  • 27、   Do you need to "edit your friends"? Is your mobile phone directory full of phone numbers of people you don't really want to talk to? Do you go out with people from work or school more often than with your real friends? Do you say yes to invitations because you think you should, not because you want to? If you answered yes to at least two of these questions, then perhaps you need to "edit your friends".

Nowadays people like to spend a lot of time with people at work or classmates at school. The result is that we don't have enough time to see our real, close friends. As our lives get busier, it becomes more important to spend the little free time we have with people we really want to see, people we love and who really love us.

Who are the friends you need to edit? A few years ago I read a book about how to get rid of unnecessary possessions (物品). It said you should ask yourself about each thing you have: Is it useful? Do I really like it? Do I feel better every time I look at it? If the answer is no to any one of those questions, you should throw it away. Maybe we should ask similar questions about our friends.

What kind of friends will you probably need to edit? Sometimes it's an old friend. Somebody who you used to have a lot in common with, but who, when you meet now, you have very little or nothing to say to. Or it might be a new friend who you get on quite well with, but who is taking up too much of your time. Next time one of these people calls you and suggests a meeting, think "Do I really want to see this person?", and if the answer is no, say no, and make an excuse. That way you'll have more time to spend with your real friends.

【1】People need to edit their friends when_______.

A.they have moved to a different area

B.they have no time with their real friends

C.some of their friends don't talk very much

D.their friends are people from work or school

【2】People don't need to edit their_________.

    A.real friends.

    B.young friends

    C.old friends.

    D.new friends

【3】What does the writer want to tell us in Paragraph 3?

A.We should often throw some possessions.

B.Most of our friends are not necessary at all.

C.We shouldn't treat our friends as possessions.

D.We should ask ourselves who our real friends are.

  • 28、The days of stopping at one store and buying everything in one location are long gone. We’ve put together a list of items you shouldn’t buy at the grocery store and we show you where to get them.

    Tuna

Essentially a product from Chicken of the Sea, 5ounce cans of Van Camp’s Chunk White Albacore Tuna in Water are available for $1 per can at Dollar Tree. A similar product in the grocery store costs 59 cents more per can.

    Olive Oil

Is it really worth buying expensive olive oil?We don’t think so. This 68ounce Iberia Premium Blend Extra Virgin Olive Oil sells at Target for $9.69. Reviewers love this lessexpensive alternative saying it’s great for everything. Compare it with a standard 17ounce size of Bertolli Extra Virgin Olive Oil — much less oil, selling for roughly the same $9.99 when it’s not on sale.

    Vitamins

You might not realize the money you can reap on vitamins simply by buying them at a different store. A 100count bottle of vitamin D softgels can run to $11.29 at Walmart. A 180count bottle of Trader Joe’s vitamin D 1000 iu softgels is only $11.99. That’s almost double the amount.

    Storage Containers

For storing food, children’s supplies, or whatever your household needs may be, there’s nothing better than plastic storage containers. But why pay through the nose for them?Albertsons has two half cup Rubbermaid EasyFind Lids food storage containers at $ 6.89. But you can buy six of those from Target for $7.99—four more for about a dollar.

    Socks

Dollar Tree has a good selection of men’s, women’s, and children’s socks. Women’s minicrew socks come in a threecount pack for $1. A threecount of similar socks at Albertson’s will cost $ 6.59 and there are not many kinds.

【1】How much does a can of similar Tuna in the grocery store probably cost?

    A.$0.95.

    B.$1.

    C.$1.59.

    D.$0.41.

【2】You can get a better deal on ________ at Trade Joe’s.

    A.vitamins

    B.olive oil

    C.storage containers

    D.socks

【3】Who might be the target readers of the passage?

    A.Reviewers.

    B.Housewives.

    C.Store owners.

    D.Health experts.

  • 29、 Bottled water has become the choice for people who are healthy and thirsty. Bottled water is all over the world. But some say the planet’s health, and people’s health may be suffering from it.

The idea that bottled water is safer for humans may not be true. The Natural Resources Defense Council of America said, There is no promise that because water comes out of a bottle, it is cleaner or safer than water from the tap.” Another New York City-based action group added that some bottled water is “really just tap water in a bottle—sometimes more clean, sometimes not.”

It is not proven that bottled water is better than tap water. Nick Reeves from the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management said, The high mineral content(含量) of some bottled water makes them not good for feeding babies and young children.” Also, most bottled water doesn’t have fluoride(氟化物), which can make teeth stronger. Kids are drinking more bottled water and less fluoridated tap water, and some say that’s behind the recent rise in bad teeth.

Storing is another problem. Placed near heat, the plastic bottles can produce bad chemicals(化学物质) into the water.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, some 2.7 million tons of plastic are used worldwide to bottle water each year. The plastic can take between 400 and 1,000 years to break down.

In terms of energy use, plastic bottles are also not cheap. One report said that if water and soft drink bottlers had used 10 percent recycled materials in their plastic bottles, they would have saved about 72 million gallons of gas.

So, if you are worried about the effect of bottled water on the Earth, you can take the following steps.

Drink from your tap. Unless your government warns against this, it should be fine.

Get a container(容器). Carry your tap water in a steel or a lined drinking container, and clean it between uses.

Keep it cool. Don’t drink from a bottle that has been sitting in the sun, don’t store it near chemicals, and don’t reuse plastic bottles.

Choose glass containers over plastic if possible. When finished, recycle!

【1】What is the main idea of the article?

    A. Drinking tap water is the only choice for people.

    B. Glass containers are better than plastic bottles.

    C. Plastic bottles are harmful to the environment.

    D. Bottled water may not be as good as we think.

2What can we learn about plastic bottles from the article?

    A. They break down in less than 300 years.

    B. They can be used for many other things.

    C. They are a risk to the environment.

    D. They are cheap to make.

3According to the article, we can know that bottled water is ______.

    A. no problem for the environment

    B. more expensive than tap water

    C. always safer than tap water

    D. better for babies

4Which of the following about tap water is NOT mentioned in the article?

    A. There are a lot of problems storing tap water.

    B. Bottled water can be just tap water in a bottle.

    C. It may be better for your teeth.

    D. It may contain fluoride.
