四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   I’m definitely a morning person. I’ve realized how much I can actually get done first things in the morning, between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. That, for me, is the sweet spot. I honestly get more done in those two hours than I often do the rest(其余的)of the day. I’ve developed a habit that helps me be productive(效率)and it includes what I call the law(定律)of first things. This same law is followed by people far more productive than I am, including Bill Gates, Howard Schultz and Jeff Bezos.

Essentially, the law of first things says that whatever you do when you first get up in the morning influences your productivity for the rest of the day. For many of the most productive people, that first thing is often not work. And it shouldn’t be for you either.

Let’s consider the morning habits of these highly productive people. Bill Gates says he starts his day on the treadmill(跑步机),watching educational DVDs. Howard Schultz likes to get up early to exercise, often cycling, before getting started with work. Jeff Bezos, famously, prefers to not have business meetings until around 10 a.m., instead, he makes time for other things at home first.

Most of us get out of bed, pick up our phone and immediately start reading emails or our news feeds. That means that from the moment we wake up, we’re already responding(回应) to the outside world instead of creating space for ourselves to allow our bodies and our minds to practice.

That space matters, and whatever you do first sets the direction you go throughout your day. If that thing is responding to an email from someone who feels it is important, you may never get back to the important things you need to do. You should start your day with something other than work. You might end up surprised by how much you get done.

【1】Why does the writer think he’s a morning person?

A.He finishes all his work in the morning.

B.He has a lot of work to do in the morning.

C.He does things more productively in the morning.

D.He’d always like to do some exercise in the morning,

【2】In the passage, the writer supports the idea of the passage by _______.

    A.telling stories

    B.giving examples

    C.asking questions

    D.explaining differences

    【3】From Paragraph 3, we can know ________.

A.what to do in the morning

B.how to start the day right

C.why to pay attention to starting the day

D.where to spend the morning time

【4】According to the passage, which of the following is the writer’s opinion?

A.We always practice our bodies and minds when we get up.

B.Watching educational DVDs is a good choice to start the day.

C.It’s important to wake up to respond to the outside world.

D.We should learn to use the first hours of the day wisely.

  • 25、Have you ever had the strange feeling that you were being watched You turn around and ,sure enough, someone was looking right at you!

Parapsychologists(心灵学家) say that humans have a natural ability to sense when someone is looking at them. To research whether such a six sense” really exists, Robert Baker, a psychologist(心理学家) at the University of Kentucky, did two experiments.

In the first one, Baker sat behind unknowing people in public places and stared at the backs of their heads for 5 to 15 minutes. The subjects (受试者) were eating, drinking, reading, studying, watching TV, or working at a computer. Baker made sure that the people could not tell that he was sitting behind them during those periods. Later when he questioned the subjects, almost all of them said they had no sense that someone was staring at them.

For the second experiment, Baker told the subjects that they would be stared at from time to time from behind in a laboratory setting. The people had to write down when they felt they being stared at and when they weren’t. Baker found the subjects were no better at telling when they were stared at and when they weren’t.

Baker concludes that people do not have the ability to sense when they are being stared at. If people doubt the outcome of his two experiments, said Baker, “I suggest they repeat the experiments and see for themselves.”

【1】what’s the aim of the two experiments

    A. To study whether humans can sense when they are stared at.

    B. To explain when people can have a sixth sense

    C. To  show how people act while being watched in the lab.

    D. To Prove why humans have a sixth sense.

【2】what sense does parapsychologists say that humans have to

    A. A looking feeling   B. A natural staring ability

    C. A strange thinking D. A natural ability

【3】The underlined word” outcome” in the last paragraph most probably means

    A. value B. performance

    C. result   D. connection

【4】 What can we learn from the passage

    A. People are born with a sixth sense.

    B. The experiments support parapsychologists’ idea.

    C. The subjects do not have a sixth sense in the experiments.

    D. People have a sixth sense in all places.

  • 26、There have always been a lot of commonly believed but false (虚假的) ideas about being fat and doing exercise. Some people believe that they can't help putting on weight as they get older, while others hold that if they stop exercising, their muscles (肌肉) will turn into fat. Here are some more myths.

I’ll never lose weight—I come from a fat family

Wrong! While we can't change the body type we are born with, we can't blame our genes for making us fat. There's plenty of evidence that fatness runs in families, and the main reason is that they share the same habit of eating too much and exercise too little.

I am fat because I burn calories slowly Wrong! Fatness is not caused by a slow metabolism (新陈代谢). In fact, although fat people consume (消耗) more energy than slim people, they also fail to realize how much they eat. Keeping a diary can help you work out your daily food intake more accurately (精确地).

Exercise is boring Wrong! Anything will become boring if you do it again and again. The key is to develop a balanced and varied (各种的) program that's fun as well as progressive (不断进步的). If you enjoy a Sunday walk, take a different mute. If you do yoga, try a tai chi class.

No pain, no gain Wrong! Exercise is not meant to hurt. Indeed, pain is your body telling you something is wrong, and continuing to exercise could lead to serious injury (伤害). You may experience mild discomfort as you begin to exercise regularly, but this is your body adapting to the positive changes in your lifestyle and the aches should disappear quickly. If they don't, rest and ask for medical advice.

【1】What does the writer think about being fat?

    A. It is the family genes that make people fat.

    B. People are fat because they consume too little energy.

    C. A diary of exercise can prevent people from becoming fat.

    D. It is the result of people's unbalanced lifestyle.

2According to the writer, how can we make exercise more interesting?

    A. By taking all kinds of exercise.

    B. By choosing simple exercise.

    C. By doing regular exercise.

    D. By sticking to outdoor exercise.

3What is the writer's opinion about "No pain, no gain" in exercising?

    A. Keeping fit is essentially a painful experience

    B. Exercise should be stopped if continuous pain is felt.

    C. Pain in exercise is a precondition (前提) for reaching your goal.

    D. Getting used to pain leads to positive changes in your body.

4The underlined words “adapting to” means “_______” in Chinese.

    A. 适应 B.顺从   C. 摆脱 D. 陷入

5What is the purpose of the passage?

    A. To show the importance of keeping fit.

    B. To clarify (澄清) some misconceptions (误解) about fatness and exercise.

    C. To confirm what has long been believed about keeping fit.

    D. To explain some medical facts about being fat and doing exercise.
