  • 22、When I was a kid, I got interested in astronomy (天文学). I often watched northern lights in my hometown in Lapland. I used to wonder how big the universe might be and what are “behind” the stars. But as I grew up and finally went to college, I hardly had any time to develop my hobby because of too much homework. It was in 2009 that I rediscovered astronomy. I found an astronomy magazine in a library and immediately I got interested in astronomy again.

When I start reading astronomy books and magazines, I start finding out how many interesting things there are outside the planet. I realize that the information I am reading, hearing and watching opens a door to a huge world of interesting things.

However, I do not have much time for my hobbies. Many times I would like to observe an object in the night sky, but I am working or I have to look after my kids. So I share my hobbies with my kids. I encourage them to observe the stars together with me. I read kids’ astronomy books for them and tell them about the moon, stars, the sun and many other interesting things. We all find it interesting at the same time.

I enjoy astronomy as a hobby and I hope other parents like me can read books and magazines about it. Just imagine that you and your family sitting together watching the stars and talking in the yard on a summer night! How cool it will be!

    I love to help

At least once a week after school I go to my school’s library to help tutor students in math. I check in at the main desk, and I pick up my badge: “Math Tutor”. It is quite an old badge, which some tutor made by hand years ago. I sit down at a desk, and I take out my own work. Some days are quite slow, and I might as well get a little homework done while I’m waiting for someone to help.

Sometimes, there is more than one person who requires help, and I just sit at the head of a table and supervise people doing their homework. I answer any questions that come up along the way. But I mostly work on my own assignments, and they ask me for help whenever they need it. I walk them through a problem, and they finish the rest of it themselves.

However, other times, there is just one person that comes to me, and they are in need of more than just homework help. Perhaps they have missed a couple days of school, or they simply don’t get the concepts that the teacher is teaching, and need extra help. I sit down with them, and talk to them about their problem. As I slowly go over each problem, I love watching the expressions on their faces change from frustration and confusion to understanding and triumph.

I love being a volunteer tutor because of the wonderful, warm feeling I get when I know that I was able to help someone understand or learn something new. I hope to continue doing it for the rest of high school.

  • 24、Trump smoked heavily. He got lung cancer when he was sixty years old. He only had six months to live. His chance for recovery was 1 in 500.He lived in Baldwin Street, in New Zealand, a very special street in the world. What he did with cancer was also special.

He could see the worry, depression and anger in his life. He wondered, “If illness can be caused by negativity(消极性), can wellness be created by positivity?”

He decided to make an experiment of himself. Laughing was one of the most positive activities he knew. He watched all the funny movies he could find. He read funny stories. He enjoyed talk shows and cross talks. He asked his friends to call him whenever they said, heard or did something funny. And he also told jokes to his friends and his family. He even built a club called “Laugh and Life”.

He fully recovered from his illness and lived another 20 happy and healthy years in the end. He thought his success was because of the love of his family and friends, and laughing.

So, if you like laughing, do it as often as you can in your life. If you don't like laughing, then take your medicine—laugh anyway.

七、短文填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 25、B)   请根据短文内容及首字母提示,填写所缺单词,并将答案填写在答题卡标号为 66-75 的相应位置上。

Do you know  what  makes  you  happy?  Write  a  list  of  all  the  things  that  make  you  happy.  If  you  s1your time doing all these fun things, you’ll be really happy.

For most people,  fun isn’t  e2for real happiness. Paul Dolan wrote a book called Happiness by Design. He thinks happiness comes from both pleasure and  p3. If most of the things on your list are about pleasure, that is what you think makes you happy. But you also need activities with purpose.

If  you’re a student,  your “j4” is studying and passing exams. It’s easy to do well in subjects you like, but subjects you don’t like are less motivating ( 激 励 的 ). They’re not fun for you, but you have to studythem so you need to f5purpose. An “A” in a subject you hate won’t help the world. But can you be part of a study team with friends? Each person can study one part until they understand it and then teach it to the

r6of the group. The purpose becomes helping the team.

Go back to your list of things that make you happy. How many of them are activities that bring  purpose? Can you a7any more examples? Remember, some activities might bring both pleasure and purpose.

Now  you need to design a happy life.  Paul Dolan b8people should “decide, design, do”. First decide what brings  you pleasure and/or purpose  --- that  means your two lists. T9, don’t just think about these activities,  fill your life with them. For example,  you love riding a bike but n10have time to do it. So, ride to school or the library or the shops. Some parts of our lives are good or bad luck, but we can still design the rest to make more happiness.
