24、 “I do hope that by writing about their stories , I'm helping things change for the better . " Li Xueqing, a China Daily journalist , based in New York City.
They're neither medical workers in close contact with the novel coronavirus nor government officials who receive the latest updates of the situation - yet they’re keeping us informed of the development of the epidemic . They are the media , and their eyes are far-seeing.
Zhu Xingxin is one such member of the media : a photographer with China Daily . He visited Tongji Hospital affiliated with Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan on Feb 3 to report on the lives of medical workers.
Before entering the isolation ward ( 隔离病房) , Zhu had to put on protective gear ( 装 备 ) like the doctors : a protective suit , a surgical mask ,goggles ( 护 目镜 ) , disposable ( 一次性 ) gloves and shoe covers. He described it as " stuffy (闷热的)” with all the layers on .“I felt anoxi( 缺氧的 ) under the masks , ”he wrote on China Daily . " So I lowered my voice and slowed down my motions, trying to make myself feel better.
The eyes of the media are not just here to see, but also to scrutinize.
On Feb 9, for example , a bus in Wuhan carrying severely ill patients was caught in traffic with no one guiding them and no hospitals claiming them . The incident was witnessed by Global Times journalists and was soon reported online. It ended with all the patients being properly settled in hospitals and officials in charge being held responsible . But it's possible that without journalists this incident would never have been exposed.
Li Xueqing , a China Daily journalist , based in New York City , is also aware of the media's role as a watchdog ( 监督者 ) . She wrote a story last month about a group of Wuhan University alumni ( 校 友 ) in New York City who donated medical equipment to hospitals in Wuhan . She was impressed by how they managed to collect such a large amount of supplies and build an international shipping pathway in such a short time . Yet she was also disturbed by how all the complex ( 繁 杂 的 )paperwork and bureaucratic (官僚主义的 ) procedures added to their already heavy workload.
" I do hope that by writing about their stories , I'm helping things change for the better , said Li.
Indeed , the media is like a pair of eyes watching out for us as they report on the world's most important news.

26、I learned about life from an ant farm. When I was seven years old, my family created one. First, we put
clean sand in a thin glass box, and then we waited for the live ants to arrive. Shortly after the chilly ants were dropped into the glass structure, they got to work making tunnels. I was amazed that each one knew exactly what to
do. After hours of staring, I realized that the ants had assigned jobs.
With my mom ' s help, I kept a diary of what happened each day and named the ants. One day an incident struck
the ant farm. The pages of the diary, still wrinkled(皱巴巴) where tear drops fell, indicate the great loss.
'I had put my face so close to the structure that I accidentally knocked it over and all the tunnels caved in.
Although the ants survived(幸存) their earthquake, one by one they began to die.
I was terrified as I watched them give up their tunnel-building to carry the bodies to a comer of the farm.
My mother reported that the ants were dying of "frustration." They simply could not stand the reality that their
tunnels had been destroyed.
Although much time has passed, I still think of that ant farm. Mom had hoped it would teach me about the
natural world, but it taught me much more. Over the years, I came to realize the ants were a study in the benefits
of teamwork. Working together, they were able to create an amazing world for themselves. I also learned that
they should be admired for their hard work. Day in and day out, each labored at their task.
The ant farm showed that teamwork and perseverance are indeed two key ingredients to success. But there
was an even larger lesson that I did not realize until recently: Adversity is a natural part of life, and must be accepted. Unlike the ants, humans cannot give up when they face disappointment. Unlike the ants, we have to
realize that if a tunnel caves in, we just have to build another. Giving up, I say, is not a choice.

C. Humans cannot give up when facing adversity.
D. Perseverance is the only way to success.
【5】Which statement is true according to the passage?
A. The writer broke the glass box because to the passage?
B. The arts died one by one because the tunnels were destroyed.
C. Unlike people, teamwork is not so important for the ants.
D. Giving up is a good way when we meet trouble
27、We usually think that garbage is useless and dirty. However, an art exhibition in 2019 proves that”useless” things can actually be helpful.
Dear Pretty Rubbish, an art event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWFN) and digital media art company Blackbow, was held in Beijing. It looked at wasteful garbage and asked questions about the relationship between our lifestyles and our garbage.
“We hope that everyone who visited the show can think about how ‘useless things’ are produced, why they are tossed out, and whether ‘useless things’ are really useless”, said Cao Yujia, the design director at Blackbow.
Artists Zhou Yuxuan and Liu Yifan collected nylon cable ties, LED lights and plastic bottles from designers’ workshops to create a work where plastics, in the shape of cells, “grow” in a comer. There, the lights blink(闪烁) regularly just like “breathing”. When people walk near it, the work responds by showing light patterns, as if communicating with the visitors.
Speaking about the work, Zhou said: “It’s like some kind of communication between humans and plastics.”
Plastic has a life longer than almost any creature, taking centuries to break down. Though people think plastics damage the environment, they are a big part of our daily lives. “So we want to ask the question: Although the damage continues, is there a way for humans to reconcile (和解) with plastics?” said Zhou.

Scientists study the world and learn about things using a process called the scientific method. By asking important questions and the answers, it is possible to make amazing discoveries! Sometimes a scientist is to answer his own questions, but if he has taken good notes ,another scientist may come along later who is able to use new knowledge to answer it.
When you use the scientific method to an experiment, you start by making observations(观察) about something that you. Based on your observations, you make a hypothesis(假设). This is using you know to make a smart guess about what you think could happen. Then you are ready to begin your experiment. All your experiment you take down notes, which are experiment date(资料). You are constantly(不断地) making observations during this time. You may make discoveries that cause you to improve your experiment as you go. , you conclude your experiment and begin to look over your notes to decide what it all means. Based on what you have learned, you make a final statement about your hypothesis was correct or not. You have to have reasons and evidence to support what you are saying.
