26、For years, airlines, touring companies, and tourism boards have used VR technology to market destinations to potential customers. Now, “the impact of COVID-19 may allow it to shake off its image of being a trick to attract public attention, says Ralph Hollister, a tourism analyst at Global Data and author of a report on the VR travel industry.
Virtual travel experiences are seeing a sudden rise in popularity. Still, there’s a big gap between using VR to “try before you buy” and treating virtual reality like the destination itself. Basically, the technology isn’t ready yet. 360-degree VR videos are usually experienced through a headset or an app. The headsets are expensive, heavy, and uncomfortable to wear for more than 30 minutes. The apps have none of these problems but simply aren’t as impressive.
Limited sensations are another problem. The videos focus on sounds and sights but can’t do much with smell, touch, or taste, and VR experiences tend to only be a few minutes long—hardly the equivalent (相等物) of a two-week vacation in Spain.
Erick Ramirez, a philosopher at Santa Clara University who studies VR, compares the future of virtual travel to a classic thought experiment: Imagine that you could connect yourself up to an “experience machine” and simply feel happy forever. Philosopher Robert Nozick, who developed the experiment, thinks nobody would want to be hooked up to (连接到) such a thing. Ramirez says “I do think that there are some kinds of tourist experiences where the value in them is in the doing, not just in the seeing and hearing, and it will be tough for VR to copy.”
If the technology becomes complex enough, those aiming to reduce our carbon footprint might prefer this form of escape. VR travel does bring parts of the world to people who are physically unable to visit certain landmarks. Most of all, it could help bring people to places that are otherwise inaccessible.

27、It used to be mostly the military that used small, unpiloted aircraft, called "drones". The little planes were very costly. But as they have dropped in price more people have begun to use them. Rescue workers and farmers are among the new users.
The fast rate of the development of computer technology, image sensing devices, satellite navigation and smartphones has led to lower-priced drones. Researchers and developers have learned how to build smaller and less-costly drones, Moviemakers are using drones to film from the sky. Historians use them when they explore ancient buildings. Rescue workers use them to look for people. And now farmers are using them to watch over their crops.
Romain Faroux is a French businessman who starts companies. His father was a farmer. He believed drones could help farmers. He helped create a company that developed a small drone that could be controlled by people on the ground. They called it "Agridrone". It uses a special "optical sensor" to examine crops. The technology used is similar to that used by smartphones-except it has wings. A computer program directs the drone to fly over the crops. The sensor on the drone records four different-colored "bands" of sunlight that are reflected off the crops.
Jean-Baptiste Bruggeman is a farmer. He says the drone flies over his crops at different times of the season. He says this provides a lot of information about his crops. The drone pictures show him the exact amount of fertilizer the crops need. It also shows exactly where the fertilizer is needed.
Romain Faroux says farmers use information collected by the Agridrone to place fertilizer only in areas where it was needed. This saves money and reduces pollution. Before they used the drones, farmers would put the same amount of fertilizer everywhere. Drones also save time because farmers can examine up to three hectare in about a minute.
【1】Why do rescue workers and farmers begin to use drones?
A.Drones can monitor their cattle.
B.Drones' prices have dropped.
C.Drones can help them get more business.
D.Drones' sizes become smaller.
【2】What can the drones developed by Romain Farour's company do?
A.Explore ancient buildings.
B.Put fertilizer on the crops.
C.Help farmers examine their crops.
D.Help rescue workers look for people.
【3】What can the sensor on the drone do?
A.Help the sunlight shine the crops.
B.Direct the plane to fly over the crop.
C.Examine the different colors of the.
D.Record the sunlight reflected off the crops.
【4】According to the text, the use of the drone is _________.
A.environment-friendly
B.wasteful
C.costly
D.safe
28、Open-air jazz, locally-grown vegetables, Focaccia bread, goat cheese, and Narcan training all competed against a rainstorm last Tuesday at Westside Farmers Market’s annual College Night.
And the vendors (商贩) held out pretty well. Even as the raindrops intensified, folks kept exploring the tables stationed in the parking lot of St. Monica Church. Among the crowd were a number of college students, mostly from the University of Rochester, likely brought in by the College Night awards being offered — a five-dollar token (购物券), a handbag, and a prize raffle entry, all free of charge.
Now in its 15th year, Westside volunteer Jackie Farrell said the market partners merely with local farms, businesses, and community groups to populate its tables. “Our mission really is to serve the people in the community, getting them health and nutrition information, and connecting them to the farmers who grow the produce,” Farrell said, “Everything has to be local. It’s a producer-only market, so you have to grow or produce whatever you’re going to sell here.” Those producers had diverse offerings. Vegetables, of course, were abundant but sellers also pushed cheeses, spreads, bread, prepared pasta dishes, and much more.
The community groups offering information were diverse too. Recovery All Ways, a local nonprofit with a stated “mission to support anyone affected by substance use disorder” handed out Narcan and trained people in its use. Their station was next to a Moms Demand Action tent, where staffers provided information on physical safety. SNAP-Ed nutrition and benefits educators also ran a table.
The activities of the stations were scored by live music. The University’s Midnight Ramblers performed, and a local jazz band played away as the rain showers started rolling in.
Farrell hoped that the College Night promotion would help make students more comfortable crossing the bridge into the Rochester community. “We love college students, and we keep encouraging them that all they have to do is go across the bridge.”
【1】What attracted college students to the College Night?
