二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Parents have a new tool in the battle over screen time, with an Australian app asking kids to solve one math or English problem before they can unlock their phones.

Sydney entrepreneurs Issac and Ann Elnekave turned their bright idea into an app called 1Question and tried it on their 16-year-old daughter Alyssa.

“At first I wasn’t sure about it,” Alyssa said. “I didn’t want my friends to blame me if their parents made them get it. But once I started using it, I realized it doesn’t take that long to answer a question and it’s actually pretty cool.”

Research has shown almost half of children aged between 6 and 16 either have a mobile phone or have access to one. The majority play games or use apps like YouTube for an average of about five hours a day. “ The 1Question app creates micro learning moments.” Mrs. Elnekave said. “We created a solution that blends screen time and study.”

Parents can download the $ 2.99 a month app onto their child’s phone, select their grade and curriculum subjects, then monitor each time their child correctly answers a question to open a game or app such as YouTube.

“We designed the user experience to be really simple, but underneath the hood is our incredibly intelligent AI engine,” Mr. Elnekave said. “As your child learns, so does the AI, which works out each child’s areas of strength and weakness and creates a customized path for their learning”

The app has a base of 12,000 questions developed by teachers using the Australian, British and American curriculum designed for primary school children.

【1】What do we know about the 1Question app?

    A.It is free of charge.

B.It contains questions suitable for high school students.

C.Children need to answer more than one question correctly to unlock their phones.

D.It serves to help children learn something useful during their screen time.

【2】What did Alyssa think about this App?

A.She didn’t like it because she was afraid that her classmates would blame her.

B.She liked it because it was interesting.

C.She thought it actually pretty good.

D.She thought it was terrible to take too long to answer a question.

【3】What does paragraph4 mainly talk about?

    A.The popularity of mobile phones.

B.The influence of phone games on children.

C.The function and significance of the 1Question app.

D.The way to install the 1Question app.

【4】What is the purpose of the writer?

    A.To introduce a useful app.

B.To blame parents shouldn’t allow children to use phones.

C.To call on parents to buy this app.

D.To show this app is powerful.

  • 22、An idea that started in Seattle's public library has spread throughout America and beyondThe concept is simple: help to build a sense of community in a city by getting everyone to read the same book at the same time.

In addition to encouraging reading as a pursuit (追求) to be enjoyed by all, the program allows strangers to communicate by discussing the book on the bus, as well as promoting reading as an experience to be shared in families and schoolsThe idea came from Seattle librarian Nancy Pearl who launched (发起)the "If All of Seattle Read the Same Book " project in 1998Her original program used author visits, study guides and book discussion groups to bring people together with a book, but the idea  has since expanded to many other American cities, and even to Hong Kong.

In Chicago, the mayor appeared on television to announce the choice of To Kill a Mockingbird as the first book in the "One Book, One Chicago" programAs a result, reading clubs and neighborhood groups sprang up around the cityAcross the US, stories emerged of parents and children reading to each other at  night and strangers chatting away on the bus about plot and character

The only problem arose in New York ,where local readers could not decide on one book to represent the huge and diverse populationThis may show that the idea works best in medium-sized cities or large towns, where a greater sense of unity(一致)can be achieved .Or it may show that New Yorkers rather missed the point ,putting all their energy and passion into the choice of the book rather than discussion about a book itself.

Ultinatelas Nancy points out, the level of success is not measured by how many people read a book, but by how many people are enriched by the process, or have enjoyed speaking to someone with whom they would  not otherwise have shared a word.

1What is the purpose of the project launched by Nancy?

    A. To invite authors to guide readers.

    B. To encourage people to read and share.

    C. To involve people in community service.

    D. To promote the friendship between cities.

2Why was it difficult for New Yorkers to carry out the project?

    A. They had little interest in reading.

    B. They were too busy to read a book.

    C. They came from many different backgrounds

    D. They lacked support from the local government

3According to the passage, where would the project be more easily carried out?

    A. In large communities with little sense of unity

    B. In large cities where libraries are far from home

    C. In medium-sized cities with a diverse population

    D. In large towns where agreement can be quickly reached

4According to Nancy, the degree of students of the project is judged by

    A. the careful selection of a proper book

    B. the growing popularity of the writers

    C. the number of people who benefit from reading.

    D. the number of books that each person reads.

  • 23、People should listen to music for no more than one hour a day to protect their hearing, the World Health Organization (WHO) suggests.

It says 1.1 billion teenagers and young adults are at risk of permanently damaging their hearing by listening to “too much, too loudly”.

It said audio devices(音频设备), concerts and bars were causing a “serious threat”.

WHO figures show 43 million people aged 12-35 have hearing loss and the number is increasing. In that age group, the WHO said, half of the people in rich and middle-income countries were exposed to unsafe sound levels from personal audio devices. Meanwhile 40% were exposed to damaging levels of sound from clubs and bars.

The proportion of US teenagers with hearing loss went from 3.5% in 1994 to 5.3% in 2006.

“What we’re trying to do is raise awareness of the problem that is not talked about enough, but has the potential to do a lot of damage that can be easily prevented,” said Dr Etienne Krug, the WHO’s director for injury prevention.

The full report argued: “While it is important to keep the volume down, limiting the use of personal audio devices to less than one hour a day would do much to reduce noise exposure.”

Dr Krug said: “That’s a rough recommendation, it is not by the minute, to give an idea to those spending 10 hours a day listening to an mp3-player. But even an hour can be too much if the volume(音量)is too loud.”

【1】What might be the main cause of hearing loss according to the passage?

    A. Listening to music frequently.

    B. Listening to music at concerts.

    C. Listening to too much and too loud music.

    D. Listening to music from poor audio devices.

【2】How many people aged 12-35 were most likely to suffer from hearing loss according to WHO?

    A. 3.5%. B. 5.3%.   C. 40%.   D. 50 %.

【3】Which of the following ideas would Dr Etienne Krug agree with?

    A. Safe noise exposure is based on the limitation to both volume and time.

    B. One hour of exposure to loud music a day will do no damage to hearing.

    C. With proper volume, one can listen to an mp3-player for 10 hours a day.

    D. It will be OK to be exposed to loud noise from personal audio devices.

【4】What might be the best title for the passage?

    A. Away from music

    B. How to enjoy music

    C. Risk of hearing loss

    D. Warning of hearing damage

  • 24、NASA has launched a special spacecraft called Lucy. Lucy will take a 12-year trip to learn more about a group of asteroids(小行星) known as the Trojans.

Most of them are found in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. The first asteroid that Lucy will study lies in the asteroid belt. But the other seven asteroids, known as Trojan asteroids, are in an area of space that hasn't been visited before. Though the asteroids are very far away from Jupiter, to scientists’ surprise, they follow the same path that Jupiter takes around the Sun. Some travel ahead of Jupiter, others behind it.

In 1974,scientist Donald Johanson, with one of his students, discovered a 3.2 million-year-old skeleton(骨骼) of a human ancestor. He named the skeleton Lucy after the hit song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”. The current Lucy mission is named for the skeleton. The Lucy skeleton changed the way scientists understood human history. Scientists hope that studying these asteroids will help lead to similar changes in our understanding of how the solar system began around 4.5 billion years ago.

Lucy will fly near the first asteroid Donaldjohanson in 2025.To get there, Lucy must first go around the Earth twice. It will use the Earth's gravity like a slingshot(弹弓) to send itself out through the asteroid belt. From there, Lucy will continue on to visit a group of five Trojan asteroids that orbit the Sun ahead of Jupiter and study them in 2027 and 2028.Lucy will study these asteroids as it flies past them, sending pictures back to NASA.

Around 2030, it’ll make another return trip around the Earth. It’ll be the first spacecraft that’s gone to the outer part of the Solar System and returned. The final trip around the Earth will send it back out to the far side of the Sun by 2033 to study the two Trojan asteroids that orbit the Sun behind Jupiter.

    【1】What’s special about Trojan asteroids?

A.They are in the asteroid belt.

    B.They protect the solar system.

C.They share the orbit with Jupiter.

D.They are often visited by spacecrafts.

【2】Why does the author mention Donald Johanson?

A.To show he launched the Lucy mission.

B.To explain the value of the Lucy mission.

C.To say he named the mission after an asteroid.

D.To describe the process of discovering asteroids.

【3】What will Lucy do before visiting the two Trojan asteroids behind Jupiter?

    A.Circle the Earth three times.

    B.Follow Jupiter to find them.

    C.Send its pictures to NASA.

D.Fly past the Sun in 2030.

【4】What’s the best title for the text?

A.Lucy Will Cross the Asteroid Belt

    B.Lucy Looks for Trojan Asteroids

C.Lucy Finds the Secret of Asteroids

    D.Lucy Will Visit Eight Asteroids
