24、“You are what you eat,” says the old saying. So how can we know what food is healthy? Unluckily, a lot of food that looks good may have pollution. Where is the pollution from? It has something to do with how people produce food: growing it on the farm, processing (加工)it in factories, and making it ready for you to eat.
Here’s what happens:
Most farmers use chemicals(化学药品) to stop their crops from getting sick. Many of these chemicals remain in the food that you eat. Some people believe this may cause cancer. These chemicals may also pollute water and air, and kill animals and even people by accident.
Most drinks are just flavored water (加味水). Every drink coming in plastic bottles which you then throw away means a waste. Sugary drinks make you fat.
In the factories, much of what you eat and drink gets messed. Often things are put into food to make it delicious and look good but they might be harmful to people. And some food like meat often gets polluted by bacteria. What you can do:
Try to get organic (有机的)food. Organic food doesn’t have any ingredients (成分)that are bad for the land, air or water. Don’t eat processed food or drinks. Eat fresh food whenever you can and cook at home.

What is the best-selling book in the world? Is it the Harry Potter series or Secret Garden? According to the Guinness World Records, the Xinhua Dictionary, published by the Commercial Press in China, is the world’s most popular dictionary and the best-selling book.
In 1950, Chinese language experts(专家) andscholars, Wei Jiangong and Ye Shengtao, started to edit(编辑) the Xinhua Dictionary. There was a lot of discussion, research and paper work. Some hand scripts (稿件) were checked again and again like compositions, People’s Daily reported. Many people’s hard work and interesting stories went into making the dictionary.
In 1953, the first Xinhua Dictionary was published. Today, 567 million copies of the dictionary have been sold worldwide.
However, revisions (修订) to the dictionary continue to be made. According to Yu Guilin from Commercial Press, editors(编辑) usually summarize (总结) the meaning of words again while revising. If the example sentences are out of date, editors need to have experiences and make new examples. “To give a correct explanation of the word ‘焗油 (deep condition)’ , one editor went to a barber shop (理发店) to experience it for himself,” Yu told the Beijing Times. So far, the Xinhua Dictionary has been revised 11 times.
To keep up with the times, some popular and widely used internet words are also added to the dictionary. For example, in the 11th edition, the phrases “晒工资 (show off salary)” and “晒照片 (show off pictures)” were included.
All these efforts create the “National Dictionary” of China. The Xinhua Dictionary is not only a useful tool for generations of Chinese people. It also helps foreigners who are learning the Chinese language and culture.

26、 ①Choosing seating in the classroom can have an influence on a students performance (表现), a study suggests.
②Researchers from Sheffield Hallam University in the UK did a survey on students' seating positions in a classroom. Here are the results.
③The more prepared and hard-working students sit in front rows. They almost always score higher on exams. Perhaps, the front row is the perfect position for students who have trouble concentrating (集中注意力). Also, sitting closer to the front of the classroom does have an influence on the student-teacher relationship, which is connected with greater performance.. According to a study in2018, the Grade Point Average (平均成绩) decreased (下降) by 0.1 point for every row further back students sit.
④Still, some students prefer the middle rows. Dr. Robert Wallace, a member of the National Education Association, thinks of choosing to sit in the middle of the classroom as one of the worst decisions a student can make. "In a classroom, a teacher's eyes often go to the front and the back of the classroom. They don't look at the centre of the classroom very often or with the same amount of attention" said Dr. Robert Wallace.
⑤If neither the front nor the middle is suitable for a student, there can only be one way out: the back. The back row would have the lowest value. That's where students are more likely (有可能的) to chat, play video games or do some other things. However, things are not always what they seem. There are also some good students who work hard in the back row.
【1】From the third paragraph, we can learn that ________.
