Tim Linhart is an American ice sculptor（雕刻家）. He made a small orchestra（管弦乐队）of ice instruments. The performance has brought people happiness for more than 20 years. So it is popular with people of different ages.

The name of Linhart’s orchestra is Ice Music. The instruments are very fragile. Even the warmth of a musician’s breath can cause the sound to change. So it’s necessary to make the instruments produce the correct sounds before playing the next piece of music. The musicians keep available instruments on hand in case one breaks, but repairing it with just a bit of water is OK.

Most performances by Ice Music take place in a specially created concert hall in Lulea in northern Sweden. The hall can hold at most 200 people and the temperature inside is about -5℃. Listeners should wear thick clothes. Body temperature and breathing can break the instruments up, so Linhart designed the hall as two ice houses with a stage（舞台）in the middle. A hole above each side of the listeners allows warmth to go in.

Because the concert hall melts in the warm season, people build it again every winter. Ice Music concerts take place in other places around the world. Linhart built an 80-foot-high hall in the Italian Alps not long ago. When winter ends, Linhart tries to keep some of the instruments for the next year’s performances.

Mind Maps

Mind maps are a great way of showing a picture of information that you need to learn. You can use mind maps for all kinds of learning. They work very well for vocabulary (词汇) when you are learning a new language.

How to draw a mind map?
