二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   For the last ten years, we’ve worked one-on-one with kids from elementary school through graduate school. No matter their age, no matter the material, when you ask what they’re struggling with, kids almost universally name a subject: math, English or, in some instances, school. Doubting that all of school is the issue, we then ask to see their last test. After some complaints, the student digs down, deep into the dark of his or her backpack, and pulls out a piece of dirty paper that, once smoothed out, turns out to be the latest exam.

To a teacher, this should be incredibly frustrating. You spend a huge part of your life grading tests, commenting on essays, and providing thoughtful feedback on homework assignments, only to have the, compressed and ignored. Yes, kids look at their tests, but you shouldn’t harbor any illusion that they look at anything but the red letter grade. Before writing kids off for being ungrateful or lazy, you need to understand why what they’re doing makes perfect sense.

Telling kids they need to take advantage of the feedback they get isn’t just good advice - it’s established science. In the last few decades, researchers have discovered a lot about how people become experts. The main idea, made popular by everyone, is the 10,000-hour rule. Ten thousand is the number of hours it takes to become an expert in almost any field.

So why don’t kinds view their mistakes as a valuable asset(财富)? Well, kids don’t think about their mistakes rationally(理性地) - they think about them emotionally. Mistakes make kids feel stupid. “Stupid” is just that: a feeling. Specifically, it’s the feeling of shame, and our natural response is to avoid its source. If we get a bad grade, we hide the test away. Unsurprisingly, that’s the worst move to make if you ever want to get better. Academic success does not come from how smart or motivated kids are. It comes from how they feel about their mistakes.

1The passage suggests that learning to face mistakes and take advantage of them is ______.

A.a great difficult thing to both kids and adults

B.of great importance to the growth of kids

C.a common practice that scientists always neglect in their work

D.the best way for language experts to be excellent in their fields

2According to the passage, the best way for kids to deal with their mistakes is by _______.

A.doing whatever they like to do without taking their mistakes seriously

B.ignoring their mistakes and holding on their own opinions

C.seeking advice and feedback from teachers, experts and scientists

D.being brave to their mistakes without considering them as a shame

3Which of the following does the writer think kids should not do when making mistakes?

A.Learn from their mistakes B.Listen to the teachers’ advice

C.Regard themselves as stupid D.Think about their mistakes rationally

4According to the writer, teachers in school should ______.

A.point out kids’ mistake whenever found

B.help kids overcome the feelings about making mistakes

    C.give kids more book knowledge

    D.always correct kids’ mistake

  • 27、Are you having difficulty falling asleep? Try drinking a glass of warm milk. If that doesn’t work, listen to some soft, beautiful music. Still no luck? Try think about sheep jumping over a fence. If you are still awake, take a sleeping pill. People who take pills often become dependent on the drugs. So you lie awake knowing that the new workday will soon arrive. If you have been in such condition for at least one month, you may have primary insomnia(失眠症).

A new study has found that you might fall asleep more quickly and stay asleep longer if you try “cerebral hypothermia.” It is not a complex medical process. It just means cooling down your brain. Eric Nofzinger and Naniel Buysse from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School led the study. They examined twelve people who had sleeping problems. Twelve others had no sleeping problems. Each of them wore a soft plastic cap on their head at bedtime.

The caps had tubes inside filled with water. The researchers moved the water through the tubes and then changed the temperature of the water. Other studies showed that people who had sleeping problems often had more chemical reactions in the front of their brain. The researchers thought cooling down the brain might help.

On the first two nights of testing, the patients wore caps with no water. On the next two nights, the caps were worn, but the water was not cooled. Then the researchers cooled the water a little for another two nights. On the final two nights of the study, the temperature of the water was made much cooler. The researchers found that the water caps didn’ t help the patients until the temperature was about 14℃. Most of the patients fell asleep faster and slept better when the coolest water was moving around their head.

Dr Nfzinger and Dr. Buysse noted that this was only the beginning of the brain temperature study. But they believed they had discovered something important that needed more research.

  • 29、Children under five must spend less time sitting watching screens or staying in prams, get better quality sleep and have more time for active play if they are to grow up healthy, according to new guidelines issued by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The new guidelines on physical activity, sedentary (久坐的) behaviour and sleep for children under 5 years of age were developed by a WHO panel of experts. They assessed the effects of inadequate (不足的) sleep on young children, and time spent sitting watching screens or restrained (被限制) in chairs and prams. They also reviewed evidence around the benefits of increased activity levels.

Failure to meet current physical activity recommendations is responsible for more than 5 million deaths globally each year across all age groups. Currently, over 23% of adults and 80% of adolescents are not sufficiently physically active. If healthy physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep habits are established early in life, this helps shape habits through childhood, adolescence and into adulthood.

“What we really need to do is bring back play for children,” says Dr Juana Willumsen, who focuses on childhood obesity and physical activity. “This is about making the shift from sedentary time to playtime, while protecting sleep.”

The pattern of overall 24-hour activity is key: replacing sedentary screen time with more active play, while making sure young children get enough good-quality sleep. Quality time spent in interactive non-screen-based activities with a caregiver, such as reading, storytelling, singing and puzzles, is very important for child development.

The important interactions between physical activity, sedentary hehaviour and adequate sleep time, and their impact on physical and mental health and well-being, were fully recognized, which called for clear guidance on physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep in young children.

Applying the recommendations in these guidelines during the first five years of life will contribute to children’s motor and cognitive development and lifelong health.

【1】What’s the purpose of the WHO issuing new guidelines?

A.To help parents take better care of children.

B.To make sure children grow up healthy.

C.To reduce children’s time spent on TV.

    D.To keep children physically active.

【2】What does Dr Juana Willumsen intend to tell us?

A.Children need more time to play and sleep.

B.Sitting too much leads to children’s poor health.

C.It is important for children to have healthy food.

D.Parents should play with their children more often.

【3】Which activity may be beneficial to children’s development according to the text?

    A.Reading on their own.

    B.Watching educational TV programs.

    C.Searching for puzzles online.

    D.Joining the singing club.

【4】Which can be the best title for the text?

A.The World Health Organization has issued new guidelines

B.To grow up healthy children need to sit less and play more

C.Some good habits that will lead to children’s lifelong health

D.5 million die globally each year because of unhealthy lifestyle

四、短文填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 31、Directions: Fill in each blank with a proper word chosen from the box. Each word can be used only once. Note that there is one word more than you need.

Today, the events 1 in realistic-looking or-sounding video and audio recordings need never have happened. They can instead be 2 automatically, by powerful computers and machine-learning software. The catch-all term for these computational productions is “deepfakes”.

The term first appeared on Reddit, a messaging board, as the username for an account which was producing 3 videos. An entire community 4 up around the creation of these videos, writing software tools that let anyone automatically 5 one person’s face onto the body of another. Reddit shut the community down, but the technology was out there. Soon it was being applied to political 6 and actors.

Tools for editing media 7 have existed for decades—think Photoshop. The power and peril of deepfakes is that they make fakery cheaper than ever before. Before deepfakes, a powerful computer and a good chunk of a university degree were needed to produce a realistic fake video of someone. Now some photos and an Internet connection are all that is required.

The consequences of cheap, widespread fakery are likely to be 8, albeit slow to unfold. Plenty worry about the possible impact that believable, fake footage of politicians might have on civil society—from a further loss of trust in media to the 9 for electoral distortions. These technologies could also be deployed against softer targets: it might be used, for instance, to bully classmates by creating imagery of them in embarrassing situations. In a world that was already saturated with 10 imagery, deepfakes make it plausible to push that even further.
