四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Should we help strangers? When asked this question, some answered, "Sorry, I don't know." Others said, "It all depends on the situation." Still others replied, "No, I'm not willing to do so." How does it happen that so many people refused to help strangers? This is because nowadays there are a lot of problems in the society, such as cheating, robbing (抢劫), blackmailing (敲诈) and so on. As a result, many people are afraid to trust strangers any longer and stay away from them. I think this is why my parents always warn me never talk to strangers.

However, refusing to offer help to strangers will do harm (危害) to both our society and ourselves. Actually, not all the strangers are bad people, We should ask our own conscience (良心) and try to give them a hand when they are badly in need of help. Just as an old saying goes, "A near neighbor is better than a distant relative." In fact, helping each other is an ideal way to build up a good relationship with others, which is good for ourselves.

In a word, we should be warmhearted and try our best to identify (识别) the good and the bad. Only in this way can we help those who are really in need of help to build up a harmonious (和谐的)society.

1According to the passagewhich is not the answer to the question "Should we help strangers"?

A."It all depends on the situation." B."Certainly. I'd love to."

    C."No, I'm not willing to do so." D."Sorry, I don't know."

2Many people refuse to help strangers because there are lots of ________ in the society?

3Refusing to offer help to strangers will be bad for ________.

A.our society and ourselves B.our friends C.a neighbor D.a distant relative

4What does you mother probably say to you about strangers? ________.

A.Study hard at school B.Trust strangers and help them

C.Don't speak to strangers D.Don't fight with your classmates

5The passage tells us that ________.

A.we should refuse to help strangers B.we should help those who are really in need of help

C.it's better to stay away from strangers D.all the strangers are bad people

  • 26、   Everybody is afraid of something. That’s what more than 1,700 kids told us when we asked them about fears and scary(害怕的) things. We gave kids a list of 14 scary things and asked which one frightened them most. Here are the top 5 answers from our survey: Scary movies and TV shows; Scary dreams; Thunderstorms, hurricanes (飓风), and other horrible weather; War and terrorism (恐怖行动); Sounds heard at night.

But not everyone is afraid of the same thing. And what makes one person scared can be of no big deal for someone else. Plenty of kids said their biggest fear wasn’t on our list.

What is fear? Fear is a feeling that everyone has — it’s programmed into all of us — and that’s a good thing because fear is there to protect us. We’re born with a sense of fear so we can react to something that could be dangerous. The baby cries, and their mom comes over to comfort him or her, helping the baby feel safe and OK again.

    Real vs. Pretend

The best way to get over a fear is to get more information about it. As kids get older, they understand more and start seeing the difference between what is real and unreal. So when William’s imagination leads him to think of witches(女巫), he can tell himself, “Wait a minute. They’re only pretend things. I don’t need to worry about them.”

The same goes for the dark. A kid’s imagination can start playing tricks when the lights go out. What’s under my bed? Is that a thief I hear? With the help of a parent, kids can get more comfortable in the dark. Using a night light or shining a flashlight under the bed to see that there’s nothing there can help kids fight that fear.

1What is paragraph 2 mainly about?

A.The list of fears is not complete.

B.The things people fear are of no big fear.

C.Kids have more fears than people think.

D.People are afraid of different things.

    2In the writer’s opinion, ___________.

A.having a sense of fear is not a bad thing

B.babies have a weak sense of fear

C.fear is not something that we are born with

D.not all people can react to dangerous things

3What does the underlined word “pretend” in paragraph 4 mean?

    A.Ugly B.Usual C.Unreal D.Lovely

  • 27、   Reading is the key to success in all school subjects. With a bit of creativity, you can help your child enjoy reading more, and encourage him to do more!

Buy or borrow a lot of “fun” books. Choose books that are slightly below his level of reading ability. Don’t forget what your child likes to do when choosing books for him. Don’t comment about the books. Simply leave the books lying on the table where your child is sure to see them. Computer games are not as harmful as most parents usually think them to be. Instead, you should take advantage of your child’s love of computer games to purchase those that require a lot of reading and avoid those that are simply computerized video games.

Buy your child a bedside reading lamp, or a tiny book light. Tell him that from now on, he must be in bed by a specific time (say 8:30) and that he can either sleep or read. Most kids will do anything else rather than go to sleep, so there’s a chance you’ll create a new bedtime reading habit.

Many children will read when they are sitting alone having a snack, or when they have a few minutes of unplanned free time. Put a box of books and magazines near the kitchen table so that reading material is accessible.

Often, once children learn to read independently, parents stop reading to them. This change of routine causes great sadness to a child who has come to love falling asleep as you read. Even a teenager will enjoy being read to if you pick books that interest him. Select books together, and make sure they’re ones you enjoy as well, so your enjoyment will come through as you read to them.

1To make children become interested in reading, parents should ________.

A.choose the easiest books for them to read

B.tell them what they can learn from these books

C.choose books based on their interest

D.always read books together with them

2Which of the following is NOT what parents are advised to do?

A.Pick the right computer games. B.Reduce children’s sleeping time. C.Have reading material available.   D.Read to children when possible.

3The main idea of the passage is to ________.

A.help children succeed in school subjects

B.teach parents how to encourage children to read

C.remind parents of the importance of reading

D.give parents advice on how to educate children

4According to the passage, why should parents set a specific bedtime for their children?

A.To ensure their children have enough sleep.

B.Because their children are too naughty and make noises.

C.Because children will do anything else rather than go to sleep.

D.Because it can help develop a bedtime reading habit
