二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、A “secretive” new species of frog has been discovered on the forest floor in India’s Western Ghat mountain range. Named the starry dwarf frog after the markings on its dark brown back, it is just 2 centimeters long.

The frog, whose closest relatives are a group of species native to India and Sri Linka, is the only member of an ancient lineage (血统) dating back to millions of years ago, according to researchers from India and the US. It is unclear whether the species is descended (传下来) from African or Asian frogs.

A group of Indian and US researchers first came across the local species hidden in leaf-litter as part of a wider project to look for new frogs, lizards and snakes in the richly biodiverse region and stored it in a jar for later study. Genetic testing and a closer look at its shape, colouring and other features have shown that it doesn’t match any existing species. Kartik Shanker of the Indian Institute of Science, who helped design the study, says while it is common to find new frog in India, this one needs to be noticed. “This particular species not just is a new species, but also belongs to a new genus (属), and that makes it a little more special,” says Shanker.

The number of known species of frog identified in India has climbed from around 200 to above 400 over the past two decades. While many species new to science are frequently sorted as endangered at once, it is too early to say whether the starry dwarf frog is threatened. “They are very secretive,” says Shanker, adding that the team didn’t know the size of its population. The frog is active at night and lives near water.

Habitat loss is a serious risk to frogs in tropical forests around the world, alongside threats such as a deadly fungus (真菌) that has been killing off amphibians (两栖动物) for the past four decades. But the new species was found in a reserved forest, meaning it will enjoy a degree of protection by Indian government agencies.

【1】What can we learn from paragraph 3?

A.The species was discovered by tourists.

B.The species was found in a rich region.

    C.The species was further studied.

D.The species was finally set free.

【2】What can we say about the new frog?

    A.It is in small quantities.

    B.It is an endangered species.

    C.It is well worth attention.

D.It is related to African frogs.

【3】What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

A.Habitat loss is the chief threat to frogs.

B.The new species may face less dangers.

C.Tropical forests in India are all under protection.

D.The Indian government determines to save frogs.

【4】Where is this text probably taken from?

    A.A pet guide.

    B.A social website.

    C.A travel journal.

    D.A science report.

  • 27、What do ten dollars, a garden, and Elon-Musk’s brother have in common? They’re used to fight against food insecurity (不安全) and build the world’s only biggest gardener community. Launched on the autumn equinox (秋分), the Million Gardens Movement (MGM) is a charitable and educational plan that hopes to put a garden in every family.

Kimbal Musk, Elon Musk’s brother and the Executive Director of the non-profit Big Green, hoped that the MGM puts Little Green Garden units in homes and classrooms for just $10. He explains that each garden has its special growing plan and online lessons and activities to support the growth of culture-related vegetable gardens at home.

The MGM platform is simple as a whole. If you’re a gardener, sign up to join the community. Donate $10 to a family that can’t afford a garden, or that lives in a food desert, read and contribute to the blog and then tell other gardeners about it.

“Ten years ago, I co-founded Big Green focusing on under-resourced communities to increase access to fresh food,” says Musk. “Today it’s a national non-profit organization working with schools in several major cities with almost 640 outdoor leaning garden classrooms. The Million Gardens Movement is put forward to make it simple for anyone to give a family a garden. Planting a seed is an act of hope for a brighter tomorrow. We hope millions of people will join us to grow their own gardens and give a garden to a family.”

They’ve been able to deliver garden kits to Denver, Detroit, Memphis and Indianapolis so far. “We hope to expand to Canada this year with sights on Vancouver and Toronto,” adds Musk. “We also hope to expand to Mexico and beyond to make this a worldwide movement to encourage millions of people to grow their own food.”

  • 28、An Indian movie about two sisters has become a huge hit in China. The Hindi language film, called Dangal, has earned almost $170 million in China since its release there on May 5.

Much has been written about why Dangal has enjoyed such big success in China. Some people say one reason is that the film’s star and producer, Aamir Khan. He is famous in India's Bollywood film industry. Two of his earlier films were also big hits in China.

Khan's popularity was clear after he got more than 600,000 followers on the Chinese social media service Sina Weibo within two months of joining. But he is not the only reason that the film strongly connects with audience across China. Media has pointed out how it shows similarities between parental systems in China and India.

Dangal is based on the true story of a man who enjoyed the sport of wrestling(摔跤). He competed as a wrestler, but never could achieve his lifelong dream: winning a gold medal. As a father, he wanted his son to win the medal. But his wife only gives birth to daughters. So he finally decides to train them to be world-class wrestlers.

The movie is more serious than most Bollywood productions, which tell happy love stories and include colorful music and dance performances.

Edward Chan is a professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He says the strict way of parenting in the film is something people in China can easily relate to. "I think the father role described by the movie in India is quite to the culture, especially the traditional culture in China."

The Chinese government supported Global Times newspaper pointed that movie critics (评论家) in China did not like Dangal. Most of them agree with the fact that the father in the film was forceful in pushing his daughters to become wrestlers. • 29、Jeffrey Hall, a teacher of Communications from the University of Kansas (KU) , has used his research to define the exact amount of time necessary to make friends with someone. He's also found how long it will take to deepen a relationship. His new study found that it takes around 50 hours of time together to go from being someone's acquaintance to casual friend. It takes about 90 hours to go from being casual friends to friends, and more than 200 hours before considering someone a close friend or best friend.

But it isn't spending just any kind of time together that deepens a friendship—hours spent working together, for example, don't count as much as hours spent getting to know someone by hanging out, joking around, playing video games, and doing more playful activities. The study explains that these kinds of activities help us to form a deeper connection with someone. “We have to put that time in,” Hall said. “You can't make friends without any effort.”

The results of the study come from analysis of 355 responses to an online survey from adults who said they had moved in the last six months and were looking for new friends in their new environment. Survey participants were asked about new relationships as well as hours spent together and activities they did. They were then asked to rate their resulting relationships according to one of four stages: acquaintance, casual friend, friend and close friend.

The main conclusion that Hall came to is that making close friends takes serious effort. So if you want to have some best friends, you have to know that spending time with someone is the most important thing.

【1】How long does it take to turn an acquaintance into a friend?

    A.About 50 hours.

    B.About 90 hours.

    C.About 140 hours.

    D.About 200 hours.

【2】What does the underlined part “that time” in Paragraph 2 refer to?

    A.Time spent working together.

    B.Time spent finding new friends.

C.Time spent helping a new friend.

D.Time spent doing fun things together.

【3】Which may help deepen a friendship according to the study?

A.Trying to understand your friend's feelings.

B.Enjoying quality time with your friend.

C.Treating a new friend like a close one.

    D.Being generous to your friend.

【4】What is the main purpose of the text?

    A.To solve a relationship problem.

B.To introduce a teacher from KU.

C.To present the findings of a new study.

D.To discuss the importance of friendship.
