  • 25、Have you tried to run or walk for exercise and then given up? If you answered yes, you should try a new kind of exercise: aquatic(水中的) exercise. Aquatic exercise is like exercise on land, but you do it in a swimming pool. More and more people are trying aquatic exercise.

Aquatic exercise feels easier than exercise on land. Why? You weigh about 90% less in the pool. It is better for your knees than running or walking. Water is about 1,000 times thicker and heavier than air. To move through the water, your body has to work four times as hard. As a result, you can burn more calories(卡路里).

In fact, most people say they feel more relaxed in the water. They stop thinking about the things that make them worried. They feel in control of their bodies. The cool, quiet environment makes them feel good.

But what if you are afraid of the water? No problem! There is nothing to worry about. Aquatic exercise is safe and easy to learn. It doesn’t require any special skills. You don’t even need to know how to swim. Aquatic exercise is for everyone.

【1】What do most people think of aquatic exercise?

    A.Relaxing.

    B.Worrying.

    C.Challenging.

    D.Boring.

  • 26、How do you feel about nature? After spending hours indoors, do you feel better when you visit your local park?I believe the answer must be “YES”. We should walk into nature so that we can enjoy the natural beauties around.

Most people think that nature is good for our bodies and brains. However, humans are spending more time inside and less time outside. For example, the number of visitors to Canada’s national parks is getting lower every year. And in countries such as the USA, only 10% of teenagers spend time outside every day. Many doctors feel that this is a problem in the twenty-first century.

As a result, some doctors are studying the connection between nature and health: one example of this is the work of Dr. Matilda in Sweden. The doctor gave people a math test. During the test, their heart rates (心率) were fast. After the test, one group of people sat in a 3D-virtual-reality (虚拟现实) room for fifteen minutes with pictures and sounds of nature. Their heart rates were slower than people’s in the other group.

The virtual touch with nature helped them feel more relaxed. The natural world allows our brains to rest and slow down, and can trigger positive feelings and a sense of peace. Being in nature can leave us feeling happier and less stressed. Another good example of how nature is good for health comes from Canada. In Toronto, researchers studied 31,000 people living in the city. In general, they found that healthier people lived near parks.

Because of studies like these, some countries and cities want nature to be part of people’s everyday life. In Dubai, for example, there are plans for a new shopping mall with a large garden so shoppers can relax outside with trees, plants and water. In Switzerland, “forest schools” are popular. Schoolchildren study their subjects in the forests and do lots of exercise outside. And South Korea (韩国) is another good example: it has new forests near its cities and around 13 million people visit these forests every year. So after building cities for so long, perhaps it’s now time to start rebuilding nature.g

Nature holds a special kind of energy: it is pure and wild and spirit-renewing. In a word, we human being cannot live without nature, and Mother Nature makes us grow stronger.

【1】What does the underlined word “trigger” in paragraph 4 mean? ________

    A.Cause.

    B.Improve.

【2】What do the results of the studies show? ________

B.The math test is difficult and makes people nervous.

C.Nature can help people feel more relaxed and be healthier.

D.People’s heart rates get slower in a 3D-virtual-reality room.

【3】What can we infer from the last sentence of the passage?   ________

A.Nature is more important than cities.

B.Country life is healthier than city life.

C.People have lived in the cities for so long.

D.Nature should be part of people’s daily life.

【4】What can we learn from the passage?   ________

A.31,000 healthier people live near parks in Toronto.

B.A new shopping mall with a large garden will be built in Dubai.

C.10% of teenagers spend time in national parks every day in the USA.

D.About 13 million schoolchildren visit new forests every year in South Korea.

  • 27、Have you ever heard someone use the phrase “once in a blue moon”? People use this expression to describe something that they do not do very often. For example, someone might say that he tries to avoid(避免) eating sweets because they are unhealthy, but will eat chocolate” once in a blue moon”. Or someone who does not usually like to go to the beach might say “I visit the shore once in a blue moon.”While many people use this phrase, not everyone knows the meaning behind it.

The first thing to know is that the moon itself is never really blue. This is just an expression. In fact, the phrase” blue moon” has to do with the shape of the moon, not the color.

As the moon travels around the earth, it appears to change shape. We associate(联系) certain names with certain shapes of the moon. For example, when we can see a small part of the moon it is called a crescent moon. A crescent is a shape that looks like the tip(尖端) of a fingernail (手指甲)when we cannot see the moon at all,  it is called a new moon. When we can see the whole moon, it is called a full moon. Usually, there is only one full moon every month. Sometimes, however there will be two full moons in one month. When this happens, the second full moon is called a blue moon”.

Over the next 20 years, there will only be 15 blue moons. As you can see, a blue moon is a very rare (稀有的)event. This fact has led people to use the expression” once in a blue moon” to describe other very rare events in their lives.

【1】Which of the following would be a good example of using the phrase” once in a blue moon”?

A.Simon often tells jokes. Simon tells jokes once in a blue moon.

B.Tom hardly remembers to do exercise. Tom does exercise once in a blue moon.

C.Mary likes to go shopping every weekend. Mary goes shopping once in a blue moon.

D.Cindy hates to do housework, but she does housework every day. Cindy does housework once in a blue moon.

【2】When does a blue moon happen in nature?  ________________

A.When the moon has a blue moon.

B.When we cannot see the moon at all.

C.When there are two full moons in one month.

D.When we can only see a small part of the color.

【3】 How often will a blue moon happen over the next twenty years?__________

    A.Once a year.

    B.Less than once a year.

    C.More than once a year.

    D.At least twice a year.

【4】What does the underlined part This fact” in the last paragraph refer to?___________

A.A blue moon is a very rare event.

B.The moon appears to change shape.

C.The moon itself is never really blue.

D.A blue moon has to do with the shape of the moon.

Have you ever tried to stand an egg on its end? Well, it’s said that every Spring Equinox (春分) you will be able to b【1】 an egg on one end. There is some truth to this. But there is also a very important piece of information that might s【2】 you.

The Spring Equinox, or Vernal Equinox, is the f【3】 day of spring. It falls on March 21 this year. The angle (角度) of the Earth facing towards the Sun changes throughout the year, and it also changes the length of our days. On the first day of spring, the Earth’s axis (轴) is perpendicular (垂直的) to the Sun. This means that the length of day and n【4】 is exactly the same.

The saying that an egg can stand on one end might come from a Chinese idea. It’s d【5】 to balance an egg because the yoke (蛋黄) is off-center. And it will usually just f【6】 over. But the idea is that the Earth is more balanced, so there could be some special gravitational forces (引力) on this day.

However, this is not t【7】. If you focus long enough, you can actually do this any day of the year! There’s n【8】 special about the Spring Equinox.

Some people think that the imperfections (缺点) of the egg are what help it balance, but this might just make it a little easier. Really all you need is a lot of p【9】, and you will be able to successfully balance an egg on its end.

Even t【10】 the old saying is wrong, go ahead and try it for yourself during the Spring Equinox or any other day!
