Some people have a very poor sense of direction. Unluckily,I am one of them. I have visited a place many times but I may still get lost there the next time.

When I was a little girl,I never dared to ask strangers the way. And so I used to walk round in circles and hope that by chance I would get to the place I was going to.

Now,I am  no longer too shy to ask people for directions, but I often receive helpless or even wrong information. So I try to avoid giving people wrong directions.  If anyone ever asks me the way somewhere,I would say, "Sorry,  I am a stranger here."

Once on my way to work I was stopped by a man. He asked me if I could tell him the way to the Friendship Building. I gave him my usual reply. But just as I walked on only a few steps, I realized that he had asked the way to my office building. However, I had no time to turn back and look for him. I was rushing to meet with someone at my office and I didn't want to keep him waiting.

When I just got to my office,  the secretary showed in the man who had asked me for directions. Imagine how embarrassed I was and how surprised he was when we saw each other at the first sight!

1The writer always refuses to give people directions because .

    A. she's a stranger to the city

2A man stopped the writer on the way to .

    B. ask for the time

    C. make friends with her

    D. ask for the direction

3The word "embarrassed" in the last paragraph means " ".

    A. 尴尬   B. 困惑   C. 激动   D. 拮据

4Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

    A. The writer is too shy to give others directions.

    B. The writer has a very poor sense of direction.

    C. The writer never got lost when she was young.

    D. The man was quite nervous when he saw the writer.

  • 26、On Nov 8, Wang Yaping, a female astronaut (宇航员) of Shenzhou XIII, became China’s first and the world’s 16th female space walker. The expected six-month journey in space has left many curious about the differences between male and female astronauts, especially in terms of performing extravehicular (舱外的) activities (EVAs). Except body challenges, female astronauts have special advantages.

Understanding between astronauts is very important for carrying out EVAs, which is based on excellent communication skills. Women are better in communication and language expression, and this helps female astronauts do extravehicular activities, according to Yang Yuguang, head of Space Transportation Committee.

Men and women are different in body size, which also gives women special advantages for spacewalks. “Their generally smaller size is an advantage, as women will be able to control their weight better and perform different kinds of tasks,” Pang told China Daily.

Women in general weigh less, eat less food, use less oxygen(氧气), and therefore require less fuel(燃料) to get into space. An astronaut must weigh between 55 kilograms and 70 kilograms to fit in the cabin (舱) of spacecraft and use less fuel, according to CGIN.

A different body shape requires a different spacesuit. A spacesuit was prepared for Wang’s extravehicular activities, which was lighter than the males’. Designers optimized the pattern of this spacesuit in the lower part area to make it more suitable for astronauts with slimmer bodies.

According to Pang, many studies have found that female astronauts are more suitable for space tasks, and have advantages over male astronauts in qualities such as attention to detail and thinking thoughtfully .

Men do better in shorter-term, goal-oriented (目标导向的) situations while women are better in longer-term habitation-type (居住类) situations, according to National Geographic.

Women’s taking part in EVAs is an important part of space tasks, and we are seeing history thanks to Wang’s bravery, according to Yang.

【1】What do we know about Wang’s extravehicular activities?

A.She is the first ever female space walker.

B.The spacesuit she wore was specially designed.

C.The task was planned to show female’s advantages.

D.She performed some tasks that her male partners couldn’t do.

【2】What does the underlined word “optimize”in Paragraph 5 mean in this passage?

    A.make something better

    B.make something worse

    C.make something colourful

    D.make something colourless

【3】Which of the following is an advantage females have over male astronauts?

    A.Females have better communication skills.

B.Female bodies are stronger and more smart.

C.Females can be used to the life in space more quickly.

D.Females deal with goal-oriented situations better than males.

【4】What’s the main idea of the article?

A.The challenges female astronauts face during a spacewalk.

B.The difficulty of females doing extravehicular activities.

C.The advantages of females doing extravehicular activities.

D.The preparations for the females to carry out space mission.

  • 27、Have you ever seen a car without a driver? It sounds crazy, but these computer-driven driverless cars will soon be filling roads near you. Companies like Google and Tesla are testing these cars, and the technology is there—they just need to see if they’re value for money and run final tests to check they can run alongside human-driven cars on the road.

So how do they work? The cars have sensors (传感器) all around which can detect other cars in the road. Sensors on the wheels also help when parking, so the car knows how far it is from other cars. Road signs are read by cameras, and satellite navigation systems (卫星导航系统) are used so the car knows how to get you where you need to go. All you have to do is type in the address! Finally, a central computer system takes in all the information it receives from the sensors and cameras and works out the best route.

Sound like great ideas? Sitting back, looking out of the windows and even watching a film or reading a book while driving would be possible with this new technology. You wouldn’t worry about remembering directions to where you’re going. They would also drive more safely than people—they don’t get distracted (分心) by music or friends, they would obey the speed limit and they have quicker reactions (反应) when they are in danger situation.

However, there are many drawbacks (缺点) of driverless cars. Computers would have difficulties making ethical (道德的) decisions: if a child runs into the road, will the computer choose to hit the child or make a turn and it may kill the car’s passengers? Moreover, people will lose the fun of driving. There are more things people have to think about—should children, or drunk people, be allowed in a driverless car by themselves? Or would there need to be an adult with a driving license in the car at all times?

Although driverless cars mean that no one needs a driving license, saving money for everyone, many people would be put out of a job by this invention. Bus, taxi, and train drivers may lose their jobs.

I’m not sure I’d want a driverless car—but it’s only a matter of time before they’ll become more affordable and commonplace on our roads.

【1】The second paragraph is about ________.

    A.why driverless cars are popular

B.how driverless cars work on the road

C.when people can use driverless cars

D.which services the driverless cars can provide

【2】The writer thinks that driverless cars can ________.

A.be safer and react quicker than human drivers

B.know directions because they can look up the maps while driving

C.type in the address with the help of sensors and cameras

D.make ethical decision with the help of computers

【3】What is the writer’s opinion on the driverless cars? ________

A.Driverless cars are now popular on the road.

B.The writer couldn’t have the car because it is too expensive.

C.The writer suggests everyone should have this kind of car.

D.They have a bright future although they have some drawbacks.

【4】What is the best title for the passage? ________

    A.Driverless cars: an affordable invention

    B.Driverless cars: a social improvement?

C.Driverless cars: a great or problematic invention?

D.Driverless cars: the value of this invention
