26、In most places a traffic signal in the middle of the desert, especially one for camels, may well be a mirage, but in this case it is all too real. At the Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring Scenic Spot in Gansu Province, northwest China, the world’s first traffic light for camels was set up to manage traffic in the popular tourist area.
According to a Chinese state-owned wire service, the problem was that the walking paths for human beings often crossed camel paths, creating traffic chaos (混乱). As a solution, workers cut a gap in the walkway and created a separate route for the camels. The traffic light now manages the flow of traffic at the new crossing.
Camel-riding tours are a big attraction for visitors to the area. But visitors to the Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring Scenic Spot will now be safe from camel crashes, thanks to the new traffic signal, which turns green to let the animals cross and red to make them stop.
The Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring Scenic Spot is already a tourist hot spot thanks to its breathtaking sand dunes (沙丘), an oasis (绿洲) and even the occasional snowstorm which create otherworldly scenery. The strange camel traffic signal could well become another attraction to enjoy on a visit to the scenic area.
The area is close to Dunhuang City on the edge of the Gobi Desert, and it used to be an essential resting point for travellers on the Silk Road. Dunhuang’s best-known tourist attraction is the Mogao Caves. The traffic signal is unlikely ever to reach the significance of the Mogao Caves, but at least it might help prevent a few camel traffic jams.
【1】What does the underlined word “mirage” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.Reality.
B.Fantasy.
C.Scenery.
D.Mistake.

A.To solve the traffic chaos.
B.To have camels go through.
C.To attract visitors to the area.
D.To protect the visitors’ safety.
【3】What can we infer about the camel traffic signal from the last 2 paragraphs?
A.It has become a tourist hot spot.
B.It has prevented camel traffic jams.
C.It could improve the tourism of the scenic area.
D.It could greatly increase the camels’ population.
【4】What is the purpose of this text?
A.To criticize the traffic jam.
B.To tell us a travel experience.
C.To introduce a camel traffic light.
D.To analyze a natural phenomenon.
27、Unusually bright light in the sky that appeared suddenly last June has got astronomers in great excitement, After months of study, they still aren’t sure what the object — university referred to as the “Cow” — is, whatever it is, says astronomer Lilian Rivera Sandoval or Texas Tech University in Lubbock, “It’s super strange and we are obsessed with its study.”
The Cow first appeared in telescope observations on 16 June 2018, in what turned out to be small galaxy about 200 million light years away. “When we saw that we thought, let’s get on this.” says Daniel Perley, an astronomer at Liverpool John Moore University.
The early observations confirmed the Caw was truly strange. It didn’t show the obvious changes in its light output that an exploding star would make. Sandoval ways as soon as she and colleagues Anew the Cow was truly distant, they requested time on NASA’s Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory to see what the Cow was doing in X-rays. Although the X-ray brightness varied over the early weeks, “the spectrum didn’t change, which is very unusual,” she notes. After 3 weeks, the X-ray signal began to vary more wildly while also dropping off in brightness.
Many astronomers agree that the long and steady duration of the event means that it was powered after an initial explosion by some form of central engine. But what that engine may be is also far from clear. Some argue that it could be a very unusual star whose central part has collapsed inward after it exploded. Others say it is a tidal disruption event — a star being torn apart by a black hole. But that usually requires the supermassive black hole in the center of a galaxy, and the Cow is situated in its galaxy’s arm. So, some say, il could be a tidal disruption event generated by an intermediate mass black hole, although evidence for the existence of such smaller black holes remains controversial. “All explanations have problems,” Sandoval says, “I hope there are more Cows.”
【1】What is astronomers’ main concern about the Cow?
A.When it appears.
B.How it forms.
C.What it is.
D.Where it is from.
【2】What can be inferred in Paragraph 3?
A.The Cow is a not typical exploding star in the galaxy.
B.The changes of X-rays brightness proved the Cow unique.
C.The Cow is not far from the Earth and easy to study.
D.The X-ray test helped find accurate features of the Cow.
【3】What do Sandoval’s words at the end of the text probably mean?
A.The research results help little.
B.More Cows will appear.
C.Extra attention should be paid to the Cow.
D.More information is needed.
【4】What is the text mainly about?
A.Astronomers conducted an interesting experiment at NASA.
B.The Cow has aroused astronomers’ passion in its research.
C.There exists a wide range of changes in the galaxies.
D.The discovery of the Cow is a great achievement.
28、It is very important for kids to be courageous. A brave child is more likely to withstand negative peer pressure, say no to temptations (诱惑) and fight the good fight. 【1】 It boosts kids’ resilience (适应力), confidence and willpower as their as well as their learning, performance and school engagement. Here are several ways to develop kids’ courage:
Set a model of courage. Kids who watch their parents stick their necks out to do the right thing are more likely to do the same. 【2】 Then express how good it feels when you conquer your fear instead of taking a shortcut. Your kids will learn how to take on the tough challenge they face by witnessing how you tackle your fears.
【3】 Research finds that kids are more likely to be courageous if they believe that their parents encourage them to support those in need. Discuss bravery with your kids: Tell them “Courage is making the choice to do what you know is right even if you are afraid.”
Ask your kids to share their acts of bravery. Learning to be brave takes practice, so encourage your children to do something courageous every day.【4】A mom I talked to had her kids share their brave deeds at dinner time.
Teach your kids how to reduce their fears. If not kept under control, fear can be powerful. 【5】 You might encourage positive self-talk, such as saying, “I can handle this” or “I have courage to do this.” Or teach your child to take slow, deep breaths to find courage.
A.Talk about values and courage.
B.Courage has other surprising benefits.
C.The good news is that courage can be taught.
D.Teach your children simple strategies to be brave.
E.Let your children see you step out of your comfort zone.
F.In today’s uncertain world, kids will need courage and confidence.

29、As one of the most popular TV dramas, The Oath of Love — a romance starring Yang Zi and Xiao Zhan — seized widespread attention online since its premiere (首映) on March 15.
Adapted from the novel of the same name, the series follows Lin Zhixiao (Yang), a third-year college student majoring in music, as she meets Gu Wei (Xiao), a promising young doctor. After experiencing a string of coincidences, Lin discovers Gu is the attending physician for her father, who has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. In the days spent helping her father fight the disease, Lin develops romantic feelings for Gu.
“Without emphasizing dramatic conflicts, the series makes the romantic relationship between Lin and Gu more dedicate and real,” the China Women’s News noted. Lin admires Gu for his serious attitudes toward his work and his kindness to patients, while Gu appreciates Lin’s perseverance in the face of setbacks as she tries to achieve her music dream. Maybe it is this mutual understanding and appreciation that makes the love so impressive to viewers.
According to the producers, the series examines the confusion and stress felt by young people in modern society. It also deals with a typical Chinese parenting style, which is criticized as overly tough and strict. For example, Lin’s father, a demanding high-school teacher, always interferes (干涉) with Lin’s future career plan. He tries to persuade Lin to do what he thinks is best for her. Meanwhile, Gu’s parents tend to intervene in his choices concerning love and marriage.
By showing the relationships of the two families, the TV series also wants to present the gap between old and young generations through their different values and outlooks. This is why the drama resonates (产生共鸣) with young audiences as depicting their pressures and longings in the story.
