四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Coffee is a necessary part of Italian culture and since arriving here over six months ago, I have definitely drunk a lot of it!

Of course, coffee is also very popular in the UK but coffee culture in Italy is a completely different story. In Italy, when you order a coffee in a cafe or a bar, you are presented with a tiny,  bitter espresso(蒸馏咖啡). This is "normal coffee" for Italians and they are not so interested in the huge coffees that we drink in the UK. In addition, while take-away coffee is extremely popular among Englishmen, it is not very common at all in Italy especially in non-touristy areas. Generally, Italians prefer to drink their tiny coffees while standing at the bar and, for many, this short break is an important part of their day.

Typically, breakfast at a bar in Italy includes a coffee and a pastry(油酥糕点). I have been spoiled for choice with lovely cafes in the Italian town I'm living in these cafes sell a series of mouth-watering pastries-either plain or filled with cream, chocolate, jam or Nutella-as well as delicious coffee. Cappuccinos are very popular at breakfast time and, for me, a creamy cappuccino and a pastry is the perfect way to start the day. I think it's a nice way to head to bar to buy a coffee and a pastry for breakfast before working and it's relaxing to take more time to enjoy such breakfast at the weekend.

Finally, I have found that coffee in Italy is so much cheaper than coffee in the UK. Of course, this means that in Italy it is possible to go out for coffee regularly without breaking the bank.

1Which of the following do Italians like better?

    A.Takeaway coffees. B.Huge coffees.

    C.Creamy coffees. D.Tiny, bitter coffees

2What does the word "they" in Paragraph 2 refer to?

    A.Italians. B.Britons. C.Coffees. D.Cafes.

3Why can the writer often go out for coffee in Italy?

A.Because coffee is a part of Italian culture. B.Because there are so many cafes or bars.

C.Because Italian pastries are very delicious. D.Because Italian coffee is very cheap.

  • 25、A popular saying goes, Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. However, thats not really true. Words have the power to cheer us up or let us down. It doesnt matter if the words come from someone else or ourselves the positive and negative (正面和负面) influences are just as lasting.

We all talk to ourselves sometimes. Were usually too shy to admit(承认) it, though. In fact, we really shouldnt be because more and more scientists believe talking to ourselves out loud is a healthy habit.

This self-talk helps us make ourselves active, remember things, solve problems, and calm ourselves down. It is said that as much as 77% of self-talk is likely to be negative. So in order to stay positive, we should only speak words of encouragement to ourselves. We should also be quick to give ourselves a pat on the back. The next time you finish a project, do well in a test, or finally clean your room, join me in saying Good job!

Often, words come out of our mouths without us thinking about the influence they will have. But we should realize that our words cause certain influence in others. For example, when returning an item to a store, we might use warm, friendly language during the exchange. And the salesperson will probably answer in a similar manner. Otherwise you may get into trouble.

Words have power because of their lasting influences. Many of us feel sorry for something we once said. And we remember unkind words said to us! Before speaking, we should always ask ourselves: Is it true? Is it loving? Is it needed? If what we want to say doesnt pass this test, then its better left unsaid.

Words have power: both positive and negative. Those around us receive encouragement when we speak positively. We can offer hope, build self-confidence and encourage others to do their best. Negative words destroy all those things. Will we use our words to hurt or to cure? The choice is ours.

【1】There is no need for us to feel shy when we talk to ourselves because ________.

    A. almost everybody has the habit of talking to themselves

  • 27、根据表格信息,从每小题的A、B、C、D中选出最佳答案。

The earth is 4 600 million years old. We humans have lived on earth for only 35 000 years, but during this period we have changed our planet a lot in many ways. Some things we’ve done are very good for the earth while some are bad.

All over the world, people have cut down millions of trees. When it rains or when the wind blows, the earth is taken away. Forests have become deserts, so more and more sorts of animals and plants are disappearing.

In big cities, cars and buses have polluted the air. Many people in cities now have health problems.

Factories have also polluted the land and the water. As a result, many rivers and lakes are nowdead.

Around the earth, there’s a special kind of oxygen called “ozone”(O3). It is important to theearth. But now air pollution is destroying it and that has made a very big hole in the ozone layer. Too much harmful radiation from the sun passes through the hole and reaches the earth directly. This is very dangerous because this kind of radiation can cause cancer.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) in the air has increased a lot. It mainly comes from burning oil, coal andwood. This has formed a “blanket” around the earth. The heat from the sun can’t escape so thetemperature is rising. This is called “the greenhouse effect”. It causes the level of the oceans to rise and the climate of the earth to change.

All these problems are very serious, so we must do something now.

    根据短文内容,从题中所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选择最佳答案。

【1】What does our planet mean here?

    A. The sun. B. Mars.

    C. The moon. D. The earth.

【2】In the passage, “blanket” refers to_______________.

    A. carbon dioxide around the earth

    B. the ozone layer in the sky

    C. the forests around the world

    D. pollution all over the world

【3】The level of the oceans is rising because of _______.

    A.pollution

    B. few trees

    C. the greenhouse effect

    D. changes in the climate

    【4】Which is NOT true?

    A. Cars can pollute the air.

    B. Factories can pollute the water.

    C. The fewer trees, the better.

    D. Not all the things we have done are good for the earth.

【5】What is the best title for this passage?

    A. Environmental Problems

    B. Pollution on the Earth

    C. Hope for the Future

    D. The Greenhouse Effect

  • 29、   There’s a saying, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” So when you eat Western food, do as the ______ do. Here are some things you may need to know about ______ together in the West.

In some Western countries, lunch is eaten later, always after midday, sometimes at one o’clock. Dinner is served around 7 pm or even later. In Spain it’s usual to have lunch at 3 pm and dinner at 10 pm!

Chopsticks are used ______ people eat Chinese food. Knives and forks are used for most Western food. The fork is held in your left hand and the knife in your right, and the food is held with the fork and ______ with the knife. Americans often cut all their food first, and then put the fork in their right hand to eat it. Soup is eaten ______ a spoon. However, there is some food which can be eaten with your fingers, such as chicken legs, seafood, bread and cake.

I can’t eat this. ” No one will be ______. If you’re offered more food, but can’t eat any more, just say, “No, thanks. It was delicious, but I’ve had enough.”

If you’re invited to dinner by Western friends, you’ll know that you’re ______ to stay and talk around the dinner table long after the last dish is brought to the table, and it’s thought quite rude if you leave as soon as you finish eating.
