21、More than 50, 000, 000 people live in the rainforests of the world and most of them do not hurt the forest they live in. They eat the fruits that grow on the forest trees, but they do not cut them down. They kill some animals to eat, but they do not destroy them.
When we cut down the rainforests, we destroy these forest people, too. In 1900, there were 1, 000, 000 forest people in the Amazon forest. In 1980, there were only 200, 000.
The Yanomami live along the rivers of the rainforest in the north of Brazil(巴西). They have lived in the rainforest for about 10, 000 years and they use more than 2, 000 different plants for food and for medicine. But in 1988, someone found gold in their forest, and more than 45, 000 people came to the forest and began looking for gold. They cut down the forest to make roads. They made over a hundred airports. The Yanomami people lost land and food. Many died because new illnesses came to the forest with the strange people.
The Yanomami people tried to save their forest, because it was their home. But the people who wanted gold were stronger.
Many forest people try to save their forests. Chico Mendes was famous in Brazil because he wanted to keep the forest for his people. “I want the Amazon forest to help all of us—forest people, and all the Earth,” he said. A few months later, in December 1988, people who wanted to cut down the forest killed Chico Mendes.
In Brazil, people were cutting down the forest of local people to sell the wood. Local people tried to save their rainforest. They made blockades(障碍) across the roads into the forest. In 1987, they closed fifteen roads for eight months. No one cut down any trees during that time.
In Panama (巴拿马), local people also saved their forest. They made a rainforest park which tourists must spend money visiting.

Speaking of nostalgia, most of us will remember this famous poem by Yu Guangzhong. Although I never had such hometown feelings because I never left my hometown, I know that lots of people have to leave theirs to work or study, carrying large suitcases(行李箱) with them.
Some photos of suitcases prepared by parents on the Internet moved lots of people: parents always worry that you might always get hungry in another city or unable to put everything in your suitcase, we call them parents’ love. Also, putting these photos online is a way to show love for their parents, their thanks for their families, and also their deep nostalgia.
The suitcases are a symbol of parents’ silent love and encouragement(鼓励) — they can’t help their children with the competition and pressure from the world, and they can only watch their children go through ups and downs in life. However, the deepest love and encouragement are always there — ▲ but no matter where you are, family pushes you to face difficult days.

23、“Dream may be more important than sleep. We all need to dream,” some scientists say. Dreams take up (占据) about half of our sleeping time. People have several dreams each night.
Dreams are like short films. They are usually in color. Some dreams are like old films. They come to us over and over again. That may be because the dreamer is worrying about something. Dreaming may be a way of trying to find an answer.
Some people get new ideas about their work from dreams. They may think about their work all day. These ideas can carry over into dreams. Sometimes we wake up with a good feeling from a nice dream. But often we can’t remember the dream. Dreams can go away quickly from memory.
But too much dreaming can be harmful. The more we sleep, the longer we dream. The mind is working hard when we dream. That is why we may have a long sleep and still wake up exhausted. We may feel sleepy the whole day.
【1】If a boy sleeps for 8 hours, how long does he usually dream?
A.One hour.
B.Two hours.
C.Four hours.

【2】Why do some dreamers always have the same dreams at night?
