22、 Gold is one of the rarest materials on Earth and has always been considered a valuable and precious resource. It's very likely that someone in your family owns something made of gold, especially since China is one of the world's biggest buyers of gold jewellery. It's even in our smartphones - they contain parts made from this expensive material.
But where does this beautiful metal actually come from? The answer: outer space.
This August, Chinese scientists became the first in the world to witness gravitational waves(引力波)caused by the collision of neutron (中子)stars, reported Xinhua News Agency.
The sight was witnessed at China's Kunlun Antarctic Station at the South Pole, and Insight, China’s first X-ray astronomical satellite, also contributed to the discovery.
Although collisions of black holes have been recorded before, this was the first time that two neutron stars were known to have collided. It's believed that such collisions lead to huge explosions of energy, and even to the creation of precious metals such as gold and silver.
“The collision of neutron stars is like a very large gold factory in the universe,” Jin Zhiping,a researcher at the Purple Mountain Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, told Xinhua.
According to an article published by space.com, scientists have long believed gold and other materials are created in this way, but it wasn't until the recent collision that their theory was confirmed.
“The origin of the really heaviest chemical elements in the universe had confused the scientific community for quite a long time,” Hans-Thomas Janka, a senior scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Germany, said in a news release. “Now, we have the first observational proof for neutron star mergers(合并) as sources.”
Indeed, the recently observed collision is thought to have produced an amount of gold that would weigh 10 times more than Earth, according to New Scientist
Don’t expect to be showered in gold any time soon, however. The collision actually took place 130 million years ago, taking all that time for the event's light to reach Earth.
But at least if you want to see a piece of space up close, all you have to do is to look at the ring on your mom's finger - or the smartphone in your pocket.
【1】What's the author's purpose of writing the first two paragraphs?
A. To emphasize the rareness of gold.
B. To list some uses of gold in daily life.
C. To explain the reasons for the popularity of gold.

A. The creation of black holes.
B. The death of the stars.
C. The disappearance of gravitational waves.
D. The creation of gold.
【3】What’s the text mainly about?
A. China’s Kunlun Antarctic Station does research into gold.
B. Collisions between two neutron stars result in gold

23、 Conservationists (野生动物保护者) have long known that using pandas, tigers and other charming species to promote their campaigns is a good way to raise money. But some people argue that focusing on these "flagship" animals can ignore equally threatened but less cute ones.
Now Jennifer McGowan at Macquarie University in Sydney and her colleagues suggest that we can have it both ways, after finding that funding for flagship species also helps other threatened species in the surrounding areas. McGowan's team first drew up a list of 534 flagship species in wildlife-rich hot spots around the world. The biodiversity areas were each split into grids (网格) of 100 by 100kilometer squares. The researchers then compared two conservation approaches across eight simulated scenarios (模拟场景) which assumed different levels of human activity and protected areas.
The first focused on protecting flagship species, while the second aimed to protect the maximum number of species in an area, regardless of their fundraising potential. Their study has found that targeting grid squares with flagship species also protected 79 to 89 per cent of the non-flagship species in that area. The figure rose to 97 per cent in some scenarios. "The findings could help when choosing which species to promote. Flagship species are very effective at getting the public to care, "she says.
Morgan Trimble, the author of a paper that has found scientists also have a preference for charming animals, says the results don't surprise her. "While I think it's important that we don't lose sight of the bigger picture --- conserving species is about conserving all the component parts of ecosystems, even the not-so-cute species ---I think highlighting flagship species in fundraising and education is a practical idea and appeals to human nature," she says. Trimble also asks what the alternative to using flagship species would be randomly picking species? McGowan's study found a random approach to choosing where to spend conservation funds only protected 39 to 55 per cent of the non-flagship species.
【1】What kind of animals do conservationists usually use to raise funds?
A.Less attractive animals.
B.Endangered flagship animals
C.Threatened but not necessarily cute species.
D.Charming but not necessarily threatened species.
【2】What has McGowan and her team's study revealed?
A.It works well to focus on flagship species.
B.There are very few flagship species in grid squares.
C.Non-flagship species are poorly protected in general.
D.Flagship species are getting more than enough attention.
【3】What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.An approach to choosing a charming species
B.The effects of human activity on animals
C.The role of fundraising in saving animals
D.An effective way to conduct wildlife conservation
24、 Starring Yi Yangqianxi and Lei Jiayin, new streaming series The Longest Day In Chang’an has been one of the biggest pleasant surprises for fans of TV dramas this summer. Its intense story and well-designed costumes and scenery have captured the attention of viewers, earning it high marks on review platforms.
The Chinese name of the drama is Chang’an 12 Shichen. Each episode covers half a shichen, or one hour of time, telling the story in “real time”. The show takes place during the Shangyuan Festival in Chang’an, the capital of the Tang Dynasty and what is now Xi’an. The story follows Zhang Xiaojing, who has been sentenced to death. Before his execution(死刑), he is appointed by Li Bi, the young chief of the intelligence department, to stop a group of foreign terrorists called the Wolves Squad and protect Chang’an.
One of the main attractions of the show has been its recreation and presentation of the ancient city of Chang’an. To give viewers the feeling that they are traveling in the city, the show’s director Cao Dun has been making use of single shot scenes that show off what the crowded market would have been like during the Lantern Festival in Chang’an. The cast(演员) has also been a major draw. They have been an irreplaceable part of the drama. These experienced actors are the foundation for the drama.
The drama takes license with history to introduce important plot elements, such as watch towers in the city that are manned by sharpshooters who can hit any target in their range. The production team even came up with a detailed secret communication system that these watch towers use to communicate with each other. Another innovation(革新) is the use on screen notes to explain terms that audiences would be unfamiliar with. Such as the term bu liang ren (Lit: not good person), which audiences may mistakenly think refers to a villain in the show. An explanation appears on screen to tell the audience that bu liang ren are specialists trained to catch bad guys. It’s really helpful.
