二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Speaking from my past experience, it is very difficult to find good friends that you can trust but once you have found them, they are worth keeping forever! Therefore, I think friendship is the most important relationship that anybody could have.

The qualities I look for in a friend are a good sense of humor but sensitivity when it matters. Also that friend would have to be strong-minded and highly spirited. I think that these qualities are the key qualities to look for in a good friend.

Even the strongest friends can still have arguments, although usually about more serious topics, rather than the usual teenage childish arguments. Some matters can seriously affect a friendship. If one of your friends started experimenting with harmful and dangerous drugs, what would you do ? A good friend would try to help as much as possible, whereas a bad example of a friend would simply shrug(耸肩) and turn a blind eye.

Not only the bad things affect friendship ---- good activities do too. Such as bonding with one another, not just by going out on a night with them but by spending quality time with them and talking to each other, which indicates a good ability to communicate. This is a key aspect of a good friendship.

Good friends do not always have to be in the same age group as you. I have a good friend and she is 47 years old and I am 16.

Unfortunately, some people lose contact with their friends as they grow older, which is a sad way to lose a good friend.

I think friendship is one of the most important things in life because if you have no friends you will have no happiness.

【1】According to the author, true friendship _______.

    A. is easy to get

    A. why drugs are bad for teenagers

    B. problems that will test friendship

    C. ways that help avoid arguments

    D. whether a friend is trustworthy

【3】According to the author, which matters least in friendship?

    A. Age.     B. Sensitivity.

    C. Sense of humor. D. Communication ability.

【4】Which of the following saying can match the author’s view on friendship?

    A. Old friends and old wines are best.

    B. A friend without faults will never be found.

    C. A life without a friend is a life without the sun.

    D. a friend to everybody is a friend to nobody.

  • 22、   Even if you haven't achieved success yet, staying positive will guide and push you to put in more efforts to reach your goals next time.

The very first benefit of positive thinking is that it can bring great relief from stress. By handling situations with a positive approach, you will be sidelining(使靠边 )negative thoughts, there by decreasing stress, worries, and disappointment to a great extent. 1

No matter how much confidence you have in your performance and how realistic your expectations are, lack of positive thinking can hold you back from achieving success in whatever you are doing. In this respect, we should learn from those successful people.2That is probably why they can achieve what they want. So add in some positive opinions and see how much more success and happiness you may enjoy.

Positive thinking is also helpful in deepening relationships. It is because that people love positive people. 3 Thus, staying positive can make you build deeper and closer relationships with others. Try to transform your negative thoughts and emotions into positive views for a new relationship and a better life.

4By adopting positive thinking in your life, you will be gaining peace, laughter, good health, and financial success. 5Therefore, surround yourself with positive emotions for a happy today and tomorrow.

A.As a result, you will be leading a stress-free life.

B.It is easier and healthier to get along with them.

D.To keep away from anxiety, we should start thinking positively.

E.Nearly all great leaders are found to be extremely positive thinkers.

F.If you hold positive attitude and have positive thinking, nothing is impossible.

G.Most importantly, positive thinking guides you to a happy and satisfying life.

  • 23、Remember your first day of school? How nervous did you feel when entering the class room? Or what about the first time you rode a bike with all of the excitement coursing through your body? 【1】 These are known as episodic (片段) memories.

A new study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences has shown that certain cells called time cells, make this type of memory possible. 【2】 As memories are being formed, these time cells put a stamp on the memories. Later, this stamp helps us recount the exact sequence of events and experiences.

The 27 participants in the study had electrodes (电极) placed in their brains, which allowed scientists to measure cell activity in the hippocampus (海马体) and another area involved in the perception of time. 【3】 Then they were asked to recall the words. During this time, the scientists looked at the activity of different brain cells. They found specific cells that fired signals during each sequence of words.

Gyorgy Buzsaki, a professor at New York University, said the study is important, as it can explain memory problems found in people who suffered damage to their hippocampus. In one experiment, scientists compared the memories of people who had just taken a tour of a college campus. 【4】 However, those who had suffered damage to this area of the brain were unable to recall the proper sequence of events.

【5】 As of September 2019 , around 50 million people worldwide were suffering from dementia (痴呆) and the number will triple by 2050 , according to the World Health Organization. Such studies will help scientists develop better therapeutic interventions (医疗干预) for people suffering from Alzheimer's disease, the cause of 60 to 70 percent of dementia cases.

A.These cells help us form clear memories in a time order.

B.With these cells, we will be suffering from blurry memories.

C.Those without damage to their hippocampus had similar stories.

D.The number of people suffering from memory disorders is increasing.

E.Some memories stick with us and we can recall them like scenes in a movie.

F.The treatment of diseases like dementia (痴呆) has make a breakthrough recently.

G.They were shown sequences of 12 to 15 words on a computer screen in a period of about 30 seconds.

  • 24、This painting Spring Bouquet has a precise structure. The flowers spill over into the lower left-hand corner, with an imbalance as free and as wild as nature. But at once the artist responds to this unbalance. To the right of the vase, Renoir has developed a heavy shadow area, rich in purples and sharply contrasted with the light below it. The placing of the straight line in the lower right side is necessary. If the reader covers this line, he will see that the composition becomes unbalanced.

The Impressionist technique had not yet developed when Renoir painted this picture. Yet the painting with light and color indicates Impressionism is around the corner; there is something of that school in the feeling of the out-of-doors that Renoir has acquired. The texture (纹理) of the flowers is described. Above all, one can’t help saying the very nice smell of the flowers is there, too.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir was born in 1841. He began working as a young painter of porcelain and textiles. At age 21, Renoir entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and went on to study under the instructions of painter Charles Gleyre’s. Even though his paintings had been initially rejected by the Academy and the public, with time he became one of the most admired artists of his generation.

Unfortunately, in 1899, he was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (风湿性关节炎). It is a disease that causes a lot of pain. In addition, the person affected by it may also have deformities (畸形). Consequently, his movements became very limited and each movement was a big and certainly painful effort.

His son, Jean Renoir, writes in the book Renoir, My Father after his father passed away, the reaction of the people to the painting of the father, after seeing his hands:

Visitors who were unprepared for this could not take their eyes off his deformity. Though they did not dare to mention it, their reaction would be expressed by some such phrase as It isnt possible!” With hands like that, how can he paint those pictures? There’s some mystery somewhere.

【1】What can readers see in the painting?

A.A vase in the left corner.

B.A shadow to the vase’s right.

C.A straight line at the bottom.

D.A natural light in the middle.

【2】What seems quite special about this picture when people appreciate it?

    A.The painting material.

    B.The color choice.

    C.The smelly flower taste.

    D.The impressive feeling.

【3】What does the underlined word “this” in the last paragraph refer to?

    A.Renoir, My Father.

    B.Spring Bouquet.

    C.Rheumatoid arthritis.

    D.Renoir’s bravery.

【4】Which can be a suitable title for the text?

    A.Patience Is a Lifetime Practice

    B.Pain Passes, but Beauty Remains

    C.Impressionism Is a Unique Technique

D.Work hard, and You Will Catch Up

  • 25、   Although it is difficult to make direct year-to-year comparisons because of increase in viewing on digital devices, the trend over the past decade is clear in numerous studies, including the Nielsen ratings. The average age of those who watch nationally televised Major League Baseball games has been _____ these years. Asked in a survey whether they _____ baseball, nearly two-thirds of those ages 18 to 36 said no.

Michael Haupert, a professor of economics at the University of Wisconsin ----la Crosse who studies baseball as a business, explains why many young people might be _____ by what to an older and more knowledgeable fan is one of the most exciting experiences in sports: a no-hitter. ” Failure is more ______ than success,” he says. ”If my students get a third of the answers right on their test, they fail. However, if a ballplayer gets a hit a third of the time, he’s often one of the _____ .” But watch an NBA game for 15 seconds, and you will likely see one team score.

It is not surprising that ______ the length of games----about three hours in recent years-----and increasing the pace of action has become a subject of discussion among those who love baseball. MLB commissioner Rob Manfred is strongly ______ of both. For the 2018 season, the league issued a set of new rules designed to do just that. Mound visits are limited. A timer countdown is designed to shorten the break between innings().

No one knows if any of these changes will significantly shorten games. According to MLB, the average length of a nine-inning outing this season has been three hours---about five minutes shorter than the 2017 average, itself the longest mean on record.

All of those proposed changes seem to ______ the point. I interviewed at least 100 semi-fans in their late teens and early 20s for my recent book. All considered themselves fans to some degree, though they ______  watched more than snatches—on iPads or smartphones. They told me it made no difference whether a game lasted two or three hours: they would not pay attention for _____ amount of time.

The historic May 14 Supreme Court decision allowing all states to legalize sports betting could have an impact on all this. More people will soon be able to gamble on sports while watching a game on their couch. But whether ______ gambling will attract more young people to baseball is a huge unknown. Many already gamble, both legally and illegally, on fantasy sports, but legalization will provide yet another ______ during games in real time. Will some states allow betting reports in broadcasts? Will it make the young more likely to bet on baseball than on other sports? Stay tuned.

I don’t know what will hook young people on baseball. But abandoning the game’s unique selling proposition---the timelessness that provides both suspense and great conversationhe educated fan -----is not the ______ . Baseball, Clark told me, is like a game of chess---and too many ______ - changes might turn it into something “more similar to a game of checkers.” Baseball may survive in spite of its challenges, precisely because it stands out and stands up against the short ______ spans that negatively affect every aspect of our culture, including politics and education. As Casey Stengel is reported to have said,” Never make predictions, especially about the future. ”

  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

My sister Josie and I wanted a dog more than anything else. We begged our parents many times but always got the same answer. One summer night, however, in our yard stood a big black female dog. We couldn’t believe our eyes!

Josie made a little kissing noise and held out her hand. The dog came to us slowly, taking a few steps forward, then a step back. She was so skinny and her coat was full of dirt. When she came closer, I was glad to find no tags around her neck.

Josie brought milk and several eggs for her. But when she finished them, she ran into the bush and disappeared. “Don’t go!” Josie cried, “Come back!” But she was gone. “I think she’ll be back when she gets hungry again,” I said.

The next night, we set the food in the driveway. Soon the dog appeared. We called her Lucky, hugged her gently and showed her the food. She sniffed it, drooling (垂涎) and licking her mouth, but for some reason she wouldn’t eat it.

The next minute Lucky did something unexpected. She grabbed the plate in her mouth and dragged it away. In the following nights it was the same scene. But the strangest thing was that even though Lucky kept taking the food, she didn’t seem to be putting on any weight.

On the fifth night, Lucky didn’t come as usual. We were worried. When we almost gave up, she appeared. She barked at us and ran back and forth. Then she ran towards the bush slowly, still barking. We chased after her. She ran and barked, turning to see if we were following. After about ten minutes, Lucky finally stopped, wagging her tail quietly. She looked at us, barked and disappeared through a dark hole in the wall of leaves and branches. I pointed toward the hole. “No way I’m going in there,” Josie said.
