21、 A China’s face-swapping app that allows users to superimpose their own likeness over characters in movies or TV shows has rapidly become one of the country’s most download apps. But it has also triggered concerns about the issue of privacy.
Released on Friday, the Zao app went viral as Chinese users pursued the chance to act out scenes from well-known movies. This is done using “deepfake” technology, which has already caused concerns elsewhere over its potential misuse.
Users provide a series of selfies in which they blink, open their mouths or assume other expressions. The app will then realistically change the person’s animated likeness onto movies, TV shows or other similar content.
But this has also resulted in privacy concerns as the app’s policy reportedly gave it “free, permanent, transferable, and re-licenseable” rights to all user-generated content.
Apart from worrying that their personal information can be disclosed, users are also concerned that the app, through facial recognition technology, can compromise their online payment accounts.
On Sunday, the app issued a statement promising to modify its privacy policy. It also assured users that the app will not result in any compromise to their payment accounts. The app has since changed its terms to ensure that it will not use headshots or videos uploaded by users other than to improve the app. It also promised to remove from its servers any content that was uploaded but subsequently deleted by users.
Zao is owned by Momo Inc, a Tinder-like Chinese dating service that is listed on the Us Nasdaq. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology spoke to the developer of the AI face-changing app on Wednesday. The Ministry’s department of network security said it demanded the company sick to relevant laws regarding the collection of personal information. Apart from calling on the company to standardize its terms of agreement it also made it clear that the company should do its utmost to ensure the protection of user data.

22、Rising through Stages to Realize Ourselves
Many modern people have the problem that they don’t know who they are and what their purpose is. 【1】 Once high school seniors graduate, they seem to lose their identity. They once studied hard, but after they stop working, they begin to lose their way.
In the theory of the Hierarchy of Needs, Abraham Maslow put forward a similar situation, which consists of the five levels of a person’s need. The fifth and final level is self- realization, which is where our final achievement lies. 【2】
I think self-realization has three major aspects. The first stage is acceptance, the second stage is discovery and the last stage is perseverance.
Acceptance is the first stage. We should be reminded that we are all born unique, so we all have our own strengths and weaknesses. 【3】 Being objective and yet tolerant is the key to acceptance.
Once we’ve accepted ourselves, we can discover what we are interested in and what we want to be. Many people tend to go along with social expectations. 【4】 So before we start working towards a purpose, we should ask ourselves “Is this what we truly desire?” and “Is this going to change the situation we’re in?”
The last stage is perseverance. 【5】 Those who can self-realize are people who focus on the things they want to change.
Through the three stages, we could gain recognition of ourselves. And by this point, whatever our lives were like, we would be able to stand tall, confident of ourselves.
A.It’s nothing to a man of perseverance.
B.But indeed we should live for ourselves.
C.Only by acceptance of the past can we change it.
D.This is especially common among college students.
E.It is the process of knowing ourselves and finding a purpose.
F.Exploring our potential isn’t going to be done in a short time.
G.Only when we understand these can we pursue them or change them.
23、The proposal for a new Indonesian capital city has been on the cards ever since the country gained independence from the Dutch in 1945. The political and economic crises which followed have long delayed the plan, but current president, Joko Widodo, now appears determined to make the move a reality. The government officially confirmed that the capital will be moved from Jakarta to a new location within Kalimantan, part of the island of Borneo in Indonesia.
A number of factors are likely to have influenced the decision to forge (艰苦做成) ahead with the move, but it seems likely that Jakarta’s environmental problems are chief among them. Built on swampy (沼泽的) ground, Jakarta is sinking, in some parts at a rate of 20cm a year. Experts predict that most of northern Jakarta could sink beneath the sea by 2050. What’s more, Jakarta is rarely mentioned without reference to its extreme levels of traffic jams and air pollution. There could be other reasons too. John McCarthy, an expert on land use in Kalimantan at the Australian National University Crawford School points to a potential desire to spread wealth throughout Indonesia. “Jakarta is the most highly developed core of Indonesia which sucks all the money and opportunities from other areas,” he says. “I think there’s logic in splitting the economic and political capital.”
But the location of this new political center is proving controversial. Some environmental groups are concerned that the chosen location in East Kalimantan will increase logging and destruction of nearby forests, home to orangutans and other endangered species. Indonesia’s planning minister previously told reporters that the new capital will be a sustainable “forest city” that won’t result in the destruction of protected forest, but how exactly this would work has not yet been explained.
Despite these challenges, the government is now putting its plan in motion. But even if this new capital is built, Jakarta will still need protection. Home to ten million people, the city simply can’t be neglected.
【1】What is the Indonesian government’s new plan?
A.Building a forest city.
B.Electing a new president.
C.Relocating the capital city.
D.Developing resources of Borneo.
【2】What may be the main reason for the government’s decision?
A.To reduce land pollution.
B.To make full use of swampy ground.
C.To seek better living environment.
D.To balance the economic growth between cities.
【3】What worries some people about the government’s choice?
A.It may cost a lot of money.
B.It may destroy the local ecosystem.
C.It may disrupt many residents’ normal life.
D.It may lead the decline of the old capital city.
【4】What is the suitable title for the passage?
A.Move to new.
B.City built on swamp.
C.Protect the Forest City.
D.Abandon the home.
24、Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is America’s fifth largest city. Once a major American colonial city, it is the home of America’s first library, its first hospital, and its first zoo. Now it is also the first US city to be named a World Heritage City. On November 6, 2015, Philadelphia joined more than 260 other cities that have been recognized for their influence on the world. These cities include Paris, France, Florence, Italy, and Cairo, Egypt.
“Today marks the start of a new and exciting chapter in the history of Philadelphia,” remarked Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter when the announcement was made. “As a World Heritage City, Philadelphia is being officially recognized on the global stage for its wealth of contributions to the world.
To be named a World Heritage City, a city must be home to a UNESCO World Heritage site. UNESCO World Heritage sites are selected for their universal value and significance. For Philadelphia, the site is Independence Hall.
Independence Hall is where two of the most important documents in US history—the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution—were adopted. The Declaration of Independence, approved on July 4, 1776, united the 13 former British colonies and declared them independent from British rule. The US Constitution, signed in 1787, established the American democratic system of government. A democracy is a system of government in which the people elect their leaders. The Constitution later spelled out the basic freedoms American citizens have.
Philadelphia Deputy Mayor Alan Greenberger says the city’s selection as a World Heritage City also reflects its educational, cultural, and economic achievements. The city is home to dozens of colleges and universities, and many museums, such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art. “Philadelphia has rightfully earned its place as one of the greatest cities in the world.” Greenberger says.

A. is known for many America’s firsts

【2】In Paragraph 2, Michael Nutter is talking about ________.
A. the World Heritage City
B. the significance of the city’s selection
