24、Every day when I enter the classroom, I will take a look at the wall beside my seat. You will find nothing special about this old wall if you just look at it. But for the students in my class, it is a special wall. Take a look at it, and you will get to know the real feelings and thought of us.
In the middle of the wall, there is a big “VICTORY”. It was written in pencil. I guess it must have been written by someone who got a good mark in an exam.
A little higher above the formulas, there is a poem. It only has two sentences. It reads: All those sweet memories have disappeared. Like tears dropping in the heavy rain.
Oh! It must have been written at the end of the last semester in middle school. Classmates had to leave school and good friends had to part. What a sad poem!
If you look at the wall more carefully, you will find many other interesting things, like a crying face, or a happy face, and other patterns(图案). There are still some patterns and letters that I can’t understand, but they all show the feelings of the students who drew them.
For years, the wall has witnessed(目睹) all the things that have happened in the classroom. I don’t know how it will be next year, two years from now, or even ten years from now. But I hope more smiling faces will be drawn on it.
【1】There is special on the wall.
A. nothing B. anything C. everything D. something
【2】What was the “VICTORY” written in?
A. Pen. B. Brush. C. Pencil D. Chalk
【3】When must the poem have been written?

D. At the beginning of the last month.

25、 French artist Claude Monet put the last 30 years of his life to water lilies .He built a huge lily pond (池塘)in his garden and painted it again and again ,at all times of day ,to try to catch the changing effect (效果)of sunlight on the flowers and water .
This picture shows the pond in the soft light of morning. Painted with free ,swirling brushstroke (旋转的笔法),and lines and touches of unblended color ,it creates a brave impression (印象) —so brave, you might not even realize it's a lily pond at first .
This huge picture is one of a series (系列) showing the lily pond from morning to evening. Monet created the series during the First World War ,perhaps because he wanted to run away from the fear of the times .The day after the war ended ,he gave the series to the French nation—a set of peaceful scene ,to celebrate the new peace .

You will have a lot of reading to do in this grade this year. You can do more of it in less time if you learn to read rapidly.
Perhaps you have been told about some habits which keep a person from reading fast and have been strongly asked to break those habits which you might have.
Do you still have any of these bad habits? Check yourself by answering “yes” or “no” to these questions.
(1) Do you move your lips (嘴唇) when reading silently?
(2) Do you point to words with your finger as you read?
(3) Do you move your head from side to side as you read?
(4) Do you read one word at a time?
If you answer “yes” to any of these questions, start at once to break the habit. If you move your lips, hold your fingers over them, or hold a piece of paper between your lips while you are reading. Then if your lips move, your will know it and can stop them.
If you point to words, hold the two sides of your book, one side with your left hand, the other side with your right hand. Then you won’t have a free finger to use in pointing while reading. If you move your head, place your chin (下巴) in one hand and hold your head still (静止不动的).
If you read no more than one or two three words at a time, you need to work very hard in learning to take in (吸收) more words at each glance (一瞥) as your eyes travel across the lines of words.
Even if you do rather fast now, you can learn to read even faster. As you probably have been told, the set of fast reading is to take in whole groups of words at each glance. Read in thought groups and force (迫使) your eyes along the lines of words at fast as you can make them go. Anyone who practices doing these things will be able to read faster.
【1】You may hold your fingers over your lips while reading so as ________.
A.to tell others to be silent
B.to feel whether your lips move or not
C.to hold a piece of paper between them
【2】When you read, .
A.don’t keep your head still

27、 Why do people yawn(打呵欠)? It is a way to get more oxygen(氧气). When people are sleepy, they yawn to help stay awake. This is because of fresh oxygen. Yawning is one thing that newborn babies do often.
When one person yawns, others often begin to yawn, too. Once a film of someone yawning was shown, and almost everyone in the theater started to yawn.
