 5.

  • 28、   The negative health impacts of plastic on both wildlife and humans have been well documented. Recycling contributes to settling the problem. However, the material coming from the plastic recycled using the traditional technology is of lower quality and can only be used a few times for items like clothing or carpets before it has to be thrown away.

Now, French start-up Carbios wants to help alleviate the world’s plastic pollution with a bacterial enzyme (细菌酶) that “eats” PET—the most plentiful plastic used to produce packaging and plastic bottles. The enzyme is able to downgrade 90% of a ton of plastic in less than 10 hours. And the resulting material can be used to create anything and, more importantly, can be continuously recycled.

To break down the plastic, the waste is placed in a reactor with water and the enzyme and heated for 16 hours at 65. The resulting mix is then filtered (过滤) and purified (净化). This allows for the recovery of the building blocks that make up PET. These building blocks are then remade into new plastic and transformed into bottles and other items, without having to use more resources.

The recycling process will be tested in a larger range at a new, bigger facility in Lyon, France, by the end of 2021. Once all the problems have been removed, Carbios hopes to bring the technology on the market by 2024.

Though Carbios’s recycling technique will certainly help reduce plastic pollution, Stephan believes it is only part of the solution. We can only win the battle if we do a better job of ensuring that plastic waste does not end up in the environment or in landfills. So the next time you use a plastic bottle, be sure to make the extra effort to place it in a recycling bin.

1What does the underlined word “alleviate” in paragraph 2 mean?

    A.Cut down. B.Reflect on.

C.Keep records of. D.Watch out for.

2What is the main characteristic of the material produced by enzyme?

A.It can resist bacteria. B.It can stand high temperatures.

C.It can be sustainably used. D.It is harmless to the environment.

3What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us?

A.The sources of the bacterial enzyme.

B.The process of producing plastic bottles.

C.How the bacterial enzyme breaks down PET.

D.How waste plastic is recycled with the bacterial enzyme.

4Which statement agrees with the text?

A.The new technology has been put to wide use.

B.Traditional plastic is easily storable and affordable.

C.The promising enzymes technology is in the experimental stage.

D.Bacterial enzymes will completely solve the problem of plastic pollution.

  • 29、Whenever we talk about holidays, my mother teases my sister and me about how we “make out like robbers.” She is referring to the fact that we are half Jewish and half Indian, so we receive gifts on both the. festivals of lights. Hanukkah and Diwali. Though my mother teases us, I do not mind getting two sets of gifts!

Hanukkah is celebrated on the 25th day of the Jewish month. which is usually sometime in December. On Hanukkah, like most Jewish families. we light a menorah and say a prayer each night. We also say a special prayer on the first night. After that, it is a tradition for my sister and me to do ‘hot and cold’, for our hidden Hanukkah gifts. When we walk towards the gift, our parents say ‘hot’ and when we walk further away, they say ‘cold’. We each receive one present every night of Hanukkah. Another part I like about this holiday is seeing family members who we do not see often. My aunt usually stays for a few days, and we sometimes visit other relatives.

Diwali is celebrated on the 13th day of the dark fortnight of the month of Ashwin(October / November). To celebrate Diwali, my family does a pooja, or prayers, in honor of the goddess Lakshmi. Since she is the goddess of wealth and prosperity, the pooja includes washing silver coins in milk and water. In India, people decorate their houses with lamps, similar to the way you might light up your house for Christmas. My family just places a few candles outside We also set off firecrackers, which is my favorite part. We often do this activity with friends to add to the excitement.

Both holidays have different histories and stories We celebrate them in different ways, yet they both have the same meaning. They both translate into. Festival of Lights, and they both mean family and presents for me!

【1】Why does the author receive gifts on both Hanukkah and Diwali?

A.Because he lives in a rich family.

B.Because he lives in two different countries.

C.Because his parents like celebrating their different cultures.

D.Because his parents like spending money buying gifts for them.

【2】What does the underlined phrase “hot and cold” in Paragraph 2 refer to?

    A.A kind of Hanukkah game.

    B.A kind of Hanukkah gift.

    C.A can of festival drink.

    D.A riddle written on lights.

【3】we can learn from the text that Hanukkah and Diwali .
