二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、A company has designed a water bottle, the  Memobottle, which is ideal for the office worker’s bag, because it’s completely flat. With the same shape as a piece of paper, the Memobottle is a reusable water bottle that slides into your bag to lie next to books and laptops. The bottle, which can also be washed in a dishwasher, is designed to help reduce the number of plastic bottles in landfills(填埋).

Two creative people Jesse Leeworthy and Jonathan Byrt, both 28,designed the bottle to be convenient to carry and environmentally friendly. It is made from a durable and dishwasher-friendly“green” plastic.

Leeworthy and Byrt, from Australia, say more than 600 billion single-use bottles were sold globally last year. In America alone, studies show that around 1,500 single-use water bottle are consumed every second—only 20 percent of these are recycled. And the cost of buying more and more plastic bottles adds to— the pair say that bottled water costs approximately 1,400 times more than tap water.

“We’ve always been passionate about the environment,” said  Leeworthy.“For years we have been focused on creative design that provides environmental remedy while improving social convenience. The Memobottle was designed to overcome two problems that we see in our society: our attachment to the outdoors, and our inability  to fit water bottles in laptop bags.”

The bottle will be available in three different sizes— A5 which holds 750 ml,A4 which holds 1.25 litres and letter size which stores 1.25 litres. The product is seeking funding on Kickstarter and has already soared(飙升)past its primary goal of raising £8,310 ($13,500),reaching it in just 36 hours. Jonathan Byrt said, “The feedback we’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive! The emails of support and interest, and social media comments have been amazing!”

The product is expected to be on the market by Christmas and will be available for global delivery.

1What is the main character of the newly-designed water bottle?

    A. Clean and easy to wash.

    B. Practical and friendly to environment.

    C. Flat and popular with housewives.

    D. Cheap and convenient to carry in bags.

2What are the two designers most concerned about?

    A. Materials and shape.   B. Price and production.

    C. Comments and popularity.   D. Environment and convenience.

3What is people’s attitude towards the water bottle?

    A. Opposed.   B. Indifferent.

    C. Supportive.   D. Doubtful.

4What can be the best title of the text?

    A. The way to protect water resource.

    B. Round water bottles are out of date.

    C. Seeking fund for an ideal water bottle.

    D. Two creative Australian young designers.

  • 23、   In dreaming up the programme Tennis and Literacy for Youth, as a mother, I had hoped to share two of my passions, tennis and reading, with children. Throughout the year, I had advertised for participants at local elementary schools and recruited (招收) volunteers at local high schools. With the help of kind people, I applied for money. I was even able to secure a site for the program.

But on the first day of camp, in spite of my careful planning, things did not go the way I had hoped. Hector and Adrian exchanged blows with their racquet (球拍). Hector struggled to his feet moments later, covering a bloody nose with one hand. Georgie and Eduardo threw balls at each other. Then during reading time, I raced from joyless child to demanding child, unable to convince even one to open a book. They would rather be watching Nickelodeon at home, Eli told me, than “learning stupid tennis and reading boring books.”

I dragged myself home that afternoon. That evening, I called my volunteers together for a meeting, and redesigned the entire curriculum. We created a good-fellow system, where each volunteer paired with a camper to help him or her during reading time. To emphasize praise and progress, we established weekly prize ceremonies, presenting awards for most improved reading, tennis and behavior.

Then Mylea shut the book and asked me, “Can I take this to read it to my mom tonight?” Peering up at her eager face, I couldn’t help myself. I jumped to my feet and wrapped her in a hug, lifting her right off the ground. “It’s all yours!” I said.

Somehow, in the midst of the chaos and the schedule changes and the meetings, these children, in bad mood during reading time, untouched books in their laps, began to find joy in reading a story.

【1】What happened the first day of the programme?

    A.Participants watched TV at home.

    B.The programme worked out badly.

C.Volunteers failed to do their duties.

D.The plan lived up to the expectation.

【2】What did the author do to make the programme a success?

    A.She recruited new volunteers.

    B.She replaced the books used.

C.She made adjustments to the plan.

    D.She established volunteers’ leading part.

【3】Why did the author lift Mylea off the ground quickly?

    A.She sensed something was wrong.

    B.She thought Mylea needed comfort.

C.Mylea’s boredom in reading discouraged her.

D.Mylea’s great passion for reading amazed her.

【4】What is the text mainly about?

    A.An initiative of being volunteers.

B.An innovation to the teaching method.

C.An insight into helping kids overcome difficulties.

D.An experience of introducing reading and tennis to kids.

  • 24、Summer Rain

The worst days of any summer are the rainy ones. We spend all year looking forward to nice weather and long, hot days. All of winter, with its cloudy days and bitter cold, we dream of those endless days at the beach, lying on the sand and enjoying the bright and burning sun. And then, summer comes, and it rains.

As a child, I would wake up to rainy summer days and come close to crying. It wasn’t fair. We suffered through months of school and experienced bad weather for those short ten weeks of freedom and pleasant weather.

On those rainy summer days, I had nothing fun to do and could only sit inside, staring out at the rain like a bird in a cage. I was an only child, so there was no one else to play with. My father worked from home, so I was not truly alone, but he could not actively play with me since he was at work. It was those days that I would watch whatever was on television or read any books that I could find lying around. I’d drag through the day and pray each night that the rain would not be there the next day.

As an adult, though, my opinion of summer rain has changed. When you have to work every day, summer is not as exciting. Everything seems dull. Such a mindset makes you cheer for anything new or different. I spend the winter dreaming of summer and the summer dreaming of winter. When summer comes, I hate how hot it is. And then I look forward to the rain, because the rain brings with it a cold front, which makes me comfortable. Rainy days are still the worst days of the summer, but summer rain today means positively beautiful and considerably cooler weather tomorrow.

【1】When the author was a child, he ______.

    A. preferred cooler weather

    B. hated rainy days

    C. liked staying indoors

    D. dreamed on summer days

【2】We can learn from the passage that the author ______.

    A. was often left alone at home

    B. preferred reading to playing outside

    C. had no brothers or sisters

    D. could enjoy the brilliant sun in winter

【3As an adult, the author views summer rain differently because ______.

    A. he knows it won’t last long

    B. his summer holiday is very short

    C. he can better deal with his holiday

    D. rain makes the weather cooler
